... in her lesson to Congresspeople on how to do Twitter.
Oh! Was that failing to talk like the generic "older woman" while being the specific older woman I readily admit I am?
Goodness gracious! I ought to withdraw from the fray and make toast and tea.
To be fair to AOC, she also said, "Don’t try to be anybody who you’re not" and "The top tip, I think, is really to be yourself and to really write your own tweets so that people know it’s you talking."
I agree with that advice, but I observe that it can only be followed by people who have a real self that anyone wants to hear talking.
And by the way, the proposition extends beyond social media. It applies to in-person talking — interviews and rallies. I want to feel that the words come from the brain of the person I'm seeing talking. It's something we expect from people we know in our ordinary life, and we have a well-tuned sense of who's being genuine and who's a phony. That's why we hate politicians instinctively.

Yeah, “older” women are going to appreciate the advice. Like telling an overweight women that she really should eat less. What a stooge.
"That's why we hate politicians instinctively."
And why we instinctively love Trump.
"And why we instinctively love Trump."
That's why we accept the misspellings and not-quite-accurate statements — they feel like a direct connection to the brain. Others are more defended.
"if you're an older woman, talk like an older woman talks"
"Don’t try to be anybody who you’re not"
"The top tip, I think, is really to be yourself and to really write your own tweets so that people know it’s you talking."
It is my perception that AOC believes that these are three totally and completely different points.
If you’re an older woman, talk like an older woman talks
Clearly directed at Warren and her kitchen video. The term Indian Burn comes to mind, although I think that actually referred to something else...
The "yourself" AOC shows us daily is someone who has been indoctrinated but not educated.
One of the older female reps should tweet that they were quite offended by AOC's suggestion, so much so that they got the vapors and took to their smelling salts. Then call her Alexandria Ocasio-Coquette.
That's why we accept the misspellings and not-quite-accurate statements
I don't like how carelessly Trump lies. I was much more worried about how carefully Clinton lied.
Funny thing is AOC likely doesn’t write her own tweets. In person she is often garbled and confused and unsure of herself. On Twitter she’s a confident on-point slay queen. It doesn’t add up.
That advice only works if you don't mind people finding out who you might actually be. For some (female) politicians that isn't the case.
When is a woman too old to tweet, "Impeach that M_____F_____"?
Clearly directed at Warren and her kitchen video.
That was my thought too. AOC is telling Warren to stop trying to imitate her.
"The way we grow our presence is being there..."
So there you have it ; AOC is a female Chauncy Gardener
She's a joke. I think she's been "RUN-TRAINED" once too often!!!
Her words, not mine....https://www.mediaite.com/politics/alexandria-ocasio-cortez-says-shes-going-to-run-train-on-the-progressive-agenda/
And if you're a wide-eyed child socialist, sound like a wide-eyed child socialist.
Which she does. And to her credit, she shows you who she is with every utterance.
Tippy top advice!
In other words, if you're an older woman, you're past your last tweetable day.
A big part of AOC's attractiveness is that she always seems so happy in the photos. Compare to HRC or Elizabeth Warren.
Alexandria's Tweeting Do's and Don'ts from the current ish of Cosmo.
She appears to be suffering from delusions of relevance.

Sure it does. The first is spontaneous. The second can be measured.
She's a force in the party. Arrogant, cocky, quick to parrot the narrative of the base, great social media presence.
Sounds like Trump. Chuck Schumer should be thinking about retirement plans. Gillibrand's not up for re-election till 2024. That's too long for AOC.
Little Red Riding Hood speaking truth to Grandma-ma.
She's brainless on occasion.

I think she is the big bad wolf who found a case of red lipstick.
That would explain the teeth.
If you can tweet sincerity, you've got it made. (To paraphrase the old quote).
"If you're a Negro, tweet like a Negro."
Sincerity doesn't necessarily equate to honesty, but at least it lets people know where you stand.

Are you implying she's a bit long in tooth?
Why is she picking on older women?
Why not "If you're an old person talk like an old person"?
Oh well, girls will be girls.
Yeah, when I’m looking for advice on how to conduct my life, I’ll turn to a 29-year-old socialist media-hyped airhead.
AOC speech style advice for Speaker Pelosi must involve looking like she's straining at passing a stool while appearing not to look forgetful.
Being yourself is hugely more entertaining than any alternative if you have a sense of humor.
Millennialsplaining.
Stating the obvious, she is.
Teach Trump to tweet, she should.
I for one think that Ann should take AOC's advice to heart. Less reliance on Dylan lyrics--I'm in the mood for Glenn Miller references. Dump Ashley Madison for Depends. Who cares about #MeToo vs. Jordan Peterson, when the real burning issue is burial vs. cremation?
She knows everything--just like the Althouse Lefties.
So blacks should talk like blacks, and whites like whites? And Hillary shouldn't be noways tarred!
Ocasio-Cortez is sneakily infiltrating the Dem's leadership from out of nowhere as fast as that sneaky guy from Illinois/Hawaii/Indonesia/Kenya did it 12 years ago. They are toast.
"If you’re an older woman, talk like an older woman talks" — instructs Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez..."
Talk Like a Frump
Oh, talk, talk, talk, talk
Oh, talk, talk, talk
Oh how you tried to cut me down to size
Tweeting youngish Tweets to all my friends
But I say give her up, don't bother
The world isn't comin' to an end
They should...
Walk like a frump, talk like a frump
Walk like a frump, talk like a frump
No woman crawlin' on the earth
Whose menopause started before my birth
Has got what it'll take to beat Trump
Advice like this is why the Democrat knives are out for AOC. Yesterday, even NPR did a segment on how she is making enemies among her own party.
Since I don't pay attention to anything she says or does, I have a lot of free time in my day.
Her advice is correct- this is why Trump is so successful with Twitter- he is himself when he uses it. Indeed, I wouldn't read his tweets otherwise. Authenticity matters- I pointed out the other day that Obama's Twitter history strongly suggested that the account wasn't used by Obama at all, but was run by a staff of several people. Of course, Obama didn't need Twitter- he had the media perfectly willing to carry his message for him, but Trump does need it, and he would be sabotaging himself if he farmed it out to staff.
"Why is she picking on older women?
Why not "If you're an old person talk like an old person"?"
Which is why several members of the female persuasion in my life react negatively to my Valley Girl rendition of "what-ever". Personally, I think that it is quite good. But I always seem to be out voted. Esp in the house here with my partner.

Delusions of competence. She's promoted way above her level, the embodiment of the Peter Principle.
"If you’re an older woman, talk like an older woman talks" — instructs Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez..."
And I'm like, this is so super super incredible. Or whatever.
If Ocasio-Cortez is being herself, how does she afford her wardrobe and stylists?
Of course I know the answer. The question is rhetorical.
"we have a well-tuned sense of who's being genuine and who's a phony. That's why we hate politicians instinctively."
Who dat we?
As I recall, Althouse thought O would be very pragmatic. Didn't "hate him instinctively." Somehow, her well-tuned sense of who's a phony didn't extend to the unicorn rider.
She's kind of full of herself, isn't she. I think she is exactly what the Democrat Party needs. And deserves.
Chuck Schumer should be thinking about retirement plans.
You just keep telling yourself that, Brian.
If it looks like an older woman, talks like an older woman and walks like an older woman, it's an older woman.
She doesn't say anything about vaginal dryness.
