Either that or they'll claim that whites globally have power, and so therefore whites in South Africa are by association the oppressor class.

Yes, and some have come back working under contract.
White South Africans are expert farmers. But farming margins are small. So a productivity dip of 15% sinks the ship. Let alone productivity dips of 70%. No one thinks that if SA farms are confiscated they’ll remain viable. Not even the EFF. They don’t care. The ANC realizes all this, but the problem they have is the other problem, corruption. You wouldn’t believe it. I doubt they even know what a straight transaction looks like. I laughed at the scale of the stories until my sides hurt.

The Tsar tried the same thing sometime in the 1860s, recruiting German farmers to settle on farms in western Russia. (I know this because my father-in-law's relatives were part of this movement, it's a family story.)
To sweeten the deal, the farmers were spared from taxes and military service for 20 years.
At the end of the 20 years, the farmers picked up and moved back to Germany. They didn't intermarry into the local population, so it was easy to do.

One of the big geopolitical lessons of the late 20th century is how easily a nation can flip from communism to fascism.
A lot of conservatives, myself included, had thought that introducing free markets and stock markets would eventually lead to political liberalization.
Instead, guys like Putin figured out that if they gave the people free markets, stock portfolios, and startup companies, people wouldn't mind if their leaders retained their repressive police-state apparatus and suppression of political dissent.
And chose a different scapegoat to give the people an emotional target. Russia has apparently flipped from scapegoating "capitalists" to scapegoating "nonwhites."
