"Segway Jeremy" — a central character in the 2011 Wisconsin protests — has been arrested for trying to buy a lethal dose of radioactive material.

Fox 6 Now reports:
The FBI has arrested a former Congressional candidate. Federal agents say Jeremy Ryan was attempting to get his hands on a lethal dose of radioactive material. You may recall that Ryan, a Town of Madison man, made a name for himself as an Act 10 protester and recently ran for Congress against Paul Ryan.

Court documents allege that in March and October 2018, Ryan attempted to purchase a lethal dose of a radioactive substance via the internet to kill an unnamed individual. On Oct. 24, Ryan was arrested and taken into custody without incident.

"unnamed individual"

At least until the midterms are over.

The "can't we all just get along" meme gets nuked again with this story.

Trying to order it by mail? Can you really buy radioactive materials and have it mailed to you?

Is my mail carrier being irradiated?

Oh, what sad times are these when one cannot trust an FBI website on the dark net. There is a pestilence upon this land, nothing is sacred. Even those who arrange and design radioactive substances are under considerable economic stress in this period in history.

I hope they let Paul Blart make the arrest.

I note the news report never once mentions he was a Democrat party candidate [am I right in assuming he is a Democrat Althouse?]

None of this would be happening if we elected Presidents through the popular vote (And continued to allow California to allow Anyone to vote)

Since no party affiliation is mentioned, it's a lead pipe cinch that is Democratic.

I just sent you a Tweet that highlighted this story, hoping you would blog about it. IDK if Althouse saw it, but Garage Mahal answered a separate one. Jeremy is a messed up sonuvabitch.

The article mentions Paul Ryan, same last name, and continues on with the exploits of Ryan, unspecified.

This news source must be left-leaning. Any right-leaning site would've recognized the meme potential immediately.

MadisonMan asked: " Is my mail carrier being irradiated?"

No. If you are ordering radioactive material vie the internet, it generally arrives in a lead-lined steel containment vessel. Post office policy requires the recipient to assist in jerking the vessel off the rear of post office delivery vehicle.

A "progressive Republican" . Sort of like Ann. Beware of "progressives" in conservative clothing.

I keep hearing in media now that both sides need to cool the rhetoric. Bullshit! The Republicans are almost exclusively the victims of this shit. It's justified on the left becuase Trump said a few off-the-cuff quips that nobody on the right took as calls to violence. These were all in jest, but the ones from the kleft are said in clear seriousness, often from bright faces at the top of their lungs in open rage and hatred.

These recent mail bombs may or may not be false flags, but they only serve the Democrats. Nobody with any sense on the right wanted this to happen, despite how they might feel about the people who were sent the bombs.

Even if it turns out this was done by a Dem sympathizer, that will not stop Dems and the media from pretending it was from the right, and many idiots will believe and repeat that for all time. They even do that with the violence we know was done by the left. They blame Trump for it no matter where it comes from.

Radioactive poisoning is a hell of a seque to political success.

Of course he was arrested without incident. He tried to escape on a freaking Segway.

Wow. I have to admit - this Democrat AD is really good.

Come on R party - up your game.

BarrySanders20 said...

The left had better terrorists back in the day. The Weatherman, Ayers, the group that kidnapped Patty Hearst, the cabal the blew up the building on UW’s campus. Vaguely attractive to easily misled young women looking for excitement. People who got shit done. Now they have losers named Jeremy who ride Segways. Losers who send fake bombs that look like dildos. How disappointed those aging leftists must feel.

When there are two people in a story with the last name Ryan, does it make sense to use the last name only, as it is in the second paragraph?

Layers and layers of fact checkers and editors.

If the language is ambiguous, then the intent is ambiguity. It is clear (to me) the obvious way to convey the the facts is to use an identifying modifier, right? Speaker Ryan? Speaker of the House Ryan?
Too simple?
Assuming the goal of the piece is to convey facts accurately is where your assumptions lead you astray, and the media lets their mask slip down, revealing their true intentions.

At home drawing pictures
Of mountain tops
With him on top
Lemon yellow sun
Arms raised in a V
Dead lay in pools of maroon below

Daddy didn't give attention
Oh, to the fact that mommy didn't care
King Jeremy the wicked
Oh, ruled his world
Jeremy spoke in class today

Clearly I remember
Pickin' on the boy
Seemed a harmless little fuck
But we unleashed the lion
Gnashed his teeth and bit the recess lady's breast
How could I forget
And he hit me with a surprise left
My jaw left hurting
Dropped wide open
Just like the day
Oh like the day I heard

Daddy didn't give affection
And the boy was something that mommy wouldn't wear
King Jeremy the wicked
Ruled his world

Jeremy spoke in class today

Criminally violent mentally ill retards seem to be the voter base of the left in Wisconsin. I doubt this will get much media attention, as there is too much invested in promoting the fake dildo "pipe bombs" sent to CNN and lefty political figures (but I repeat myself.)

In total, $145 million went to the Clinton Foundation from interests linked to Uranium One, which was acquired by the Russian government nuclear agency Rosatum."

And Hillary will yet again be the Democratic nominee.

Because on the left, criminality is one big yawn.

Did they ever really have it? I've heard liberalism (not classical but the new and 'improved' progressive version) is a form of mental illness. He sounds like a rather typical example to me.

Remember, kids, "radioactive" is about as particular and specific as "warm" or "light emitting".

Plainly the "right" way to accumulate a dose that can gack someone is to order it in tiny amounts and assemble it yourself, perhaps by collecting a whack of smoke detectors.

(And of course "lethal" is a rough one to determine; if it kills them via colorectal cancer in 20 years, does that count?

Or are we talking acute radiation poisoning? Because that's ... much more difficult to arrange.)

Maybe he learned how to make bombs, or at least fake bombs.

Anyway, majoring in Liberal Arts at a technical college means he was too academically challenged to get into a university, had no hands-on vocational skills, or was too STEM-challenged to major in something mechanical or technical, probably all of the above.

I have seen arguments that right-wing thugs have KILLED, while left-wing thugs have only intimidated or injured.

This seems to imply that right-wing violence is worse not because of intent, but because of results; that is right-wing, right-wing thugs are not necessarily more hateful or violent, they are just more effective.

I don't find that argument very convincing.

Sigivald:

That's exactly how I assembled a pretty decent source when I was a kid. (Never would have occurred to me to try to hurt someone with it, I was just screwing around.)

Anyway I'd be curious to know what he thought he was ordering.

Nothing is going to happen to the guy. Remember that the perpetrators of the bombing of Sterling Hall on the UW campus — the three that were caught — only served seven years, three years, and three years, respectively, despite murdering a physics postdoc (leaving behind a WiFi’s with three small children) and leaving another postdoc permanently crippled. Being a lefty in Madison means you can get away with murder. Literally.
