"Most of those surveyed, 53 percent, say they have a lot or some trust in Mueller; just 38 percent have little or no trust in the former FBI director and his investigation to be fair and accurate."

"In contrast, 59 percent express little or no trust in the president's denials; just 35 percent say they have some or a lot of trust in him to be speaking the truth."

A new USA Today poll.

Tell them what they want to hear, just like the 2016 election.

Really? I'm sure there are other polls that have much different results.

No surprise. They get their news from the lefty "media", who will never report stuff like this.

"British ex-spy Christopher Steele, who wrote the Democrat-financed anti-Trump dossier, said in a court case that he was hired by a Democratic law firm in preparation for Hillary Clinton challenging the results of the 2016 presidential election."

Are there any poll polls that reveal how many Americans trust polls?

Fernandinande said...

The question about Trump was:

"How much trust do you have in President Trump's denial that there was collusion in his campaign with Russian meddling?"

They're still beating that miniature dead horse.

Sebastian said...

Most of the 53% are Dems who trust that Mueller will continue the persecution of Trump and his allies.

Inga...Allie Oop said...

As I always said, most of folks are the 35 %.

"This blog caters to the 35 per cent."

Althouse posted a headline tending to undermine the President's credibility, without comment. Readering detects pro-Trump bias.

Fernandinande said...

Someone commented elsewhere to the effect that "if you're concerned about Russian election meddling, what you should really be concerned about is the idea that a few 'memes' from Facebook trolls can affect an election."

The MSM has never covered the details of the story. It's a 24/7 anti-Trump narrative. How do you expect people to respond? Bravo to the 38% that do independent research.

Considering the unending fire-hose of negative coverage of Trump, and the near complete embargo on news about the soft coup the Deep State has been engaged in against Trump since BEFORE and after the election by the LameStream Media©, it is rather shocking that Trumps trust numbers are not much lower.

All in all, the LameStream Media© has been shoulder to shoulder with those like Mueller, Andrew McCabe, Lisa Page and her lover Peter Strzok in their attempts to take down the legitimate elected President of the United States.

Disgusting.

Funny how USA Today got that in just before Judge Emmett Sullivan's ruling in the Flynn case today.

https://www.salon.com/2018/12/18/fox-news-poll-only-38-percent-of-americans-would-vote-to-re-elect-donald-trump/

“Only 38 percent of Americans claim they would vote for Trump for a second term — while 55 percent say they plan to vote for his unknown rival. And even that is an improvement for the president. In April of 2017, 36 percent of Americans stated they would vote to re-elect Trump, while 56 percent already planned to oppose him.”

Looks like this FOX poll isn’t all that different. That 35 to 38% seem to represent a Trumpists very well.

I understand the pollsters want to reflect the people but they do a pretty good job creating the results. It’s all in the wording and how it’s reported by the media. After two years of this supposed collusion investigation created under dubious circumstances a lot of people are willing to believe something criminal must have happened.

stevew said...

And yet so far Trump is 100% correct, there is no proven collusion between his campaign and a foreign power in the election and no other crimes of any kind.

Pretty useless poll.

stevew said...

“while 55 percent say they plan to vote for his unknown rival"

If they vote at all. Do they realize that answering a poll doesn't count as a vote in an election?

He was never going to win in 2016, remember?

Mueller has not released anything. He has done a terrific job controlling leaks. We know almost nothing about his conclusions. I have strong doubts about Mueller's objectivity because his investigative team is loaded with people sympathetic to the Clintons, implying a likely anti-Trump bias. but even I have "some trust" in Mueller, because there is no proof of that bias yet. I bet that 58% figure will fall below 50% when the report is released if it trashes Trump without investigating the crimes committed by Democrats.

rehajm said...

I'll trust Mueller when he recommends prosecution for the FBI and Obama leakers.

We can still apply the No Reasonable Prosecutor standard to felonies, right Mr Mueller?

I'm sure you'd get the same result if you asked the Trump/Russia poll takers for a reason for their belief.

Hell, just ask Inga and watch her struggle.

Swamp vapors! It is a tribute to both the stupidity and the declining morality of Americans that anyone trusts him despite the evidence that Mueller is acting on the basis of discredited probable cause, has hired Democrat activists to dominate his team, has spent millions to pursue chickenshit indictments and is highly motivated to whitewash corruption in the FBI and DOJ that he, Obama and Holder polluted.

I despair that my children and grandchildren are left with a country whose people are mindless media puppets.

I don’t give a rat’s ass if Thomas’ name is on a campus building. There are far more pressing issues to consider.

A few hundred thousand in social media ads for vodka, fish, and bread. Of course, it pales in comparison to a few billion in ads across mainstream media, social media, and other channels, foreign and domestic, run by the alternatives.

Neither you nor I “know” what is going on in the Mueller investigation. And you can’t possibly speak with any seriousness to what you think I “know”. Maybe it would do you folks some good to stop focusing on what liberals/ lefties are doing and thinking and open your eyes to what is happening right under your own noses in your own political Party.

A large portion of our population is viewing this situation with the assumption that "where there is smoke, there is fire".

Our country's public intellectuals -- journalists, legal experts, etc. -- hate President Trump so much that they are happy to let the situation continue to be covered by smoke.

I spent much of my adult life studying Communist countries. The current situation gives me a better understanding of living in a society that is being brain-washed by an arrogant, propagandizing ruling class.

Donald Trump is being treated like a "wrecker" who is conspiring with hostile foreigners to sabotage the USA's political system. It's a mass hysteria.

The current left wing of the Democratic is acting like the John Birch Society did in the late 1950s and early 1960s -- accusing the US President of being a secret, active agent of Russia and demanding that US Supreme Court justices be impeached.

I just read Judge Sullivan’s comments at the sentencing. What a pompous asshat. Treason. Seriously? Sold out his country? Seriously? Ignoring the prosecutor’s recommendation on a non-substantive offense? Seriously? The offense is aggravated because the venue was the White House? Seriously?

This silly old bastard ought to read the casefile instead of the WaPo. Then he should recuse himself for stupidity as well as bias.

Treason? Good lord!

38% of Americans distrust a major and long-established institution of American government? What would it have been in 1962? 1982? Viewed through any historical context that's a huge number.
I guess if all you can do is divide by 2 then that seems like some kind of victory for your spin.

CWJ said...

On this, Inga has been consistent. It's been the same answer for over a year.

"Neither you nor I “know” what is going on in the Mueller investigation." Because all of the information, activities, objectives, and even the specific crime being investigated by this publicly funded, open ended, oversightless, non progress report requiring investigation is so supersensitive that the American public cannot be trusted with any of it.

"And you can’t possibly speak with any seriousness to what you think I “know”." Because what Inga actually thinks, much less knows, about any of this (other than politics) is equally so supersensitive that the Althouse community cannot be trusted with any of it.

Follow the money.

Polling firms don't run polls then go to the market and sell the results. People, entities, want a poll and go buy one. Who buys polls? The media, they need news right? Politicians, they need to know what people are really thinking. Corporations poll their customers.
Focus on the media. They buy lots of polls. So they already have a story, already have the narrative, now all they need is some "science" to bring it all together. Just commission a poll and tell them the narrative to meet. Now all the pollers have to do is draft the right questions in the right order. Weight the demographics the right way, work the phones for a week, and you have a poll to support what ever. your hear desires.
