Kenya must redo its election, the Kenyan Supreme Court says.

As the NYT reports, the court agreed with the side that lost the election that "the vote had been hacked and electronically manipulated to assure a victory for President Uhuru Kenyatta."
Most African courts are often under pressure from leaders, [said Dickson Omondi, a country director for the National Democratic Institute, a nonpartisan organization that supports democratic institutions and practices worldwide.], so “It’s a historic moment showing the fortitude and courage of the Kenyan judiciary.”...

Walter Mebane, a professor of statistics and political science at the University of Michigan who studies elections worldwide, volunteered to run the voting results through a computer model he developed to detect electoral fraud. Based on statistics only, and without knowledge of the intricacies of Kenyan politics, he and his team found patterns that showed widespread manipulation.

“It was unlike any data set I had ever seen,” he said. “Every single indicator came up signaling anomalies. It’s a huge red flag that something weird is going on.”

Liberal projection.

If the election was held in November 2018, Trump would still win.

I guess that the Democrats will be running a candidate called I. Haidt , on the platform of "Feeding our hatred is more important than jobs."

Every Dem party activist. Every govt bureaucrat. Every MSM pundit. Every big city paper editor. Every Antifa fascist thug. Most college profs. They all are going to look at Kenya and ask, "If them, then why not us?" There must have been fraud, because there couldn't have been enough deplorables to elect Trump. After all, they don't know any Trump supporters (or, at least anyone willng ny to admit such to them in public).

Maybe a good slogan for Democrats would be "You're worthless and unemployable, why not take our handouts?"

The most reliable contra indicator weighs in: The people who voted were alive. I didn't see any dead people walking around.

While I know that there are clear statistical indicators of fake data, and I suspect his analysis is correct, I'd feel a whole lot better about this if he could say that it was just like other data sets I have seen in which there was known manipulation.

When researching a trip with my daughter to go to Nairobi and climb Kilimanjaro in 2008, I came upon many warnings about the violence in Nairobi as a result of the December 2007 election. I'm assuming it's the same now.

But the Kikuyus still have the guns.

The Democrats do not want to hear about this because they know damn well there was fraud; just not enough to for them to win the election.

I'd like more detail on what those red flags are and whether they might detect signals in Chicago, Detroit or Philadelphia.

US voting results are public, so I assume he's run ours, and bupkis. So STFU lefties. Bow to your new Trump god!

They can't topple Trump, so they topple statues.

They can't redo an American election, so they celebrate when Kenya "re-does" theirs?

The Leftwing psychosis continues.

Hanging's too good for her.

John Kerry was an election observer. He certified that it was free and fair. This must be some mistake. On the other hand, President Trump called and congratulated Kenyatta, so there's grounds for suspicion.

Things you can only say on the Internet: I respect men like Mandela and Tutu and their efforts to bend the art of history towards justice, but why do we only hear of such noble and ennobling leaders when they're protesting white injustices. Africa has had no shortage of despots and tyrants, but why is that only in the context of white rule do we find such principled men in opposition?

"Art of history" s/b arc of history, but maybe they're the same thing.

Really...what is the point of most Third World nations even having elections. How often is their a peaceful transfer of power between political opponents? How often is the current leader re-elected with 90% of the vote? How many Third World leaders have bank accounts with millions and billions of dollars in them in Switzerland?

William said...

Off topic: Is there really such a thing as the arc of history and, if so, does it truly bend towards justice. My own view is that history is a series of random events than finally ends with the extinction of all life on earth and the eventual collapse of the cosmos into nothingness.

Both fascinating and terrifying for me, as one of my best friends runs Children of Hope, which has two homes for children* - one in Nairobi, and one in Kikuyu. She has recently returned (just before the election), but will be returning in October.

If you are so inclined, please pray for these children. My gut says this is bad news for Kenyans.

*Kenya does not allow adoption of these children because of the fear of human trafficking.

Uhuru Kenyatta? That's like a US President being named Liberty America. Very suspicious on those grounds alone...

The reason for suspicion about suspicion about Uhuru Kenyatta is not his surname per se, but that Uhuru Kenyatta is the son of Jomo Kenyatta, Kenya's first President. That is, we are seeing a family dynasty in progress.

BTW, Barack Obama Sr., not being of the same tribe as Jomo Kenyatta, had problems in Kenya.

It is of note that the NYT article does not see it fit to mention that Uhuru Kenyatta is the son of former President Jomo Kenyatta (by his fourth wife.)

That to me is negligence of the part of the NYT. What a surprise.

Darcy,

I assume you mean Kenya doesn't allow foreigners to adopt them? While it's not common, I do know Kenyans who have adopted non-relatives.

William said...

I just read up on Jomo Kenyatta on Wiki. He was one of post colonial Africa's more successful rulers, but Jefferson's mottled legacy is nothing compared to Kenyatta's. I think fgm is more harmful to African women than racism. There are, at any rate, greater ratesof mortality attached to this custom.. Kenyatta was in favor of fgm. He felt it strengthened the structural integrity of the tribe. He had several wives and was a life long womanizer. Why is Jefferson's racism more pernicious than Kenyatta's sexism?

Darcy said...

@Kirk Parker

Thank you for the correction - yes, you are right. Also, I am not criticizing the barring of foreign adoption due to human trafficking fears. Just think it is incredibly sad. COH is mainly focused on providing care and schooling and not on adoption as you are also correct that it is not common.

FYI - we have a gala fundraiser coming up if anyone is interested in donating or attending, please feel free to email me.

I recall statistical anomolies in Michigan that were easily explainable by a little knowledge of the electorate. Sonething this professor lacks.
