And when you're Vice President, they let you do it.

You can do anything. Touch NASA's equipment. You can do anything.

Congratulations to VP Mike Pence for responding to an internet roasting with internet-friendly humor....

The first one I saw was, "Mario Rubio dared me to do it."

Is that why Biden was fondling all those wives and daughters of sppointees? Because VPs get to touch whatever they want?

CNN pay attention how it's done.

I had no idea Pence had a sense of humor. Very well done by the Veep!

Finally the GOP is learning how this internetz thing works. Cue Chelsea Clinton with a scoldy message in 3-2-1.

It's obviously a clean room and Pence caused millions of dollars in damage and set back our Space Program by months. *rolls eys like Angela*

MadisonMan said...

Um, Seppo, it's obviously NOT a clean room. Pay attention to what they're wearing.

Good on him for the ability to use self deprecating humor.

When I saw the original photo I immediately thought of my son...when he was a toddler, in every instance when we instructed him to not touch something he'd respond by touching it while saying, "Don't touch this?", as if he needed clarification.

So in my head I heard VP Pence going, "Don't touch this?"

I get the joke, both ways. It is harmless fun.

However, the sign is typical NASA and government over doing it. That panel is anything but delicate. It has to handle launch loads, thermal cycling, and a lot of other physical distress beyond what a hand will do. It is kept clean and rarely touched for quality control concerns. The thing is, the moment that piece left the clean room (you know its not in a clean room, or this entourage would like John Kerry); it was going to require re-cleaning.

For some of us engineer types, the signs were often frustrating. You'd have some technician protecting the equipment as if it was extremely delicate and one touch would cause it to crumble. And as engineer, you wanted to know if the dang thing was installed correctly, because it seemed quite loose, and if I'm able to damage it with my hands alone; then someone made a mistake, most likely that technician doing all the squawking.

On a related note; between this incident with Pence and the previous one with Kerry; I wonder when politicians are going to quit visiting NASA for fear of bad publicity photos?

Maybe the compulsive touching thing is why Pence is never alone with a woman not his wife.

LOL Bob Boyd!

And in my head I also pictured that scene with VP Pence saying, "Don't touch this?"

Leland, you beat me to the Kerry bunnysuit.

Since Quayle, a VP will take any press he can get that doesn't include pastel overalls or tank helmets.

Madison Man, your sarcasm detector must not have been made in a NASA clean room. Please recalibrate.

Nothing is so darned inviting as a 'do not touch' sign. Unless it's a 'do not watch this video--it's really gross and gut-wrenching'.

Is he actually making fun of Trump?

I thought he (or anyone in Trump's "circle") was too much of a cuck for that.

Do not touch signs cause touching by the same mechanism that causes people to crave Chick-fil-a on Sundays, but only on Sundays.

Mockturtle, you forget wet paint signs.
