And unlike most other reportage in this saga, this accused the president of a felony — a very different bar. Democrats read the story and began immediately dreaming up articles of impeachment. Even some conservatives joined the 'If true' chorus...."

Writes Axios in "A reckoning for political journalism" (also reporting that BuzzFeed Editor-in-Chief Ben Smith is standing by his story, saying "We literally don't know what the special counsel is referring to" and "This is a line of reporting that has been repeatedly vindicated").

Isn't that the case where the judge is keeping all the discovery secret ?

Not only from the public but from the defendants. All discovery has to go through a "firewall" a supposedly independent lawyer who vets everything before it goes to the defendents.

Don't ask me to explain. I don't understand it either.

The hearing that was recently unsealed was secret as well.

WaPo recovered from that over time, but whenever something like what Buzzfeed did happens, I think of that time. The closest thing to it in this generation is probably the Rolling Stone UVA "Jackie" rape story.

Not relevant. Mueller's is a POLITICAL investigation. It's simply stage dressing for the Trump impeachment. The Democrats will wave around a sheaf of papers from his report and blindly assert that Trump has done monstrous things.

Funny thing, Althouse was one of the "100 Legal Scholars" who signed a petition insisting that Bill Clinton's actions "did not rise to the level" of High Crimes and Misdemeanors. I remember heated arguments from the Left here at Althouse very narrowly defining the grounds of impeachment. Its amazing watching them spin 18O to go after Trump.
