I liked the Pelosi, and Schumer empty chair trick as well. Again, the media had to show the empty chairs to explain their outrage. Trump is three steps ahead, and living rent free in their heads.

During the Cold War you would find no bigger ally to the Soviet Union than your average, American leftist. They openly rooted for them. In public.

It's more of the same from Adams. He is saying rather plainly that a substantial number of people who count in the electorate do not care about the factual details. Facts don't matter; what matters is emotional currents and the way that those emotional currents can be moved. So, visual imagery is of utmost importance, as Adams says, and all that matters in this case from the Trump perspective is the visual imagery -- whatever its provenance -- is powerful, and that is all that matters. The details really don't matter.

Perhaps Scott Adams is suggesting that everyone is a "gullible victim." That none of us possess sufficient facts to make true decisions, so we are all more or less emotional animals and thereby "gullible victims." No matter what, Scott Adams has nothing to refute David Frum. All that matters is how one wishes to define "gullible victims."
By the way -- and feel free to correct me if your own experience today has been different -- I am NOT seeing the retweeted videos on television. Maybe Adams did, earlier; and maybe somebody at CNN figured out what Adams was talking about. But I am not seeing the videos anywhere now. I have not viewed the videos.
Having invited anyone to correct me, I fully expect some other links to come up now.
I have CNN on the background when I'm in my office (usually muted).
CNN did show the videos around the 3PM CT hour on Jake Tapper's show. All the while bemoaning why a president would do such a reckless thing, when he could be talking about the tax cut vote.
From my recollection, one commenter (from the left I think) actually complained that he wished they could talk about tax cuts because the vote was coming up soon and he felt that not enough attention was being paid to it that might drive voters to tell their Senators to vote against it.
One other commenter when prompted by Jake if he was surprised by this latest outrage stated that there was so many outrages it was hard to stay outraged. Which happens to coincide with something Scott has said before.
Trump knows you can only be outraged by facts for so long when another issue comes to the forefront and the only thing you will remember is visuals.
I'll add that they seemed to have stopped showing videos after that segment. They've talked about them, usually with a someone with a foreign policy background complaining about how it's reckless and will drive Muslims to attack us.
The thing is without showing the videos it just drives people to want to see it themselves. And that's easy to do on twitter.

Adams position is that we are all "gullible victims", including people who reject the idea of themselves as such, and including Trump. This fits quite well with various strains of both Eastern and Western philosophy, and of course with the most ancient and cynical view of politics.

That's been CNN's schtick for a while now. There is SO MUCH of substance they would like to be talking about, but they can't, because Trump tweeted something (or Melania's speech sounded like Michelle Obama's, or something).
Yesterday they were mad at Trump for denigrating CNN's reporting. So Wolf Blitzer did a very impassioned speech and presented clips of CNN war correspondents in harm's way. Mind you, this is not what CNN spends any time reporting any more. They spend all their time on Trump's tweets They've got poor Clarissa Ward and Ivan Watson and Arwa Damon hanging out in dangerous places for pretty much nothing. The last I saw one of them get any attention was when we were all suddenly focused on Aleppo (months/years after Aleppo had first become a hellhole, but at a time The Resistance started Facebook posting about it)

Yes, CNN spent the other day vindicating Trump. All their coverage was about his tweets about them. How is that real, actual news selected to be important to viewer? It's not, it's a form of fake news: a nothing dressed up and pounded for hours.
I do want to respond to Chuck, though not by providing links to things that disprove his points.
I agree that Scott Adams is repeating his points for a year or so; that does not make them wrong.
I don't agree with your characterization of Scott Adams's theory: It is not that Trump plays on the stupid and gullible. It is that people's behavior is better explained by thinking about their responses to emotional stimuli than by thinking of people as making rational optimizing decisions based on perfect information. So for example, almost all television ads try to persuade you to buy their product by saying, or implying, "cool people like you use this product", or by writing an unforgettable jingle; the ads don't say "this cereal has 130 calories per serving and contains whole grains."
Advertising agencies have realized t his for years. Trump is not the first to apply it to politics, but has raised the application of this to a new level. Twitter becomes just a slightly expanded version of bumper stickers; the name calling (crooked Hillary, pocahontas) are the equivalent of the memorable jingle. And he keeps coming back to those emotional heartstrings: illegal immigration, taking jobs, causing crime, stealing benefits, stealing health care, raising your taxes.
If we are talking about immigration, taxes, gov't subsidies, crime, Pocahontas, Crooked Clintons -- why then Trump is winning. Don't confuse me with the facts.

Adams is fascinating. Very smart guy. I like to listen to him. He almost always lauds Trump's persuasion skills. It was originally hard to accept, but I am more inclined to accept it now than in the beginning. Truthfully, Trump has never seemed smart enough to me to be a master persuader. But maybe it is not about smarts.

Sorry, but that says more about you than it does about anything else. Anyone who doubts that Trump is intelligent is fooling themselves. He might not be a bonafide Mensa candidate, but the dude has brains. He just uses them in ways that most of us can't understand - cuz we're either not as smart as he is or we never learned the lessons he did.
Deny it all you want, doubters. Then look in the mirror and ask yourself, have I accomplished even a tenth of what Trump has? Invariably, that answer will be "NO". End of story.

Trump's core competency is getting people to see his side of an issue as their side of the issue. Contrary to most media reports, Trump's side is not diametrically opposed to the side of the average American, and he does not personally profit by "duping gullible victims" - he instead pushes for a stronger economy and greater personal freedoms, something beneficial to pretty much everyone, whether they realize it or not.

No doubt that Trump has accomplished all those things. I suppose it depends on how you define smart. I doubt he would do that well on an IQ test, but that is not the only way to test smarts. I was thinking in terms of how he answers questions. To my eye and ear, he does not convey a lot of intelligence in that context. Obama did generally convey high intelligence in answering questions.
