2 people watching the election results — on 2 different channels, at different locations — just told me they can tell the newspeople already know Roy Moore will win.

I wasn't watching the election results yet. I was finishing that last post.

Meade was watching Fox News, and he just started talking about how he could tell by the way they were talking that they are seeing some sort of information — which they're not revealing — that shows them Roy Moore will win.

A minute later, I got a text from my son Chris, saying "The tone of the punditry on CNN makes me think they know he'll win."

UPDATE: NYT declares Jones the winner!

@Dickin'Bimbos, link please? My information is that Bannon is the sole reason Moore finished first instead of third. Brooks would have clobbered Jones.

As I said earlier G-D loving folks have many reasons not to vote for Moore besides his trolling habits, and the folks seemed to have understood that.

holdfast said...

Hopefully the GOP learned not to nominate loons. Even without the questionable allegations, Moore was a weirdo.

Unfortunately, the Dems learned that last minute slime attacks using admitted forgeries work. That's a bad lesson, and I have no doubt that they will apply it again.

Now that Moore lost, it's time to turn up the heat and the other Dem-Gropers.

"All Republicans lost big tonight, everything on their agenda is now in jeopardy."

You mean, TRUMPS agenda is in jeopardy. The McConnell/Ryan/National Review/Bill Kristol agenda isn't hurt at all.

That's why all those people worked to defeat Moore. They don't care if the R's are a majority or a minority. That's not their agenda. Its all about the donors $$$ - and they didn't want Moore.

No, we lost it when Moore won the nomination.

Riiight. Because now Steve Bannon is going to come up with some even better candidates!

http://popcrush.com/files/2015/10/gaga-kiss.gif

Seriously; what is there to "regret"? With 51 votes in the Senate, Donald Trump basically has to beg Jeff Flake for anything, and everything. And Jeff Flake is supposed to "regret" that?

MacMacConnell said...

I wonder if Alabama Republicans will dawn black mask and form a RESISTANCE or accept the results of an election?

Very disappointing, especially on the matter of victory against "the swamp".

Still, I have always been a pessimist.

Anyway, a short term prediction tomorrow - the S&P and Dow will be down, perhaps significantlty, and may be well off all week. This based on my theory that the markets like Trump and react badly to his setbacks.

Congrads to the Washington Post and Mitch McConnell.

You wanted an liberal Democrat from Alabama and you got one.

Of course, you had to lie and smear a good man to do it. But whatver.

Poor Inga thinks I'm a loser, when she's the one who thinks falsely accusing others of pedophilia for political advantage is perfectly OK for Democratic operatives and for her own self. I think that makes her more of a loser, morally, ethically, and intellectually, than I could ever hope to achieve if I were trying to lose. I may be a weevil, but she's a dung beetle, who seems to enjoy being a coprophagic ninny - and in public!

I was hoping the Trump victory represented the turning of the tide.

Now, i see it was just a "one-off" almost miracle victory.

51% of the people (including 60% of women) will do whatever the Power elite want.

Oh, well maybe things will be better in 2018, although I doubt it.

Dr Weevil said...

No, this is the time for child abusers to bugger off out of politics and (preferably) into jail. That means Menendez for one, and it does not mean Moore, who is entirely innocent, as anyone who bothered to look at the 'evidence' against him already knows.

Poor stupid Inga can't tell the difference between someone who's "mad" at her and someone who's expressing contempt for her dung-beetle vileness. Will she ever apologize for accusing a fellow commenter of "diddling 14 year olds"? Will she ever understand that that very accusation shows the stupidity of the idea that mere accusations of pedophilia are proof of anything? Or will she go on proudly posting comments here, even knowing that the rest of us can see the shit smeared all over her snout?

I am a pessimist, as I said.

Six months ago I hedged, putting as much as possible that I could extract from my assets, in "safe" investments abroad. I dont expect to make money on this, this is just my attempt at prudence, a fall-back, just in case. I am not counting on our various pensions, and besides, its there for the kids if they need a grub-stake in a different country.

I see very serious problems for the US, if reform is forestalled. These problems are a bit closer on the horizon, tonight. I am not going to pull a Krugman, but tonight was not good news. For anyone.

I'm glad Inga has nothing to distract her now from loudly agitating to have *actual proven* pedophile Menendez removed from the Senate.

The Reckoning can claim Moore's scalp, but the carnage, to date anyway, is mostly among the liberals. There's lots more to come. The Dems cannot move on Trump without first reckoning with the legacy of Bill and Hillary......Moore was accused of some heavy duty crap. The allegations against Trump are less than those against Franken and way less than those against Clinton.....I don't think Trump's sex history is in any way admirable, but he is far less hypocritical than the Clintons and the Dems demanding his resignation. You can give Roman Polanski a standing ovation and you can disapprove of Trump, but you can't do both.

Dr Weevil said...

Apparently Inga thinks refusing to answer questions, or to apologize for lies counts as "squashing" the person asking the questions and calling her on the lies. Oh well, keep on rolling that big ball of shit, Inga! It's no more or less than the rest of us expect of a dung beetle.

Inga...Allie Oop said...

Poor pathetic insect, just got squashed and had his little wiggly legs pulled off and he’s still buzzing mad.

That last minute push by Dems to force out Franken was pure political genius. It caused a small segment of Repubs in Alabama to stay home.

Oh well - politics ain't beanbag

Big Mike said...

Hopefully the GOP learned not to nominate loons.

Some of us learned that in 2010 when Christine O'Donnell was the nominee in Deleware, and again when Todd Akin and Richard Mourdock were the GOP nominees in red states like Missouri and Indiana. What Trump and Mitch McConnell could do with a 55 - 45 margin in the Senate! But people like Mac McConnell (commenting here) and Steve Bannon are ineducable.

Qwinn said...

I'm just trying to figure out why Inga hasn't responded to any questions about her plans to bring down Menendez.

It's a mystery.

Well, I suppose we can let her enjoy her victory tonight. But bright and early tomorrow I expect to see a dozen cut and paste articles every day for the next 3 months detailing all the evidence that Menendez actually fucked underage sex slaves until pedophile Menendez has been removed from the Senate! Do it for the children, Inga!

Big Mike said...

@holdfast and @Bay Area Guy, a minor prediction on my part. Al Franken changes his mind and decides not to resign now that Moore is defeated. Gillibrand walks back her previous comments against him, citing new evidence.

Dr Weevil said...

I've seen reports on twitter that the Washington Post and CNN are working on a story about 20-40 sexual predators in Congress - I assume they've gotten hold of the list of the lawmakers whose depredations cost $17,000,000 in taxpayer money to pay off. We may be having a whole lot of special elections in the next few months, and I'm guessing that there will be a lot more Democrats than Republicans on the list, though there will no doubt be a few of the latter. Not to mention that human mortality will likely affect the 51-49 Senate ratio in unsurprising (McCain) and surprising ways over the next year.

MacMacConnell said...

On the bright side Franken has to actually resign now.

buwaya said...

And I think you all have more than enough guns as it is.

glenn said...

Well, he didn’t. Now we know the Repubs are too dumb to govern.

Howard said...

Good point, BAG. I thought Franken should have resigned sooner, but perhaps the timing was planned to be fresh in the minds of the Alabama republican women some who were sufficiently disgusted by Moore to sity this one out.

Moore's people talking recount now. The gift that keeps on giving!

Howard said...

Mac: Franken's an amateur. His replacement will be more effective

Inga...Allie Oop said...

“I'm just trying to figure out why Inga hasn't responded to any questions about her plans to bring down Menendez.”

Where are Menendez’s victims? I encourage them to come forward. Or those who witnessed Menendez’s sexual assaults to come forward. What else do you want me to do?

Dr Weevil said...

Big Mike:
I'm getting tired of seeing people at work and on Twitter talking as if Franken were already gone, when he hasn't even set a date. Without waiting for the AL results, I bet a guy at work 50 cents that Franken will still be in the Senate in three weeks (first day back from Christmas break). I would have bet more, but he didn't seem to want to put more behind his assurance that Franken's leaving.

Howard said...

Moore covering up his hard-on for teenybopper with the bible now

Howard said...

Menendez would be replaced by another democrat. If the dems replace all their pervs, that puts moore spot on Drumpf in the miss teen USA dressing rooms

Matt Sablan said...

"Hopefully the GOP learned not to nominate loons."

-- What are you talking about? Perfectly normal candidates like Christine O'Donnel, Mitt Romney and John McCain were "otherized" just as easily as Moore was. Hell, Christine O'Donnel had to cut an ad telling people she wasn't a witch and did not practice naked black magic dances in the woods at night because of what people slimed her with.

No matter who the Republicans put up, they're going to be called a loon.

Dr Weevil said...

Big Mike:
Republicans didn't nominate Akin in Missouri. Democrats crossed over to vote for him in large numbers, because they thought he would be the easiest to beat, and he still only won a three-way primary 34-33-31 or something very close to that.

buwaya said...

The GOP did not nominate loons, primary voters nominated some normal-enough people who could be made to look like loons. Because they were not members of the nomenklatura.
Any given member of the nomenklatura could just as easily have been made to look foolish and unfit.

Its not the facts, its the message, and of course who controls the message-machine.

MacMacConnell said...

Frakens replacement will be a woman, if he really resigns.

Dr Weevil said...

Howard:
Isn't Chris Christie governor of New Jersey for a couple more weeks? Once the Democrat elected to replace him last month is inaugurated, we may see a greater willingness on the part of the Democrats to push Menendez out and replace him with a more attractive Democrat. Then again, many of them seem to enjoy wallowing in the hypocrisy of protecting their own known perverts while inveighing against the alleged perverts in the other party.

walter said...

Inga,
What legislation will Jones help put over the top that AL voters agree with?

buwaya said...

Tonight was not good news even for Howard, Chuck, Inga and the lot. Your ongoing structural problems are going to harm you, too, or your children and grandchildren. This is not just some social garbage.

Your political-economic system is in the hands of a very malevolent clique. They are predators, though to them you arent prey really. You all are simply pests, to be suppressed or removed.

The best analogy here is the humans vs the Martians in H.G.Wells' "War of the Worlds". You face "intelligences vast and cool, and unsympathetic".

Inga...Allie Oop said...

“What legislation will Jones help put over the top that AL voters agree with?”

readering said...

Odds one of the two new Senators will be a woman?

Bay Area Guy said...

"Hopefully the GOP learned not to nominate loons."

I used to think this too, but I was wrong (for the reasons noted by Matthew Sablan notes above)

Mitt Romney was the complete opposite of a loon. Totally squeaky clean - scandal free - no grabbing Pussy by old Mitt.

And yet he was successfully demonized and "otherized" by the Left.

So, to me, the lessons learned wasn't to avoid nominating loons, but nominating folks who: (a) fight back and (b) avoid being demonized by any means necessary.

I'm not saying it's easy. To me, it's absolutely amazing that the GOP is still competitive across the country, despite the massive welfare class, University class, and rentier class. So, my expectations are low. If Trump gets the tax bill passed, a few more Federal judges, avoids a few wars in the Middle East, I'll be reasonably pleased.

buwaya said...

Their biggest problem with you Americans is that you persistently vote "wrong", not conforming to their desires.
So they will do what they can to suppress this inconvenience.
Trump scared them; they wont permit that again.

You have not had "normal" politics for over a decade.

Every single overt issue in any electoral contest, that they raise, is fake. Its a diversion, a distraction, and not relevant to the genuine matters at issue.

KittyM said...

@buwaya "Its not the facts, its the message, and of course who controls the message-machine."

I know what you mean, but in this particular case, I don't think that is convincing. Moore and his character were very much "out there" from the beginning. He had a long public history that the voters could access. And local television coverage in particular actually skewed quite heavily in his favour.

MacMacConnell said...

McCaskill has always ran skeezy campaigns with the help of urban newspapers and the unions. When she was the county prosecutor working on arson cases, but she always says she prosecuted drug and molestation cases in Congress. The father of her children was a druggy, he got caught at the casino doing them, she was supposedly clueless. He also got killed in his car outside a crack house, she was clueless. Her condo being auctioned off for back taxes, it was her brother's fault. Back taxes on her private plane, her husband's fault. Owning a private plane, her husband's fault. Sold the plane before the last election so she just like us no plane, but bought a more expensive plane after the election. This time she registered it with a air management corp with the request to the FAA that it can't be publicly tracked charging her office with travel expenses. I bet she blames her husband, there's a pattern.

I remember when she first ran for state wide office, she had operatives that looked like her. They would all attended political events around the state pretending to be her. I shit you not.

Nobody commented on this (as far as I could see) but I think this is a great example of how we are sometimes wrong. Meade "could tell by the way they were talking" that Moore was winning.
