"[My pussy hat] covers our John Wayne bust in our front hallway. I feel ever more depressed and angry when I look at it."

"Every day I see it and think of my granddaughters, who also marched, and their future in this America, where Donald Trump is truly destroying all we stand for. I like the color though."

From "The Second Lives of Pussy Hats/One year later, these Women’s March symbols have found new purpose as stuffed toys and talismans (when they’re not being worn, that is)." (NYT).

Even by prog TDS standards, this is slightly over the top. What, exactly, is Trump "truly destroying"?

Besides prog self-regard and assumptions of superiority, that is.

Althouse likes to focus on the extreme reactions to Trump because this makes the local punters feel good about themselves, but this is not his main problem. Those people were never voting for him. His problem is the large number of moderate voters who are turned off by his BS. They have tuned him out, and nothing he has to say can really change that at this point.

The narrative. The ball of yarns. The source of their status, capital, and control. They have been exposed as bigots. Sanctimonious hypocrites, who are a bad influence for women, men, girls, boys, and babies, too.

n.n said...

Granddaughters, not grandsons? Telling.

The correct... the right answer is men and women are equal in rights and complementary in nature.

The female chauvinists destroyed their credibility when they denied women's agency through witch hunts, denied men's rights through witch trials, and denied lives deemed unworthy by placing conception before choice.

Stop projecting and start reflecting.

I have to wonder how many people the writer had to hear from before discovering the one with the John Wayne bust.

ARM, you're right about the pussy hat wearers' not being Trump voters, but not so sure you're reading the moderates all that well. I'd give voters more benefit of the doubt - perhaps even to evaluate the policy moves and mostly blow off the tweets.

And yet the majority of white American women voted for Trump. 53%. So, the people wearing pink pussy hats are not the majority of Americans with pink pussies. Perhaps the people who act like dicks are not the majority of the people who have dicks?

This is how they produce the Tucker Carlson show on Fox. They open with a story like this. A third-tier liberal; sometimes somebody who wrote something screechy and laughable in a student newspaper, or who wrote something outrageous on Twitter. Or who gave an outlandish interview. And Tucker spends the first 12 minutes of his show ridiculing them. With lots of sarcasm, and eye-rolling, and face-making, that is probably merited but for the fact that ithe whole thing probably didn’t merit the attention I begin with. It was all just set up as a figurative punching bag for the Tucker Carlson audience.

I actually think that Althouse would make a great producer for Tucker Carlson.

This also describes much of the MSM coverage of Trump, and for that matter all Republicans, as required. There are hundreds of them, in the MSM, for every Tucker Carlson.

Still not getting through that this is a propaganda war, and truth, whether small details or large processes, is irrelevant in itself. It is at best ammunition. The game is not what you think it is.

Perspective is all that matters.

The Dems generic ballot advantage for 2018 has been cut in half. +13 to now +6.

Black and Hispanic males are supporting Trump in larger numbers.

I've always said Trump is a true threat to the Dems advantage with black voters. His personality (brash, money loving, women loving) is appealing to many blacks and Hispanics. He should be out in the minority communities fighting for their votes. If he can peel off 10-15% additional minorities the Dems are finished.

Now will he do that or shot himself in the foot. Who knows. We're dealing with Trump and all things possible.

Wrong again. Trump is a sanctuary from the insanity the left is engaging in. Every idiotic over reaction to any and everything by the left pushes more people into his camp . Normals care what he does not what he says. This woman is an hysteric. Obviously. Normals are not hysterical. Normals take it in and go about their business. They absorb their losses stoically. Not hysterically.

On Saturday, gullible women everywhere will stage a march to protest what abortion monger Kaylie Hanson Long of Naral has called “the worst [administration] we’ve ever seen for women and families.” Well, maybe. If women's well-being centers around their ability to kill the children in their wombs. But what about other indicators — like women in positions of power? Trump has appointed an awful lot of them. Nikki Haley, ambassador to the United Nations; Elaine Chao, secretary of Transportation; Kirstjen Nielsen, secretary of the Department of Homeland Security; Dr. Heather Wilson, secretary of the Air Force; Sarah Sanders; Betsy DeVos, secretary of Education... I could go on and on. Or consider the jobs boom and the skyrocketing economy, which help all people of either sex, or tax reform which is already paying dividends in terms of jobs and bonuses but will also start turning up in paychecks at almost every level. Or consider the defeat of ISIS under Trump — ISIS who sold women into slavery. And yet women have allowed the Democrats — which of course includes the news media — to create a feeling state of hysterical outrage and victimhood that overrides the reality of Trump's success. Women don't like Trump. He smirks. He's rude. He spent most of his life as a free-wheeling billionaire who ran beauty contests and took every advantage you would expect of that situation.

Um, they must be upset that their retirement savings have skyrocketed in record time.

Of course, those moderates who depend on government assistance must be terrified by the prospect that they won't have all the wonderful toys that people who work and invest have been able to purchase. After all, they are entitled.

Unfortunately for them, the Women's March coincided and was roughly co-located with the violence and vandalism of the various groups -- e.g., BLM, Disrupt J20, antifa (presumably, though anyone can put on black hooded jackets and black face masks), and everybody else who came to Washington to register their dislike of the results of the election using punches, fire, and thrown rocks -- and this didn't and still doesn't help their cause. It's very easy to conflate the Women's March with the violence when (1) the organizers of the Women's March failed to strongly condemn the violence and vandalism, and (2) Ashley Judd's speech emphasized how she and the other marchers were "nasty women."

So no sympathy from our household towards the pussy hat brigade. Embrace the devil, and you're apt to find your garments singed.

You know, ARM could be right. But whether the voters still feel turned off by Trump's vulgarity when they see a booming economy and more money in their paychecks is still to be determined. The notion that "nothing he has to say can really change that at this point" seems as though it could be quite premature.

ARM makes a mistake, though, when calls what Trump does "BS." It isn't BS and it really is working.

SHHH! Let them continue to think it's the national popular vote that decides the election.

But seriously... Why do people tout Hillary's popular vote "win" as if it were meaningful?

At the risk of belaboring the obvious: If the popular vote alone, rather than the electoral college, decided the election, the outcome of the popular vote would've been very different. For example, Hillary haters in deep blue states-- trust me, they exist-- that stayed home because Trump had no chance to win in their state would've turned out to vote for Trump. Likewise for Trump haters in deep red states. And since Trump would've campaigned differently if the popular vote alone decided the election, Hillary still would've lost because she was a lousy campaigner.

Last year I had a number of conversation with young relatives (20-30 year olds). All but one evolved into a discussion of the kinds of histories they ought to read. The basic problem is that they have no knowledge of history, and so no resilience against the hysterical "news" pushed at them every day.
