Trump was suckered into the DC swamp by McConnell. Not a good move.

Trump needs to learn that both McConnell and Schumer are swamp-monsters.

Is deleting some tweets a big deal? Is this one of those impeachable offenses?

Much more serious than deleting 30,000 emails.

He tried to give McConnell some room and McConnell took it and spit in his face again.

You only get so many chance with a guy like Trump.

So Hillary has secret server so no one can see her illegal activities. Once it's discovered, she deletes 30,000 take make sure no one can see.

Dem's say "No problem"

Donald makes two tweets so the entire world can see them and the delete's them because he was suckered by the GOPe in backing a loser.

Dem's say "Impeach".

Yeah, that seems equivalent.

....and...??

That's my first reaction.

I do wonder though: Is communication from a President protected in some way by some ancient archivist-generated law? But if everyone knows they were actually deleted, then they aren't really gone, are they? Is there a Presidential Records Law?

The Post and Times should just write OMG!!!! We still hate Trump!!! Like Totes!!! each day at the top of their mastheads!

The media needed to make this all about a Trump loss. He's backed the winner in all the other special elections so far. And this one was a republican primary, so win-win as far as I'm concerned.

Trump made an appearance for McConnel's establishment guy hoping to curry favor. The establishment guy lost and the anti-e guy (who supports Trump's agenda) won.

The media has to spin that into a HUGE loss for Trump. It's not.

Trump didn't create the wave, he just rode it. If the republican congress doesnt do as they promised, the wave will take them out as well.

To be serious. I 'think' that the archivist rules apply to government communications, communications done on government servers, through government channels or communications which belong to the government....like Hillary's emails. Not to personal notes, letters to his wife, shopping lists, shower thoughts written down or tweets in the public domain.

OMG!

For the first time in the history of Twitter, someone deleted some of their tweets!!

Did the tweets represent terabytes of info downloaded from Democrat politicians congressional computer accounts?

Trump endorsed Strange as a nod to McConnell. Not that he really needs to nod to McConnell.

Why in the world is that even news? Its astounding how the world wide press in constantly looking for every crumb of news to make Trump look bad. And if they can't anything bad, they make it up.

Its like living in the USSR and being subjected to a non-stop Pravda anti-wrecker campaign.

Changed his tune? Had he previously said Moore was not a great guy, or that he hadn't run a fantastic race, or that he would not help to #MAGA?

Or is this more fake news?

Sad!

Elaine Chao, Mitch McConnell's wife, currently serves as President Trump's Secretary of Transportation. A nod to the GOPe swamp?

So - Trump endorsed and campaigned for Candidate A. Candidate B won. Trump congratulated Candidate B on his victory and said he looked forward to working with him. You know, before the "Clinton resistance", that sort of thing was normal behavior.

Am I supposed to be upset that Trump accepted the results of an election?

Eaglebeak

Not really a big deal. In his speech last Friday night in Alabama pushing Big Luther Strange, Trump conceded that "I might have made a mistake," added that "all my friends" are backing Moore, and said that if Moore won he would campaign hard for him.

He commented that he thought it would be harder for Moore to beat a Democrat in the general election (although in Alabama?), and gave as his principal reason for backing Strange that Strange had been loyal to him and given him (Trump) his (Strange's) vote on some bill or other--health care? debt ceiling?

And then he, Trump, gave a little lecture about the importance of loyalty.

So he was loyal to Strange, and now he can back Moore to the nth degree.

Meanwhile, Moore campaigned as pro-Trump and all his supporters--Bannon, Gorka, Hannity, Carson, Palin--insisted that Moore was the Trump candidate.

Odd, but not apocalyptic.

Obama routinely deleted Tweets. Or to be accurate, the staff he employed to run the Twitter account did.

It may have been Scott Adams back in Summer 2016 who observed that if you look at Trump's whole career, including politics but also what came before, he looks for a way to frame deals so he has multiple ways to come out ahead.

This AL special election fits that to a "T". He backed the candidate of the establishment, and if Strange had won he (Trump) would have claimed credit with McConnell et al. As it is, Strange lost but Moore will be a much stronger and more passionate partisan for Trump, than Strange would have been. Trump now moves to flush the Strange candidacy down the memory hole, knowing that as Strange is a conservative Republican, the media will go along after a day or two.

Either way, Trump wins. What is amazing is that the supposedly smart people, who have been wrong about everything for 2 years, still can't figure it out.

Heck, even after he did it, they don't see how he trolled most of the NFL and most of the liberal sports commentariat into committing ritual suicide. With nothing more than a couple of mildly inflammatory tweets.

The common heartfelt of anyone in a competitive situation, is "God, please let them underestimate me." Just in the last few years of Presidential politics, it worked twice for George W. Bush, worked for Obama in the 2008 primaries, and for Trump in the Winter/Spring and again in the Fall of 2016. Almost worked for Sanders in 2016, too.

All you Trumpsters who had doubts about how phony he is need to speak up now or forever admit that we fucking told you so.

I don't know, Toothy, what I'm supposed to get upset about. From the pretty bland endorsement he did give, it certainly didn't seem like he was emotionally invested, but doing it on advice or as a favor. Why wouldn't he get behind the winner, who will, after all, be a Republican? What would a non phony do?

Bad Lieutenant said...

Incidentally if by phony you mean devious, yeah Trump is definitely capable of being devious. It's a feature, not a bug. Look at Fatboy Kim. He's confused like a cat on Monty Python. If you wanted a virgin out of Seminary, Mitt Romney ran last time.
