Drudge attributes superhuman powers to Trump.

Too mean? How hurt is she? Not that hurt:
Looks like i have an acute facet (spinal joint) dysfunction. I got compressed on the 6th gate and my back seized up. Rested and had a lot of therapy tonight. We will see how I feel tomorrow and then decide if I will race....
What did she say about Trump? Asked if she'd do the traditional visit to the White House after the Olympic, she'd said "absolutely not." Later, she clarified: "I was asked my opinion and I gave it. I mean, it's not necessarily my place to be sticking my nose in politics, but as an athlete I do have a voice." She also said that at the Olympics she would "represent the people of the United States, not the president." She didn't mention Trump, but she did say she admired Colin Kaepernick, which the linked article (to Fox News) connects to Trump, in that Trump has tweeted about Kaepernick. But Kaepernick's protest wasn't about Trump. If I remember correctly, Kaepernick protest is about race and the police (something we don't hear much about anymore).

I admit to a moment of schadenfreude since she wasn't really badly hurt. I love the Winter Olympics and downhill skiing in particular so I wish these athletes would KEEP THEIR STUPID MOUTHS SHUT! I can't root for Lindsey any longer. Fortunately, she's not the only American woman in the hunt. And she is very prone to injury.

She made it about politics when she said she wouldn't visit the White House. Isn't a visit to the nation's capital greater than any temporary sitting president?

Well, she is right, the president does not represent the people of the US. Under the Constitution s/he is not supposed to. The president's job is to preside over the states united.

Far too many people forget that the president's sole sworn duty is to protect and defend the people of the US.

Wrong.

The president swears a solemn oath to

"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."

The Constitution comes first. Without it, there are no other protections of any value.

The people of the United States are represented by their Congressional representatives.

Pro tip: Read the US Constitution, Lindsey.

I had never heard of this person before know and likely won't remember their name in a day or two. Apparently they're a Winter Olympian (judging by the comments downhill skiing) who doesn't like Trump or wanted to signal their virtue. I hope that their injury is as minor as they make it out to be and they make a speedy and full recovery but I wasn't planning on watching the Winter Olympics anyway and comments like this just makes me even less like likely to do so.

She also said that at the Olympics she would "represent the people of the United States, not the president."

What's that phrase again..."Not in my name"? Yeah, something like that.

Lindsay Vonn is a great skier who seems to have a bit of a weird personal life. She tried to attach herself to Tim Tebow, then she was with Tiger in the aftermath of his messy sex scandal and divorce. After a lifetime of troubleshooting technical and business problems, you learn that "things that have nothing to do with each other" usually have quite a lot to do with each other.

Process often creates technical problems. Personnel often create process problems. Technical issues often have downstream business impact; business problems often feed back into technical. Regulation wording often enough creates technical constraints. Etc. and etc.

Its all one piece, and the more you know the better it all fits in your head.

In this case she was asked, no doubt, due to an MSM agenda to create a political atmosphere, to poison the well in Winter Olympics coverage. This is quite an obvious suspicion if one has had enough experience of the MSM SOP. They have a political propaganda line to push and would love to frame the Winter Olympics coverage to suit.

I am betting that the majority of those most interested in watching her lean left, or at least voted for someone besides Trump, if they voted at all. It is somewhat a snobby sport, something that is mostly practiced by the rich, the upper middle class, and young outdoorsy types. Spent a number of years in Jered Polis’s (first married gay member of Congress) district. District has three research universities, and at least 7 ski areas. He could be caught buggering Congressional pages in the cloakroom, and get re-elected. His constituents are prime Lindsey Vonn fans, and many would be appalled if she went to the WH with Trump there.

“33 is old for a downhill racer. Vonn ought to hang it up before she takes a fall so bad that all the king's horses and all the king's men cannot put Lindsey Vonn back together again.”

Definitely not old for men. A lot of the best male downhillers don’t hit their peak until their 30s. Slalom is typically the young person’s game, with their faster reflexes, etc. in Downhill, and really Super G, experience counts more than reflexes. Women do mature faster than men, and peak earlier in Alpine events. Kinda maybe like the difference between NFL quarterbacks and receivers.

The thing that is going to take out Vonn are injuries. Cumulative injuries - you can get over one, or two, but after awhile, they take away your edge, and Vonn is competing with the very best women skiers in the world. She was, at least, one of a couple best in the world in speed events. It doesn’t take much to drop her back to the top 20, or even top 50, and then the US team would have to replace her with someone who wasn’t as beaten up, as injured over the years.

This is the early stages of a very similar process that we saw regarding the booking of performers for the Trump inauguration. Yes. In this regard, the Olympics are very much pro-football. We try to watch the athletes who genuinely do their best during their brief careers, but few like the grandstanding political showboats; we secretly hope they fail.

The problem with her answer is that it unnecessary politicizes any White House visit. If you don’t want to go, don’t go. Say you had a conflict and leave it at that.

When you start making protests you’re saying that everyone invited must either out themselves as pro- or anti-Trump.

You take away the option of civility - for everyone, not just yourself.

More I think of it, the more I think that this injury may be career ending. At least in Downhill, though maybe not for Super is G. Problem is that the name of the game in Downhill is handling G forces. She can’t avoid hitting compressions at speed. And, if she even thinks about doing so, she has lost her edge. Because every other woman in the top seed will be hitting that compression full out. How do you heal back injuries like that?

I only ran Downhill a couple times when I was ski racing, up through college. Too much adrenaline for me. Not only is it a wild ride, comparable to the best roller coaster rides, but was the most exhausting event for me - my legs would be vibrating like crazy, while trying to make them do what needed to be done. Next brother quit racing after college but started back up again at maybe 30, and has been doing it since. He was always too light in HS and college to do well at DH, but had to learn to do it decently well for a chance at the combined title for his age bracket. His stated goal is to hit 70 mph at 70 (he knws a guy who did that) which isn’t that far away. Still not big enough to win, but just showing up and finishing is enough to get enough DH points to have a chance of the combined title. And this year, he is at the bottom of his age bracket. we shall see.

Because her answer seems like a non-sequitur unnecessary jab at the president.

If the reporter asked a question "Will you represent the President?" and someone can point that out I will retract all of mean-ness on this issue. Otherwise it just seems like a way for her to virtual signal, a way for her to be mean first.
