Effectual Flake!

I called him "ineffectual," but no! He was effectual. He was efflaketual.

"Senate GOP agrees to one-week delay on Kavanaugh confirmation to allow for FBI probe."

Nice graphic depiction by Drudge. It's got a great-masters-oil-painting feeling to it. I'm thinking of Caravaggio...

... and Rembrandt...

I see that Ford, through her attorney, is rejecting the scope of the FBI investigation. That strikes me as a step or two past presumptuous.

The Ana standing committee has been playing games since the 80s remember how they treated Bork among others.

Jebus, whats the use of having a republican majority that's also run by democrats? Fuck these guys.

@GK1, the problem is the thin 51-49 GOP majority, which forces the leadership to bow to (dare I say it?) flakey single members of the caucus. We need a bigger majority, at least 55 - 45 and ideally more than that to get something done.

Ive been away from media all day, But I did hear Grassely live during the orations state that the "letter from the ABA" was in fact a letter from the President, on ABA letter head. No committee drafted the letter, its one mans opinion. So how is this breaking news? (and why is it a surprise lawyers are sneaky little fuckers intent on deceiving the population)

DEMOCRATS-- They still got it, baybee! Emmett Till, lynched over a white woman he didn't whistle at; Clarence Thomas, lynched over a woman he didn't harrass; Brett Kavanaugh, lynched over a woman he never met. The Democrats only have the one trick, but they love to play it...

Of course the scope will be rejected. The goal was never to have an investigation, only have the delay.

If, after the review is done and the status is unchanged, and Flake and Murkowski/Collins still vote no or all three vote "present", then they will have written their names in the book of dishonor. I could have understood them saying this morning that they were voting no on the floor killing the nomination, and following through, but to force a delay like this and still vote no would about as dishonorable as it gets in Senate politics.

It didn't take long for the bait and switch to settle in.

And someone else pointed out something yesterday that learned about Swetnick- she was a client of Katz's law firm in a sexual harrassment complaint. This was why Swetnick had to go to Avenatti- it would have looked bad for a former client of Katz's firm to show up with an allegation while Katz is representing Ford- even morons would have been able to figure out that this was all invented accusations, and probably all invented by Katz and her team.

Can anyone tell me when we can begin to look at the whole sordid history of using "recovered memorys" to launch investigations? I thought this was all soundly beaten to a pulp back in the early 2000's as being notoriously unreliable and close to down right quackery.

Dear corrupt left, go F yourselves said...

Swetnik's credibility is zero.

But you know, Flake will be enticed by the nice wink he receives from Chris Coons, his good pal, and he will be assured by good pal Coons that the FBI probe will be fair.. and timely.

Dear corrupt left, go F yourselves said...

"recovered memory" only matters on team D.

All of Bill Clinton's accusers are liars. Right? Hillary and her press and all the moral degenerates of Hollywood told us so. and so too is Keith Ellison's
ex GF. Even though she has much much more than "recovered memories". She has medical records.

Flake and Merkowski are both idiots. Fools.

Switch to corrutocrat and leave us the hell alone.

Merkowski is only seated because she swiped her seat - ala Al Franken. well a bit different- but with party affiliation-switching shenanigans and daddy's help.
Alaska needs to send her packing.

Ford has rejected the one week limit. But who can blame her? She's used to jerking around US Senators and getting her way. Why would she stop now?

In-Effectual Flake!

Funny, the Clintons never sued *any* of them for slander or libel.
I wonder why?

No matter how this turns out, I hope K sues his accusers into the ground. If he does, I'll donate a grand to his GoFundMe page. Per suit.

@Birkel, believe it or not, Wyatt Earp carried a Smith & Wesson Model 3 chambered in .44 rimfire. You can see his gun, and Doc Holliday's coach gun, in this video. Start at about 10 seconds into the video to avoid a commercial.

Coons and Flake left their meeting with Coons patting Flake on the back - up until the cameras were on. Then Coons dropped the pretense. There will be no time limit or scope boundaries. Thanks Jeff, I’ve got lunch next time.

Coons also left the door open for more accusations to roll in - with more FBI investigations.

Flake is a fool.

The $64,000 question.
Well, I don't think it includes finding that Blasey Ford made up her story in any way.
Wonder what the FBI thinks of being ordered to abet in a charade game by the same people who are loudly denouncing them for playing charades.

Chuck - interesting.
and disheartening.

The left corrupt everything they touch.

There's actually a law for that!

O'Sullivan's First Law. Which tells us that, "All organizations that are not actually right-wing will over time become left-wing." And it is true. Name a big organization that began as ostensibly non-partisan; anything other than actually, determinedly conservative. And over time, they all become liberal. Harvard. The Episcopal Church USA. The Ford Foundation. The United Nations. NBC. NPR. The Washington Post. General Motors. The National Basketball Association. The University of Wisconsin.

All of them; organized decades or centuries ago with no thought of modern liberal politics. But now, every one of them has a policy for LGBTQ tolerance; and a diversity outreach department; and an affirmative action program; and all are exquisitely sensitive to even the tiniest suggestion from modern political correctness.

The great John O'Sullivan was right.

Flake is a fucking tool. He got rolled by the Democrats, giving them a civility they neither deserved nor would reciprocate. He's Charlie Brown, certain that this time the Democrat Lucy won't pull the football away as he runs forward to kick it. He's a goddamned fool.

If you give in to temper tantrums (e.g., harassing Flake in an elevator), you get more of them. Every parent knows this. Is this what we want as a country?

stephen cooper said...

Actually, Quaestor, anybody with a few months of study of fine arts knows very well who Caravaggio is. And of course ordinary people who never studied art but who like art also know who Caravaggio is, most of the time. It is sort of like, if you study jazz, you know who Louis Armstrong is. If you listen to jazz on the radio, you know who Louis Armstrong is . so

1 - relevant

Seems pretty obvious that if Ford and her atty won't cooperate with a 1-week investigation, then Flake and the other morons should agree to just vote to confirm right away. And if that means Mitch McConnell first has to shake his jowls at them until they scream for mercy, well, politics ain't cornhole.

--I wondered about that here when barely alluded to by a Dem in a question to Ford.
It so disappeared I think they must be fake..which even still would be a story of interest..at least a little.

Birkel said...

Althouse pretended to believe this was about more than RvW.
She believes PPvCasey settled the issue and calls Republicans losers.
So she fights for a bad decision and hates the 10th Amendment.

But the issue is whether the country survives another two generations without
1) A very uncivil war,
2) An effective bankruptcy

Those are the stakes.

So..Chrissy will get her book/movie deal..and so will Flake.

I can't believe the democrats are falling into this trap.

The FBI is going to investigate.

The first thing they will do is ask Ford When it happened.

Then they will ask where it happened.

Then they will ask for a list of corroborating witnesses.

Everyone already knows the answers to all of those questions.

Then they will say "We are done here."

The democrats will yell and scream and stamp their feet and piss off even more voters.

The best part will be if Murkowski/Collins vote and they are kicked out of the party and Kavanaugh is renominated to be voted on after the election. Flake and Corker are already gone.

The traitors are slowly getting weeded out and their will be new Republican senators from Missouri, West Virginia, Florida, Iowa, Montana, North Dakota at a minimum to vote for Kavanaugh in January.

One of the women from the elevator:

“Archila told the AP that she was sexually assaulted when she was 5 years old by a teenager when she and her family lived in Colombia. She said she didn’t tell anyone before this week.”

The problem is you can’t have a situation where the rule of law is suspended because women didn’t report crimes four decades ago. We don’t go through a national moment where for a brief time any woman can accuse any man and convict him with her statements.

We’re not having a #metoo wholesale destruction of men, and we’re not going to single out a few to ritually sacrifice to the goddess of justice.

The point of Dr. Ford’s testimony is that you report crimes when they happen. And if you don’t, you live with them forever. That is the choice you make in life, and we need to do a better job teaching it to our sons and daughters.

DanTheMan said...

Ford is Lucy with the football.
Flake is Charlie Brown.

Did he never read Peanuts as a kid?

Kevin said...

The #metoo movement needs a national scalp. Someone to stand in for all the people who did terrible things to millions of women and will never be held to account.

And the harder that person fights against the accusations, the more they claim their innocence and stand behind the protections of the current legal structure, the more satisfying their ultimate destruction becomes. The less likely it was they could have done it, the more women can be believed and redeemed.

Without a “no” vote after this FBI investigation, they will be even more enraged.

Thomas Wictor got banned from Twitter last night. I don't do Twitter but did follow his threads on threadreaderapp.com

Before he was banned, he had an interesting thread on the new fbi investigation. Basically he thinks it is a trap by, not for, president trump.

1 Ford will be interviewed under oath and off camera. The fbi can go a bit harder on her than in Thursday's spectacle.

Ditto bk ok course, too.

2 she may have already perjured hetself and the fbi report may so note. At the least it will point out the inconsistencies in het story.

3 she may refuse to cooperate which would be game over

4 if the fbi finds no evidence, and at this point how can they? We need to go with presumption of innocence for BK.

5 if the fbi finds no evidence, bk is, effectively, cleared.

Now the party leaders can lean on repos hard to confirm.

More importantly some demmies will be able to use the clearance as cover.

I miss Thomas Wictor and his Judas Goats theory already. He was sometimes off the wall but always interesting.

Christopher Buckley is a helluva comic novelist.

One of his books was Supreme Injustice. Basic plot was that after going through 2 attempts to nominate a new justice he nominates a female TV judge (like Judge Judy)

She gets confirmed and hijinks ensue. She actually turns out pretty well.

If bk fails, perhaps president trump should nominate judge Judy.
