"Thirty years ago on this day, Aug. 1, 1988, he began broadcasting 'The Rush Limbaugh Show' on flagship WABC in New York City."

Hmm. Speaking of grade levels...

No Rush. No Fox News. No President Trump.

Rush, "Ann Althouse. She's from Wisconsin. She has a blog -- she's had it for a while -- and she wrote a blurb last night, a post, about two political science professors who have recently discovered the term "low-information voter" and sought to define it."

It's time to let his arm tied behind his back lose now. He has to fight cons and libs at the same time now that Wild Man Trump ascended to top dog. But Rush did his part in delivering that Miracle on Main Street.

I have to tell my father 5 times a day what day of the week it is, but at least he knows it isn't 2018.

All I'm saying is that it was not his 30th anniversary. The line at World Net Daily is especially laughable, but Rush himself has (some of the time) been speaking of it as a big anniversary. He's also adjusted and said that he's beginning his 30th year, as if the whole year is an occasion.

But it's just very weird. The big "0" anniversary is a year from now. I think somebody miscalculated, Rush started talking about it, saying he almost missed it and had scheduled a vacation and he was told he needed be on the air on such a momentous anniversary, and he changed his vacation. It was hard to smooth over the mistake, but come on! Somebody goofed.

Somebody is certainly looking forward to 2018.

He actually did a show from Sacramento before that, I think.

On this date 35 years ago MTV started broadcasting. Between Rush and MTV only one show is still relevant. Video did not kill the radio star.

Whichever year it was, the day will live in liberal infamy.

Michael K is correct. Rush did a show here in Sacramento on KFBK beginning in about 1984. It was superb. Before that he'd been in Kansas City and, I think, various places around the dial.

I remember when I was a kid, major league baseball managed to make a two-year celebration of its centenary.

1968 was its 100th season; 1969 was its 100th-anniversary season.

IIRC they were careful with the distinction.

Rush got me thought the terminal phase of grad school. Daily marathon sessions of thesis writing and reading journals were extended by the (then) noon-2PM show on WXYT here in Detroit. Lab time was made more interesting not by blasting mindless rock, but Rush from the same time each day. Great show, imo.

Great quip. Too bad one has to be old enough to get it.

And most of the time he has been drawing these enormous audiences, there has been an unofficial advertiser boycott.

Prominent businesses have been privately advised that there would be repercussions for doing business with Limbaugh. And he has rarely had a higher-profile entity bring him on as a "talking head", in spite of the likely viewership draw.

A great deal of politics goes on under the table, behind the curtains, and does not directly involve elected officials. There really are "the powers that be".

At a certain point I moved away from home to an area where Rush wasn't syndicated. My mom would record the show and send me cassettes.

She should sue the patent trolls who sued Adam Carolla.

Although I'm sure you are right, I thought it was Money For Nothing by the Dire Straights that was the first MTV video. The point being, we are past our sell by dates to get the joke.

So much of Rush's viewpoint has been mainstreamed by other broadcasters who followed his lead. He's still an astute observer of politics and pleasant to listen to for an hour, but not very controversial anymore -- furious nutjobs like Mark Levin, blathering nutjobs like Sean Hannity, or furious blathering nutjobs like Alex Jones have taken over.

I never paid much attention to Limbaugh until I read "liberals" (always wanting to tell the pro-freedom camp how to neuter themselves and be less of a threat to the Plantation) complaining: "That Limbaugh isn't a real conservative! He's a radical libertarian!" My reaction: "ALL RIGHT!"

Since that song name-checks MTV as the easy path to glory in the music world, that makes for an interesting chicken-and-egg problem.

Um, there was no year zero. The whole "Year of Our Lord" thing didn't come about until several hundred years after the fact.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anno_Domini

"This calendar era is based on the traditionally reckoned year of the conception or birth of Jesus of Nazareth, with AD counting years from the start of this epoch, and BC denoting years before the start of the era. There is no year zero in this scheme, so the year AD 1 immediately follows the year 1 BC. This dating system was devised in 525 by Dionysius Exiguus of Scythia Minor, but was not widely used until after 800."

Rush is Right

Little-known fact: His endocrine system disagrees.

How much more corporeally gargantuan can a successful radio loudmouth get? Doesn't it kind of symbolize the gluttony of his political philosophy? How lazy his thoughts are?

The esteemed and very representative Alex Jones is nothing of the sort. See Stephen Colbert's impression of him for details.
