Never knew of. Unique sound. Sorry about the apparent overdose. Sounds like apparent overdoses are nearly as bad as actual overdoses.

...but while both apparent and actual overdoses are bad, prosecuting crimes like drug dealing are far worse, according to our future betters...

What is the ethical difference between dying from an "apparent overdose" and committing actual suicide?

He's hunkered over the keys like he's playing a lively version of "Rhapsody In Blue" instead of, basically, the same repetitive chords.

hmmm, if we make it LEGAL (unprosecutable) to resist arrest;
will that increase the number of people resisting?
will that increase the number of people shot by cops (while resisting)?

the Good News is! apparently, you'll be able to steal hundreds of dollars worth of drugs from the dealer that is trespassing on your property (?)

May be off subject, but what happens to the tattoos? Does he retain sole rights to the art or does the tat artist now also have a claim, particularly if the art would be destroyed during cremation? Would such cremation represent a crime against humanity like the ISIS destruction of Palmyra? Or was his music the greater crime?

I dunno.

Yes, it's called "rhythm", and it's known to elude some to such an extent those who possess it find shocking.

My nephew is crushed, so I'm watching him close (I liked Mac Miller the way white Boomers like Foreigner: Ok, but no Zeppelin, right?). You've got to remember: Many in the Althouse crowd are old white guys who have NO IDEA what they're talking about, in regards to rap or music, so take what they say with a grain of salt. The fact, they thought this was rap, should tell you all you need to know about their opinions.

When I was a kid, listening to Rock and lamenting how awful the drummers were, I never imagined improving rhythm in music would get us this evil white guy backlash that would result in them - almost 40 years after rap's emergence - still throwing your bodies on the throne of agony. You guys are worse than the Democrats after losing to Trump.

Miller did have an interesting jazz/rap sound, and this...

Donald Trump" is a song by American rapper/singer Mac Miller... The song was dedicated to real estate personality Donald Trump, who, five years after the song's release, was elected as the 45th President of the United States. During Trump's 2016 campaign, the song regained popularity, hitting #28 on the iTunes Charts on November 9, 2016, the day after Trump was elected president. Miller stated in an interview that he was not a supporter of Trump.

The money-inspired hip-hop song refers to business magnate and politician Donald Trump, particularly Mac Miller's ambitions to become wealthy and successful like him ("Take over the world when I'm on my Donald Trump shit/Look at all this money, ain't that some shit?").

The many references to Trump in lyrics have not gone unnoticed by the billionaire. When the song became a Billboard hit, Trump released a YouTube video congratulating the rapper...

In August 2011, shortly after the music video to the song reached 20 million views on YouTube, Donald Trump himself praised the song and branded the young Pittsburgh rapper as "the next Eminem". Mac Miller responded appreciatively, but played down any comparisons between himself and Eminem.

As the song garnered more plays, Trump took a more aggressive tone and demanded royalties for using his name, thereby starting a feud with Miller. In early 2013, Trump threatened the rapper via a series of exchanges on Twitter:

Little @MacMiller, you illegally used my name for your song “Donald Trump” which now has over 75 million hits.
I want the money not the plaque you gave me! I’m now going to teach you a big boy lesson about lawsuits and finance. You ungrateful dog! I have more hair than you do and there’s a slight age difference.

In 2015 Trump changed his attitude toward Miller again when he ended an interview with The Hill by praising Miller's song as it approached 100 million hits.

During Trump's campaign for president in 2016, Mac Miller said on The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore that Trump was "such an egomaniacal, attention-thirsty, psychopathic, power-hungry, delusional waste of skin and bones".

Plus, Miller said...

"I'm not going anywhere"

Well, Miller got that one wrong. RIP.

I hope you all know that it isn't the music that is killing people, it is the Fentanyl, Heroin, and other opioids. My son knows many who have died, some whom I had met. It is hard for me to understand, because when I was young in the '70s, everyone knew that heroin could/would kill you. People tried all sorts of things, including opium, but heroin was not big in the suburbs. Now it is here and people are dying.

What I see by way of reaction is a lot of needle-exchange-Narcan-rehab-for-all adjustments. Now I see stories of people dying on their third overdose of the day, after Narcan "saved" them twice. What I do not see is cultural revulsion. I will go to church today and hear about compassion for the homeless (who are largely addicts in the area), but I won't hear a word about the danger to kids in the congregation. People sometimes think that talent and brains can save you from addiction, when all they can do is keep you from starting.

Thousands of talented people die everyday, to little notice. Especially those who's talents are in areas that aren't considered art. Death at a young age is always a tragedy, why we pick out some that aren't particularly special is always a mystery to me.

This artist seems to want to get rich like our President, but doesn't respect the President. But he was young, and lived in an extremely cloistered environment, so self awareness was not something he had developed. Millions of artist toil for little monetary reward, but for the joy of doing. Those are the people I admire, and I haven't even known their work.

What I do not see is cultural revulsion.

Lol. This culture has had more chances than it knows or could ever deserve to revolt over the way it lets powerful companies looking to make a buck push every dangerous product on it known to man. It has had more chances to revolt over the lack of any professional or political or personal responsibility when it comes to preventing these things and holding the people who have the most power of them to account.

And it has decided to watch Game of Thrones, tune out, and vote Republican instead.

Bleach Drinkers Curing Coronavirus Together said...

The natural-born racist Republicans in this comments section apparently didn't listen past the first few minutes. It gets pretty groovy at least by about nine minutes in, where I'm at now. I love that guy's sunburst, hollow-bodied, guitar-shaped six-string bass. That's awesome.

Rap is certainly not (and never was) the death of music but Republicanism is certainly the death of artistry, expression, human relations, compassion, and all sorts of other things that no culture can survive without.

Bleach Drinkers Curing Coronavirus Together said...

Once Republicans achieve their wet dream of ruling America with an iron fist with their own Minister of Culture and everything, the only songs that will be allowed on the radio will be advertiser jingles, the Lollipop song, and other safe/lame '50s standards.

“Rich”

Jesus these people have no idea. Move to New York and work in the finance industry. I have a very good annual income but nowhere near where some of my friends’ are. You get totally inured to the money - it doesn’t even matter anymore.

Remember that scene in Wall Street where Gekko shreds his first class plane tickets? I just had a friend who was given a free, all expense paid cruise on the line’s new luxury liner in one of the top staterooms (he invests in recreation stocks and the company was trying to show how nice its new liner was).

When he and his wife arrived and after the porters had taken their bags to the room, he decided he couldn’t be around all the other people on the ship and disembarked and they just stayed at the Faena in Miami for a week instead.

He tells this story laughingly. Expecting his audience to appreciate his distaste for the hoi polloi.
