TRUMP has an awkward handshake? A WHOLE BUNCH OF PEOPLE have awkward handshakes. Why do we always think that it's what the American does that counts? Very provincial!
huh
You are my sunshine, my only sunshine.
Trump's hands are big in Asia.
That is some all time creepy, and funny, shite right there. Superior in amusement value to the the matching blue pajama top of the other day.
-sw
Now remember, this is some sort of sick, cult-like worship of Trump.
Having grade-school kids forced to sing the glories of Barack Hussein Obama hmmmm, mmm, mmm is not.
I don't think he's being awkward in the handshake. I think he knows it's a ridiculous thing but he has to do it so he's being a little comical about it. He does physical comedy sometimes (e.g. the Ben Carson belt-buckle routine).
Maybe it's hard for him to stretch his arms that much because he wears body armor.
I see that Althouse is labeling this w/ the 'DJT foreign policy' tag.
Sadly, this post does pretty well summarize his trip.
I suppose to be complete you'd need to include his bragging about the size of his red China carpet.
And, he did compliment the Chinese for their continuing to screw us. "Who can blame a country for being able to take advantage of another country for the benefit of its citizens? I give China great credit.”
Winning!
"Maybe it's hard for him to stretch his arms that much because he wears body armor."
No such excuse for having a mouth that seems mostly limited to stretching to asshole size.
"but he has to do it"
Tell that to the Russians.
No such excuse for having a mouth that seems mostly limited to stretching to asshole size.
As big as you ?
Is this the same politician the referred to Obama as the "son of a whore".
Yes, it is.
that referred, not the referred.
"Tell that to the Russians."
Should Trump just tell the Russians he will be more flexible after his next election, or should he send them a message on a small plastic button? Maybe something along the lines of "Overcharge"?
How about a box of previously used cigars....if you know what I mean.
"I suppose to be complete you'd need to include his bragging about the size of his red China carpet"
Why doesn't Trump just let hundreds of billions flow to our sworn enemies while they accelerate their nuke building?
You know, like obama did?
"And, he did compliment the Chinese for their continuing to screw us."
Nope.
Trump was just pointing out how feckless and how much of a failure obama was in protecting our interests.
I'm not surprised you don't get that.
Probably because you supported obama giving away the store to our enemies....but in a "good" way no doubt.
Good lord.
"Trump was just pointing out how feckless and how much of a failure obama was in protecting our interests."
I give zero Fs about all the China-made trash that most folks buy. E.g., w/ very few exceptions, I never wear anything that's made in any of those sweatshop countries.
Of course there are some non-junk things that come outa China, et. al.. And, I do think it's dumb that my new phone's shipment tracking showed a three day period of non-movement in Zheng Zheou. WTF? Why did it just sit there? I could not care less about the cost of stuff I want. Charging twice (or more) as much is fine, as long as I get it sooner (also I'm assuming that it's still not shit (e.g. it's not like American built cars have been and still are v quality foreign-built cars)).
Anywho, I guess we can thank DJT for Apple deciding in June of 2016 to have Foxconn open a US plant. [Technically we should also thank WI tax payers for subsidizing my future stuff. Thanks Cheese Heads!]
BTW, a Pres of Boeing once told me an anecdote re a truck that was was made by both Ford (ranger) and Mazda (b2000?).
Long story short: the Japanese were building transmissions so insanely accurately that normal instruments couldn't tell them apart from the US-made transvestites. The Ford versions had failures, even though both were built using the same specs. Eventually, w/ finer measurements, folks realized why the Mazdas worked.
Even today a German or Japanese car built in the states is more shitty than one from the homeland. That's why the baller stuff is still made over there, and then shipped here. IMHO.
"Anywho, I guess we can thank DJT for Apple deciding in June of 2016 to have Foxconn open a US plant. [Technically we should also thank WI tax payers for subsidizing my future stuff. Thanks Cheese Heads!]"
Well, you can certainly thank the clintons and their pal Bernie Schwartz for "accidentally" allowing MIRV technology to be transferred to China for all that sweet chinese campaign cash that "accidentally" found its way into the clinton campaign coffers.
But obambi outdid them all with his giving away the store to the Iranian mullahs.
Remember, the mullahs have your best interest at heart. Do you know how you can tell? Because the muslim call to prayer is the most beautiful sound in the world (according to certain lefty politicians)....
Drago,
Tech is the stuff of costal elite libruls.
Forget that. The future is coal.
BTW, why yes, yes it was Bernie Schwartz sitting snugly and warmly next to Hillary during that Clinton era SOTU...right before the campaign contributions showed up followed in quick succession by Loral and Hughes "accidental transfer" of technology.
Gee, that's the kind of "accidental" type thing that LLR Chuck can really get behind!
"Tech is the stuff of costal elite libruls."
I would recommend you stick with that kind of talking point. The alternative for you would not be pleasant.
What was the Clinton/lefty team response to the American people when this little "exchange" was exposed?
The political equivalent of "you'll want to put some ice on that"
BTW, if "tech" is such a coastal thing, perhaps you could figure out a way to get some "tech" to the 50%+ gals in California who get pregnant unintentionally.
Perhaps you could also include some colorful brochures about how that "baby stuff" happens, or whatever technique would work on the coast.
350,000+ gals getting pregnant unintentionally in CA is the very definition of a "target rich" environment. I'll bet some of them don't even work in Hollywood!
What does it mean when you'r writing more than 20% of all the comments on a substantial thread, and one of them includes these words "the Japanese were building transmissions so insanely accurately that normal instruments couldn't tell them apart from the US-made transvestites" (emphasis added)?
Lowering the quantity of one's comments may help them achieve higher quality.
Awkward? It's goofy but he seemed to be amused, as did everyone in the clip.
I didn’t watch the karaoke.
When I type out the first comment I'm at 100%.
And, I'm un-PC re trannys.
"I think he knows it's a ridiculous thing"
So also is Karaoke. But its still incredibly popular.
This style of press conference antics is typical. Its part of political culture there, and not just in the Philippines. Partly because the masa (masses), in what are now mostly democracies, have an expectation that their politicians aren't too stuck up to relate. So they have to show they aren't stuck up.
I don't know if Althouse has ever been out East - as in Far East.
There is a remarkable amount of stuff that she would find ridiculous, remarkable, bizarre and upsetting. Its a mad, mad, mad world.
This sort of thing does work, as far as popularity.
To put it in American terms, consider what politicians went through in the US, 50 or more years ago. The campaign songs, gimmicks, public entertainment. The fun, really.
Watch "Oh Brother Where Art Thou", the antics on the campaign between "Pappy" O'Daniel and Homer Stokes. That was a very Filipino campaign. I have seen everything in there, in real life, down to the midgets.
Buw,
[Disclaimer: I'm not (in this particular comment) trying to be mean.] If ya want to jabber to Althouse re the Far East and etiquette and norms, you must acknowledge that plenty of (most?, nearly all?) "Asians" look down on Filipinos et. al.. In fact, plenty "Asians" wouldn't consider such as authentically "Asian" w/o some sorta distinguishing prefix i.e., not the same as themselves.
Just sayin' that ya may wanna pause before you decide to speak for all Far East folks.
Two lessons we need to learn from Democrats, the Media and the Left.
1) All cultures are equal, none are better than the others.
2) Ha ha! You partook in someone elses culture, you're such a tool!
"Good lord."
Welcome to genuine foreigners. They are foreign.
PB&J,
If you live in the Far East, you will find that most Asians dislike, deplore, and despise many if not most of their neighbors. The Chinese have a weird superiority complex vs Filipinos particularly. They have an inferiority complex vs Japs.
And so on.
The Filipinos are pretty much oblivious to all that. Compared to most East Asians they are a psychologically well-adjusted lot, and difficult to piss off.
I cannot find a transcript. Drudge says Moore denied knowing where the restaurant was. She said he was a regular who would spend hours there most nights. If the Drudge quote is accurate this is a pretty clean test of credibility. Witnesses to him being there a lot must exist if she is being truthful. The owner?
Reporting from the Old Country has it that if only Trump could get that little granddaughter of his to sing in Tagalog, he could run for President and win handily.
Buw,
Fine. I Think it's nice to have some level of nationalistic pride. Likewise re allegiance to the big guy upstairs and/or sports teams.
But, you were claiming to educate Althouse re the Far East zeitgeist as if it was being driven by the Philippines. More than a little off base.
"But, you were claiming to educate Althouse re the Far East zeitgeist as if it was being driven by the Philippines. "
No, its not. But all places there each have their own style of weird.
Some things cross national boundaries.
The boss singing ain't rare, at all, in say Korea.
And the weird handshake thing has been done in other Asean meetings.
"The boss singing ain't rare, at all, in say Korea."
Ha!

Thats in Kuala Lumpur, 2015, and that's ex-President Aquino (Duterte's predecessor) on the far right.

Buw,

PB&J,
This part is stupid.
"Two: Given who’s currently running the Philippines, it would be a mistake for this guy to make a pilgrimage to his cultural ancestral homeland. "
Yes he could, and with perfect safety.
"This part is stupid."
You're an easy grader. IMHO.
Not just that part.
BTW,
Both videos are gold. IMHO.
BTBTW,
I do get that trannys are a thing in the Philippines: that was the point of my joke that went 30,000' above Doc Wee.
Likewise, thinking of other things that are interesting: http://www.independent.co.uk/voices/comment/an-afghan-tragedy-the-pashtun-practice-of-having-sex-with-young-boys-8911529.html
Anywho, keeping all of this (and Moore, etc) in mind at the same time seems like the best way to seek wisdom. OTOH, gettin' there means realizing that most folks act on not bein' there. IMHO.
At least (if your filthy R) it's still fun to mock the rest, sans implications.
win-win
These two are FUCKED up.
But Ritmo, I thought you liked weird?
As in your comments in post above.
You will not easily get a wilder wild man than Duterte.
AND he's a populist-socialist. Sort of.
Women love him and feminists hate him.
Consider being a fan.
Embrace the strange.
He kills people without due process but I forgot about how I have to apologize for not subordinating that civilizational prerequisite to your flair for the dramatic.
