"SNL" makes it up to Lt. Com. Dan Crenshaw with Crenshaw on the show mocking Pete Davidson's looks.

This begins with an apology from Davidson, has some good retaliatory jokes in the middle, and ends with some serious Veterans Day thoughts.

(What Davidson did last week was include a photo of Crenshaw in a bit where he gave his first impression of other people's looks, and what he said about Crenshaw focused on his eye patch. As Davidson acknowledged in last week's episode, Crenshaw lost an eye in the war.)

That was nice.

Crenshaw seemed almost like a pro, not all stiff and awkward like so many other politicians on SNL.

What's the deal with Davidson's hair color? Does he dye it gray?

Not to be pedantic but...

Shouldn’t it be Lt. Cdr.?

Uberpedantic: LCDR

Crenshaw is quite the talent. If John Coryn retires, I can see him winning that seat. He would drum Beto.

Crenshaw is a very cool guy. It was nice of him to let Davison off the hook. That makes him even cooler......I'll keep this in mind the next time when evaluating how some Democrat responds to a dumb remark by a Republican,

Technically, it should be MAJOR (O-4)

If he's a naval officer, O-4 is LCDR, if a marine officer, O-4 is MAJ. And LCDR's are properly addressed as Commander, just as O-5 LTCOL's are addressed as Colonel.

Crenshaw should have said something like, "I forgive Pete because we are like brothers in arms. No, really. Comedy is like war. One minute you're firing off jokes about Republicans and conservatives as usual; then -- BOOM!-- one of your jokes misfires and you're taking fire from the right AND friendly fire from the left. Your very existence as a lefty in good standing hangs in the balance. Pete bravely faced this mortal threat. I salute him and thank him for his comedic service."

Crenshaw hit a home run. Great timing and delivery.

This was a classy move, on both parts. I don't like hammering home what is and isn't funny, but this seemed a cheap shot. And they handled it well. Now, that doesn't take back the overly harsh treatment Davidson gave Anne Coulter at the Rob Lowe roast. That was uncalled for, even given the setting.

Good all around.

Shock! SNL has a shred of decency left after all!

FTR: Crenshaw is Navy, so it's LCDR.

I thought it was touching that Crenshaw mentioned Davidson's father. Poor kid wasn't quite eight when he died.

"SNL has a shred of decency left after all!"

NOT.

Decency is self-initiated, coming from within. SNL was guilted into this. Left to its own devices this week would have seen SNL do another round of dumping of Deplorables.

Who watched? not me.

SNL it TV for lefties.

I was happy to vote for Crenshaw and that he is now my Representative.

Still don't care about SNL. They have a pretense of being provocative, but really they are not nearly as edgy as they pretend.

The left has bumped my cynicism level to eleventy. I'm not at all convinced SNL would have done this without strong push back on the original mess.

Surprisingly nice bit.

Proves SNL is run by the Democrat party. Dems went to two extremes this election, running socialists candidates and lots of veterans as centrists. I was surprised that there were that many veterans who are Dems. Since this year Dems are presenting themselves as rah-rah pro-military they can't have SNL undercut the message. After all their audience is the Dem base.

The person in the pink sweatshirt reminds me of Obama. Anyone else see the similarity?

"As Davidson acknowledged in last week's episode, Crenshaw lost an eye in the war."

He didn't acknowledge it so much as completely blow it off: "I’m sorry, I know he lost his eye in war, or whatever."

Yeah, yeah, yeah, you know, war, or whatever.

I won’t see it but sounds nice.

Crenshaw is a stand up guy with a bright future. It was also a nice touch to note Davidson lost his father on September 11.

SNL is a Democrat agitprop, but sometimes even agitprop stubs its toe on occasion. Love Crenshaw's line about SNL finally making a Republican look good -- a nicely nuanced way of acknowledging the obvious. Wonder if Davidson has been getting an earful about making a Republican look good. His job is to do otherwise.

Never forget!

The ringtone was great. I hope he really had been saying, "Thanks for making Republicans look good" all day.

That was funny. But the lesson won’t be learned.

I wonder how many unique clicks they’ll get?

I'll give Davidson props for being allowed to handle it this way. Even if it was 100 percent forced by circumstances and he doesn't believe a word he says, he still had to stand up and say it.

Hypocrisy has its uses. Paying lip service to a cultural norm implies that the norm still has power to influence, in this case, good behavior.

Look at the kerfluffle in Arizona and Florida. They're not hewing to norms, but stealing the elections publicly. What's stopping them? Apparently, nothing.

And Crenshaw for bucking the whole trend of demanding the professional destruction of someone for saying something mean.

SNL should make a running gag of this. Each week Davidson can insult someone, then have them on the following week for a humorous apology.

I can't wait to see him call Kanye an uppity nigger. Ordinarily that would mean the end of Davidsons career. But since Kanye ran off the plantation few months ago, maybe not.

Watch as they turn Bob O'Rourke - married to a billionaire, into a celebrity.

If I were Crenshaw I would have made my appearance sitting in a dimly lit chair, stroking a cat like some sort of Bond Villain. Good evening Mr. Davidson...

SNL is bad because it is just partisan sniping, but I never really thought this particular joke really crossed the line. We don't need to be that oversensitive and I am glad Crenshaw handled it this way.

Martin said...

I don't give a shit, Davidson is an a-hole and so is corporate NBC. What he did last week was the real him and the real NBC, before he and the suits saw the reaction. These things aren't ad libbed, they are carefully scripted and reviewed and approved.

Crenshaw seems like a really nice guy, too nice to understand the degree to which some people loathe him.

DEEBEE said...

La de da de de, la de da de da And the lib goes on.
His pay masters said that porn Assassin was a bridge too far, so an apology is necessary. Until the next murderr.

Come on Trumplicans, the real Question you must ponder is will Counterpunch Trump ever forgive the classy warrior. This was obviously a Sad display of Class on a low rated, never funny, losing TV show! It won’t be long, trust Me, before the strong, fearless (unless it’s drizzling) POTUS thinks up a nickname for Crenshaw. Then, Dilbert, Althouse and the echo chamber will celebate the branding genius for his courage.

Yeah, I know judges and Winning.
