Person of the Year.

The article at TIME: "THE GUARDIANS AND THE WAR ON TRUTH." They couldn't just honor Khashoggi. I haven't combed through the article, but Trump's name is in there a lot, and I don't think he counts as one of the "guardians."

ADDED: I must add that I got there via the great Scott Adams tweet: "Fake News is Time's Person of the Year."

The Fake News honors others in the totally discredited MSM.

Might as well put Morning Joe on the cover. It is all about impeaching Trump. And only our betters in the Fake News can save us from Trump and his hush money payments to whores.

What a total and complete joke Time is. It needs to go bankrupt.

Kashoggi had a column. I guess that made him a columnist. But he was many other thangs, too.

As always, this is more complicated than the MSM makes it out to be.

And yet he really is a guardian of the truth. By that I mean the objective truth as it really is, not the facsimile of the “truth” after the media finish spinning it, ignoring it, misstating it, misinterpreting it, or otherwise twisting it out of shape.

Time's man of the year.

Used to be important before Cable TV and the internet, when lots of people got their news from reading Time or Newsweek - once a week.

But that was 25 years ago.

And the whole Saudi thing is fake news, made up to hurt Trump. Just like always.

"Mass media" is virtually dead. It's made up just about entirely of these kind of niche publications pandering to their niche audiences. TIME is a relic.

The Hill: US Citizen Layla Shweikani Likely Executed in Syrian Prison

Be honest, Chuck: had you heard of Layla Shweikani? If not, why not? She was a US citizen, from Chicago, Chuck. But few here have heard the story. Is she less important than a non-US journalist (or "journalist" since "activist" seems more appropriate)?

Being told to care about some things and not others is a political act, Chuck. A LifeLong Republican should be very familiar with the ways Media bias works. Choosing to cover some things and not other things is the primary vector through which Media bias and partisanship works.

People resisting the call to pay an inordinate amount of attention to the murder of a non-US citizen aren't bad people for that, Chuck--they may just be resisting what they see as propaganda. People who refuse to buy into the beatification of a guy who was, let's say, problematic at best, aren't bad people because of that, Chuck.

traditionalguy said...

Khashoggi was a mega rich arms dealer and a Consiglieri to Prince Alaweed.Together the were CIA's inside agents supporting the Bush Family's wars for 30 years. As such they were up to their necks in bribing of senior US Politicians of both parties. But when Trump announced the end of that corrupt system the new Saudi Prince facing USA Oil dominance flipped to the new guys that offered him a Deal. He then gave Trump's MI the full records of all the bribed career US Politicians, who then started resigning and not running again faster than a NY second.

But the CIA guys and the Clinton Crime Gang are playing for time in hopes of a last second chance to kill Trump before they are arrested. Stay tuned.

Khashoggi was never an American . Khashoggi was never a Journalist. He recently had a CIA issued visa to come to DC for his protection and the CIA's owned Paper published two opinion pieces and put his name on them.

Chuck, I did not realize that murder victims were suddenly absolved of all sins. That would certainly complicate historical analysis certainly. I'm sure there would be a small but well motivated group to reclassify Hitler's suicide as a murder by the hands of that *bleeping* Goebbels. He murdered a hundred microphones so what's one more?!

The matter of the fact is Khashoggi was a bad man who was (most likely) assassinated by another bad man, and the entire event is being exploited by another bad man in Edrogan. I suppose if you want we can try to rank their level of badness to try to find who qualifies as most relatively righteous, but the matter of the thing is this situation is basically the equivalent of a gang war with somewhat more couth. Saudi Arabia is still stuck in the 7th century except with more expensive toys, and Khashoggi's goal appears to have been to create a slightly different version of the 7th century more to his liking. To me Khashoggi is basically Trotsky, the guy who was killed without achieving the power he wanted and therefore has some plausible deniability since he was not in the position to rack up the body count. I suppose he Khashoggi or Trotsky could have been the better option in the general order of things, but that is merely speculation and I tend to doubt it.

I'm still not sure why the Washington Post hired him. It seems like both sides considered the other to be a useful idiot.

Very true words. You are very good in phrasing it like that, Hoodlum

As citizens, I am even prepared to hear Citizen X say I should care about, say, capital punishment, or taxation, or health care, or where the park should go, or critical issues affecting a subset of the population. I can always walk away / stop reading if I don't like what they have to say. And that rule cuts both ways if I hold the opposite view on say capital punishment taxes etc.

What citizen X and citizen me don't need is the Important Media Person telling us this is what you should think.
