"People seem to love [Trump’s family] in the same way the public loved the Kennedys."

Writes Scott Adams....
And notice how Donald Jr. and Eric both have the speaking cadence of John and Jack Kennedy.
John and Jack, eh? I love Scott Adams... but he's not infallible. Here at Meadhouse, we were saying Donald Jr. is Bobby Kennedy. That's who he sounded like, and it's distinctive in a way that counting John twice doesn't equal.
Notice also how Melania reminds you of Jackie Kennedy – quiet, smart, and classy. These are coincidences, but your irrational brain doesn’t care. It sees a new batch of Kennedys and wants to see more of them. That’s powerful election magic for a nation that only pretends to care about policies.

A week ago you compared ugly Donald Trump with ugly Hillary Clinton and declared them a visual tie. That matters because our visual “brain” generally wins against whatever part of the brain is pretending to be logical that day.
Ha ha. Perfect. All is forgiven. Whatever part of the brain is pretending to be logical that day. Love it.
[O]nce we got a look at the entire Trump family, acting as a group, our visual brains started seeing them as a package deal. And when you compare the entire Trump family’s visual appeal to the entire Clinton family’s visual imagery it’s a massacre.

Would you prefer seeing Bill and Hillary Clinton decompose in front of your eyes for eight years, or watch the Trump family develop their dynasty?

I certainly don't forgive Trump because he has decent children. The sons don't impress me as much as the daughters do. Remember, the children also had a mother who raised and influenced them. They are loyal to their father, which is understandable. We certainly cannot extrapolate that because Trump has good children that therefore he himself is a good choice for the Presidency.

He does have a very impressive family.

It makes me wonder how such a racist, bigot, homophobic, second coming of Hitler could have raised such great kids.

Well, on the mother front, as in Ivana deserving credit, Donald probably should get some credit for choosing her, out of the, probably, many thousands of young women who would have been after him at the time.
Not every pretty girl will make a good mother.
This is a factor to consider in judging his ability to make political appointments.

Putting the photogenic Trump family in the White House rather than the white trash from AR is certainly a bonus for us #NeverNeverTrumpers. But Adams mistakes belaboring the obvious for philosophical profundity.

I would think there's a chance that the subliminal "dynasty" image could produce a backlash, but since Adams is factoring in that the only plausible alternative candidate is also from a dynasty, maybe not.

But I certainly heard an awful lot of people counting out Jeb Bush because everyone had had it up to their eyeballs with political dynasties. Why do we want to start another one, again?

Ahhh... The New Bob Dylan. People, always on the search for what they love and remember fondly, to be found in someone new. The political version of this is -- of course -- "the New Jack Kennedy."

Was Bobby Kennedy the "Neil Young?"

Was Teddy Kennedy... well, what the Hell WAS "Teddy Kennedy?" Note that no one rhapsodizes about a "New Teddy Kennedy" -- he is water under the bridge. Yes, I know.

"Was Obama the.... umm... maybe there was a black musician that was called a "New Dylan" but nothing immediately comes to mind; probably a rap artist, would be my guess. You could make the argument that Obama was the "New Marvin Gaye", but that is a topic to itself.

The Kennedy comparisons tire me; I am more interested in who, exactly, is Trump in the World of Dylan?

Perhaps he sees himself as the Bruce Springsteen...

While I enjoyed the old show "Dynasty" as a teen in the 1980s, it was mainly for the decolletage. Ahh, the priorities of the teen years were simple and direct.

John Forsythe made a great male lead in that Dynasty series, swanning about like he owned the entire world, as well as a great Charlie for the Angels in a mere voice acting role.

I would rather listen to Trump happily bluster about like he owned the entire world for his entire term in office than listen to one single scolding, irritating speech from Hillary, the angry, never satisfied Mother-In-Law cheated-on shrew to the world.

Scott Adams writes and illustrates an often-funny and poignant comic strip (and has had some other offerings that are likewise entertaining), but I don't think much of his predictive ability or powers of persuasion.

I also think that Trump's political operation are absolute amateurs - it may be enough to win, but I don't know right now (I'll be able to tell by September 22). It's obvious that they were enraged by the Cruz non-endorsement, despite having the speech 48 hours before he gave it.

If I had to put my life savings on it, I'd say that Trump will lose the electoral college badly, partially due to Trump's completely amateur political team.

Besides all of them being perfectly groomed and articulate. This is what our aristocracy is supposed to look (and sound) like (though Eric looks more like his father than women may like). Not like Chelsea, despite her nose job, etc, and her just as ugly husband. Bets on whether Crooked Hillary is going to let her daughter anywhere near any of the Trump kids over the next 4 months? John, Jr was equally hot, but his sister Caroline got too much of the Kennedy look to ever really be that attractive. Of course, we didn't care back then, because it was Camelot (ok, us Republicans cared - awhile back I found an old "First Family" record that spoofed the Kennedys, and was put away when JFK was assasignated).

I thought that was pretty funny and right on.

I would imagine that they will be 'on the stump' quite a lot during this last stretch of the campaign. They are articulate, accomplished, obviously very smart, lively, positive outlook, and greatly attractive. Compared to plodding, humourless and not very intelligent Chelsea.

Why not Saxe-Coburg, her own lineage?

Victoria was of the House of Hanover. Her children belonged to the House of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha by her husband Prince Albert. Her heir was Edward VII of S-C-G. His heir was George V, who changed the dynasty name to Windsor because of WWI. His heir was Edward VIII of the House of Windsor, who abdicated in favor of his brother George VI. The former king's style was changed to "Duke of Windsor", an honorary title (Wallace being a divorced woman and all) granted by Parliament that he could not pass on. George VI had only daughters. The eldest inherited the crown in her own right as a monarch of the House of Windsor, but her children belong to her husband's house, just the same as Victoria's children weren't Hanoverians.

HT,

Are you a #nevertrump?

Isn't Trump older than Clinton? Accuracy smackuracy.

Number one, they said the Trump family versus the Clinton family. Number two, Trump may be about one calendar year older than Clinton, but just look at them! Let's see if Hillary can give a 90-minute stem-winder without dropping dead.

Sorry, I can't think about Donny's kids. I'm still trying to understand how anyone could vote for a guy who traffics in conspiracy theories.

Douglas, because the alternative is to vote for a gal who traffics in uranium to the Russians, and in ambassadors to Islamofascist reavers. Hope that clears it up for you.

(If it makes you feel better, I'm sure it's an act, or tactic if you will.)

Douglas, did you hear me? I wanted you to know that you had an answer to your question.

And to hear your response.

Also, H does astrologers and speaks to Eleanor Roosevelt in seances. How's that for freaky deaky?
