Rosenstein resigns.

Axios.

I know, Kavanaugh and sex sex sex are so distracting that this big story will just waft by unnoticed....

ADDED: Everything is spinning out of control...

(Image is what you see at Axios, displaying from the next story down after the one I link to.)

AND: The post title is inaccurate. I'm seeing now that he's only considering resigning and that Rosenstein is currently at the White House and we're waiting to hear more.

MORE: WaPo is saying that R has offered to resign.

PLUS: "With Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein’s ouster, Solicitor General Noel Francisco is slated to oversee the Robert Mueller probe under the Justice Department’s succession plan" (Washington Times).

Vox: "Meet Noel Francisco, the man who will oversee the Mueller probe if Trump fires Rosenstein":
Francisco is the next Senate-confirmed Justice Department official in line, which means the Mueller investigation would drop to him....

Francisco, a prominent Republican lawyer, has some impressive conservative credentials. He clerked for Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia and worked in the Justice Department during the George W. Bush administration.

He’s also defended a broad interpretation of executive power.... In 2007, he testified about his views on presidential power during a congressional inquiry into Bush’s politically motivated firing of nine US attorneys.... [H]e criticized the idea of appointing a special counsel to investigate the Bush administration over this scandal....

Francisco also argued for the expansiveness of executive power, saying that conversations between administration officials, even if Bush wasn’t actively involved, could be protected by executive privilege. He didn’t say executive privilege was absolute — but he basically said it was up to the court to decide: “What the courts have said is that in the context of a criminal investigation, if there is a sufficient showing of need, it can obviate the privilege.”....

“If RR isn't fired, and doesn't resign, then isn't he then beholden to Trump? Does that serve the interests of Trump?”

My comment from a coup,e days ago was that Trump had Rosenstein’s balls in a vice after the wiretap leak. It probably was sarcastic (or he wouldn’t have survived the weekend), but he was (most likely) the only Presidential appointee in the room, and therefore his duty of loyalty essentially required his ratting out the Resisters, which he didn’t do.

I think that meeting with Gen Kelly was significant. He is Trump’s hammer, which very likely means that Kelly very likely tightened the vice a bit, to make his point. This also says very clearly to the country that Rosenstein is on very thin ice. If he had met first with Trump, there would possibly be a question whether the meeting was for policy reasons. Kelly first saw him first, which means that it was for discipline. Now, he can go and be acting AG when he meets with Trump. Stick and carrot.

I hope the President pulls the trigger on RR. His replacement Noel Francisco sounds like a winner. Somebody tell Buwaya that a Philipino American from Oswego NY and Brandeis + U. of Chicago Law and a Scalia clerk is going to take over cleaning of the the Justice Department Augean Stables. There is hope for America Again.

I wonder if she knows something about Brett too...

Seriously, I have moved beyond disgust with the DEMs to anger. Seeing Kavanaugh state he will not be intimidated into withdrawing his nomination is heartening. The Republicans need to fight this with all they have, or the only person I'll vote for is Trump.

Sorry wrong thread. But that doesn't change how I feel!

Noel Francisco is Filipino. If he eventually moves up, this might improve buwaya's opinion of us.

Gonna take a lot more than that, I'm thinking.

I'll go buy something at Amazon if you'll stop that spinning thing.

My opinion of you is just fine.
Your problem is what you collectively (not you all here, personally) are about to become.

Mr. Francisco is neither here nor there, and it doesn't matter what ethnicity anyone is.
There are lots of Filipinos who should be ashamed of themselves, it is not a mark of quality.

I dont understand this comment.

Buwaya simply comments on the state of our current internal political cold war (though the hot elements appear to be on the rise) and he draws clear parallels to the greater human condition and history.

I find his commentary cooly objective and historically sound and not without some melancholy for what we have already clearly lost and potentially will lose.

I am with Cracker Emcee and Big Mike. Rosenstein's balls are now firmly in Trump's grasp and he will, at least last until the mid -terms, with Rosenstein all the while screaming "How high, sir? How high?"

I am disappointed that Ann has seen fit to let this inaccurate piece stay open. She must be headed to Chicago again.

LLR Chuck: "My rule in smearing Trump is that it must be true, to be used."

Hilariously and moronically false.

As always.

Though your lefty allies here and everywhere greatly appreciate your efforts on their behalf.

When Avenatti starts tossing out allegations of gang rapes, he's doing that without any evidence at all

I disagree, mildly. It is possible a willing girl had sex with more than one guy, for fun. In today's definition, any woman looking back can be convinced she was not willing, but was raped.

Drago said...

What happens when one of LLR Chuck's heroic leftist dems finds a dude who shared a locker room with Kavanaugh but now identifies as a chick?

Gid forbid Kavanaugh ever snapped a towel at him/her/xer!

Remember how LLR Chucks dem allies tried to pin murder on Romney for a high school haircut?

Not sure Avenatti had that many intelligent and fair-minded listeners to begin with.

That is one percent above Democrat Party favorability.

I'm sure the Michael Avenatti claims that lost* Chuck, fopdoodle extraordinaire will improve the Blue Wave chances.

*Chuck, fopdoodle extraordinaire, admits that Avenatti used to have Chuck. All LLRs are naturally inclined toward Creepy Porn Lawyers.

You lying sack of shit.

You just got through telling these readers that I wanted the Kavanaugh nomination to fail. I made it clear that I want Kavanaugh to be confirmed.

You troll. You need to quit cluttering all of these pages with your worthless drivel and your phony allegations against me.

You Lie! Haircut was assault and battery. Dog on roof was attempted murder in the first degree.

Shoulda been here when six foot, 190 pounds Chuck wanted to attack diminutive Greta Van Sustern and bruise her up so "She could see how it feels"

Very rough and tumble back then.

The one thing I don't like about Chuck, fopdoodle extraordinaire, above all others is his casual racism.

Noted racist commenter Chuck: "You just got through telling these readers that I wanted the Kavanaugh nomination to fail."

I made no such claim...are you quite sure you are a lawyer?

I merely made note of the similarities in yours and the lefty smear merchants tactics. Smear merchant tactics which you so proudly shouted from the rooftops not that long ago.

And now you are running from your earlier proud claims.

Well, thats another interesting and entirely coincidental similarity between you and the lefties......hmmmmm.

Unexpectedly!

Noel Francisco would probably be considered an hispanic for those who believe in the concept.

The Philippines were under Spanish rule for more than 400 years. There may be more Spanish blood in philipinos than in South Americans. (mostly colonized by Irish, germans and Italians)

I don't think he is a wise Latino, though. I think Latinos have to have come from South America.

I don't want Rosenstein to resign. I want Trump to fire his fucking ass.

langford peel said...

More fake news.

He resigned. No he was fired. No he resigned before he was fired. No he didn't resign.

It is all bullshit.

Trump will not fire him. The damage he could do was already done. You don't get rid of a traitor when you know he is a traitor. You keep him in place and feed him lies so he can peddle them to his side. If you replace him another one will be sent in his place and you might not catch him.

I have no doubt he will resign. Once the emails and the FISA documents are published.

Right now he is a cat toy for the Press to distract them from the Supreme Court mess.

If Trump Fires Rosenstein... Here's the Rapid Response Plan to Flood the Nation's Streets

"While crucial questions remain about exactly how a White House meeting between Trump administration officials and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein will play out on Monday, progressive groups are reminding the nation that if Rosenstein is fired there's a plan to take to the streets in massive numbers.

"You know those signs that say 'In case of emergency, break glass?'" wrote The Atlantic's David Frum after news broke that Rosenstein had been summoned to the White House, with multiple news stories reporting that his ouster was likely imminent. "This is that emergency.""

Drago said...

David Frum, another "True Conservative" LLR who somehow always ends up siding with the left.

Unexpectedly.

Well, those well paid lefty controlled LLR trained house pet positions on lefty networks are not that numerous so there is fierce competition amongst the LLR/"TruCons" to prove their worth to their lefty masters.

"There may be more Spanish blood in philipinos than in South Americans."

I doubt this. There are good genetic studies of much of Latin America, and the "white" proportion is fairly high across the board. Mexico for instance is between 40 and 50% white overall, as best I recall. Disproportionately coming from the male line.

The Philippines is much worse surveyed, but IIRC the "white" proportion runs to 5% or so, just like Mexico highly concentrated by socioeconomic group. There were always extremely few Spaniards in the colony. Pure or near-pure whites were never more than 1% of the population at most, and that may be by stretching definitions.

The native Filipino-Austronesian type doesn't look much like Amerindians however. And then there is a very great deal of Chinese in Filipinos, as should be expected as the ancient root of the population is in South China, besides a long history of Chinese settlement. The biggest visible differences between modern Cantonese and Filipinos is skin color, the Filipinos being notably darker and typically with much broader noses.

The nose indeed is a bone of contention, a common expression of class hatred is to claim to want to tweak the noses of the upper class.

But that mix of Austronesian, Han Chinese and European generates considerable variety.

A very native type, and very representative - Filipina Native

The optimum, perhaps, of the pure Filipina look - Malkin is very "india" in the old Spanish racial system.
Michelle Malkin

A typical mestiza - Lea Salonga

It’s not that Tosenstein resigns, it’s that is he lawyering up?

Bob Loblaw said...

I can't imagine what Rosenstein could have done to destroy his credibility more thoroughly than conspiring to surreptitiously tape the president with an eye to making some kind of 25th amendment play.

Drago said...

Bob Loblaw, you have to remember that obama and his lefty/LLR deep state allies were convinced that Trump was guilty of so many things all it would take would be to glance Trumps way and the crimes would fall like manna from heaven.

And then all would be right with the world, they would all be heroes for all time, the books and movies about them would write themselves!!!

But a funny thing happened on the way to the impeachmant/25th Amendment forum: all the crimes were on their side even if they were able to twist the laws and the rules to target Trump associates.

So then you are Rosenstein...and there you sit....

What to do, what to do?....
