"Just went to a southern Virginia Walmart. I could SMELL the Trump support...."

A text from Peter Strzok, dated August 26, 2016. From a list of "text messages of a political nature commenting on Trump and Clinton" by Strzok and Lisa Page quoted in the IG report at pages 399-400.

Also:
February 12, 2016, Page: “I’m no prude, but I’m really appalled by this. So you don’t have to go looking (in case you hadn’t heard), Trump called him the p-word. The man has no dignity or class. He simply cannot be president. With a Slur for Ted Cruz, Donald Trump Further Splits Voters http://nyti.ms/1XoICkO.”
She's no prude, but she can't write the word "pussy" in a text to her paramour? She had to write "p-word." And:
March 3, 2016, Page: “Also did you hear [Trump] make a comment about the size of his d*ck earlier? This man cannot be president.”
She can't write out "dick" in a text to her dick-having sexual partner?!
March 12, 2016: Page forwarded an article about a “far right” candidate in Texas, stating, “[W]hat the f is wrong with people?”...
Oh, for fuck's sake.
July 18, 2016, Page: “...Donald Trump is an enormous d*uche.”
But enough about Page. I want to talk about Strzok and his detection of odor among the deplorable people who shop at Walmart... in southern Virginia.

I went to Home Depot yesterday and commented on how bad everyone looked. I attributed the awful looks to the heat, but... with more data points....

It's nonrecreational shopping — drudgery. And it's in a setting where people see no need to look alert and energetic. They're not thinking about being looked at. It's probably a little wrong — unkind — to look at them and think anything about them. They're in public, but it's not social at all.

The odd thing is that in situations like that, if you do end up talking with a stranger, their looks will change radically. They will brighten and look younger and less depressed and certainly not blank at all. So if you're passively looking around, you are not getting to see the real people who are there.

Original Mike said...

I didn’t realize until yesterday, and I hope I have this timeline right, that Strzok’s “We’ll stop it” was 8 days after the supposed start of the Russian investigation and 4 days before his “insurance policy” text.

Ann Althouse said...

"I thought it was just in the title."

Well, I'm sure I'll get retaliated against when it's in the title, but I believe that lots of things get retaliation, and this post, with several bad words, will, I believe, get targeted. I'll let you know. I receive a notice in the email telling me when I've sinned against Goog.

Shouting Thomas said...

Home Depot's clientele is DIYers and contractors.

They're dressed to tear things up and get dirty.

You're misinterpreting entirely. They are there to play a role that is appealing to them, the guy who's dirty from doing yard work or renovating his kitchen.

What looks bad to you looks good to them.

And he's a Park Avenue billionaire who loves WWE and is in the WWE Hall of Fame. When I met a white woman meatpacker who was all in for Trump, I knew something was up. And I posted it on Power Line; not the NYT or WaPo.

Point Shaver Peter and his girlfriend believe Trump is not of their class and therefore the law must be perverted and disobeyed to defeat him.

So, is it OK to note that white working class neighborhoods smell different than upper class neighborhood? They do, of course. More cigarettes, gasoline, and fried food. I'm pretty sure that it's taboo to note that Asian, Hispanic, African-American neighborhoods all smell different.

Quite often when I go to a store like Home Depot, I'm in the middle of a project and need something that I didn't know about in advance. Perhaps I broke something and don't have a replacement or I opened up something and found damage I didn't know was there. I'm not going to get cleaned up just to go to a hardware store. Getting cleaned up, changing, then changing back into my work clothes can easily waste an hour.

The Daily Caller website has published an article titled Russian Who Claim FBI Ties Offered to Sell Clinton Dirt, Trump Associates Claim, written by Chuck Ross, who has been one of the best journalists writing about the RussiaGate hoax.

The article begins:

[quote]

Two Trump campaign associates say they were approached in May 2016 by a Russian national who offered to sell damaging information about Hillary Clinton for $2 million. But the Russian, who went by the alias Henry Greenberg, also worked for years as an FBI informant, say the former campaign associates, Michael Caputo and Roger Stone.

The outreach by Greenberg, whose real name is Gennadiy Vasilievich Vostretsov, took on new significance for Caputo and Stone after revelations that the FBI used an informant named Stefan Halper to contact three other Trump campaign associates.

“Mr. Stone believes it is likely that Mr. Greenberg was actively working on behalf of the FBI at the time of their meeting with the intention of entrapping Mr. Stone and to infiltrate and compromise the Trump effort,” Grant Smith, a lawyer for Stone, wrote in a letter Friday to the House Intelligence Committee. ...

Greenberg, who lives in Florida, first contacted Caputo in May 2016 through one of the Trump aide’s business partners. ...

[end quote]

I recommend that everyone read the article.

Agree 100% here with Begley. Most of the Republicans I know who didn't or don't support Trump did so on a class basis. They hanker for Pat Nixon and her honest cloth coat. They are most comfortable with upper middle class like themselves. Trump is the crassest of the mega rich showing the complete lack of taste that they so despise in the nouveau riche. I am reminded of the Rodney Dangerfield character in Caddyshack. And he talks to a portion of the population that much of the traditional Republican Party would hire to do handy work, but never invite into the house otherwise.

And the problem with the last election was that Crooked Hillary, despite having married down, to Arkansas trailer trash, was solidly middle class. Really upper middle class, esp in her choice of colleges. She is one of ours. Trump isn't. She could be one of kids down the block growing up, in a solidly upper middle class neighborhood, now grown up. Trump couldn't.

I haven't been to a Walmart (um, ever), but inferring from Home Depot or Lowes, I don't think the people on the subway in New York are appreciably better. You get some pretty run-down looking people no matter where you look in the US, because there are very, very few environments here where people feel they have to dress nicely. If anything, out of the public spaces I've been in, in the US, the DC metro is probably the one where people present the most nicely, largely because in the mornings and the evenings, it's all professionals and interns going to and from work and even if people aren't dressed fashionably, they all have to dress professionally. I'd rate the crowd as significantly more presentable than the New York subway. In fairness to NYC, though, I recall the crowd at the Metropolitan Museum in New York being generally pretty nice too, probably better than the Smithsonian crowds in DC. Of course, concerts and fancy restaurants where you have to pay a lot of money are in a different category, because people generally dress up for that sort of thing.

This isn't the sort of thing most people care about (either in the US at large or in the Althouse comments section specifically), because it's not especially relevant. But I do notice this sort of thing.

Try the buses in and around DC. Whole different sensation.

I actually ride the bus quite a lot. The DC buses went through a significant upgrade, oh, maybe 7 or 8 years ago? Ridership on the 30-series lines (incl. 38B) is not too bad, better turned out than the New York bus riders the handful of times I've taken the bus in NYC (for the crosstown routes -- I forget the number). A bit further out, eh, might be different, sure. I've taken the 5A out to Dulles, but that's not really representative for obvious reasons. I still don't think residents of the greater DC metro area come off badly in comparison to New Yorkers.

”Not bookstore shopping. 'tis life's blood!”

It’s funny. I detest shopping, but don’t consider bookstore shopping as shopping.

I stand corrected.

Hear! Hear! How dare those smelly Walmart employees endeavor to become less dependent? String them up, we say! Throw their ungrateful carcasses into the blazing maw of Goog!

And Peter Stork is a beta male who made it big.

Hasta La-Bye Bye to them both!

Cook has a shitload of sympathy for the poor. But only so long as they dutifully remain poor.

But she looks like a bag-over-the-head cunt.

Do you ever go to Walmart?

This made me laugh because last night I sent my sister in to buy me a honeydew while I sat in my big black Cadillac in air-conditioned comfort. My excuse was that my 90 yo dad didn't want to limp in too, and she was going in anyway for cat food.

For some reason, they're the only place in town with edible honeydew (Aldi had good ones but stopped carrying them last fall). Until Aldi opened, they were the only ones with decent celery.

I had some (former) friends over for dinner (the stopped talking to me after Trump!). They moved here to NM from Oregon, and they got real excited when they saw me pull out some Tillamook butter. They were thrilled! They said it was the best and they couldn't here and where in the world did I find it!?

WalMart.

"THEY SOLD OUT! THEY SHOULDN'T SELL TO WALMART! IT IS TOO GOOD FOR THEM..." I pointed put I was "them..."

I'm surprised they were 'friends' with me as long as they were.

Wal-Mart could make them become less dependent by paying them enough so they didn't have to be encouraged by Wal-Mart to seek public assistance (while they're employed at W-M)!!

Robert Cook said...

Every dollar of public assistance paid to a Wal-Mart employee is a dollar less Wal-Mart has to pay their employees. We are subsidizing Wal-Mart's employees. We are paying for Wal-Mart to become richer even if we don't shop there.

Quaestor said...

I know! Let's force Walmart to pay their hourly people $100 an hour, then they become taxpayers and not tax consumers!

BTW, you must be quite elderly, Cook. Walmart dropped the hyphen long ago.

Robert Cook said...

Responding with childish hyperbolic sarcasm does not change the reality that many of Walmart's employees are paid so poorly they have to supplement their wages with (and they qualify for) public assistance. The Walton family--billionaires all--are picking your pockets and mine.

I wouldn't know about the hyphen as I do not shop at Walmart.

Nope. Reality is many people dependent upon public assistance supplement their income by working at WalMart, thus lowering the amount of assistance provided, while gaining valuable workplace experience.

You can spin it that way, but no.
