"And everybody hates it. My wife hates it. My son hates it. But it's interesting."

"But it's interesting. I've kind of developed a real creepy look with it that I'm sort of enjoying. And I can tell that people are off-put by it. And the more people implore me to shave, the stronger my resolve is to not shave."

I thought this post was talking about Paul Ryan, lol.

"You know what? I used to say, every day, "I am so sick and tired of shaving." I had to shave every day, every day, for 33 years."

I stopped shaving 35 years ago because it was a pain in the ass. I do keep the beard trimmed, however. Dave, that beard needs trimming.

Even without the beard, Letterman always sounded to me like a very creepy guy who could "go postal" at any time.

I don't shave when I'm on vacation, otherwise every 3 days or so I shave. My beard is mostly white now (sigh) so it's not that visible.

Letterman's beard nicely frames his very yellow teeth.

Now that he is retired, can we ignore this person and go on with our lives?

His decades of semi-ironc disgust at his overpaid job, and dislike of his guests, and even stronger hatred of his audience, made Letterman someone I did not watch decades ago.

This is the first time I've looked at Letterman and not felt utter revulsion. He should keep the beard.

It's a wild beard, no doubt. Might scare a few timid folks. But, he's retired, has $200 - 300 Million in the bank, so who's to complain?

He's been creepy for a long time now, so he may as well look it. Iirc, he had a beard in his high school photo - looked very old for his age.

He can keep the beard if he stays off my TV.

If you like your beard, you can keep your beard.

I think I saw him at the local mall filling in for the regular Santa Clause, (who was indisposed after having taken too much "medicine.")

I heard him speaking in Dutch to a little girl.

I hate having whiskers, although I did have a really cool Fu Manchu mustache. My hair was black, and the mustache was red.

Red wings!! I was pre-approved to join the Hell's Angels!!

The girl friend that became my wife nixed it.

I would have been fun had Paul Shaffer also stopped shaving.

I've thought of him as Creepy Old Dave for years, but he looks less creepy with the beard. Kind of looks like a skinny Santa Claus.

Maybe if Dave had stopped shaving earlier, he would have enjoyed himself more and been more enjoyable on his show.

I liked his earlier stuff, when he just considered himself a goof. When he started taking himself seriously, that is when he stopped being funny. If your audience is cheering instead of laughing, you are no longer a comedian. Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert, take note.

What's the point of having "fuck you money" if you never say FUCK YOU?

I guess if his wife and young female interns don't mind no one else's opinions matter.

He don't know creepy at all.
1. Just let it grow & don't spend thousands of $s/year to make it look "nice".
2. Wear a large, weathered cowboy hat (I prefer a Gus crease).
3. Pack a .45 (1911 preferred; if you don't know, go to a gun show & ask).

Spot on! There were times I enjoyed Letterman, in his more light-hearted moments, but much of the time he was surprisingly depressing for a comedian, so I quit watching.

Stewart and Colbert are VERY funny men, you're right about the applause vs. cheering, although that's not entirely their fault. The audience that latched onto them pretty much changed the shows from being for people who want to laugh to being for the choir that loves to be preached to.

Once Letterman was number one. The his replacement became number one and he became number two. Now his replacement is number four. That's his angst. Sorry Dave but you have plenty of money so go and enjoy your life while you can.

Letterman wasn't funny. He was a troll. And now he is trolling people with his beard. He still isn't funny and his only joy in life is the irritation it brings others to have a beard.

Another creepy old protected pedophile wannabe.

I've never understood fashion. Why do men shave? Why do women wear high heels? Neither practice makes them look more attractive.

I quit shaving 40 years ago. Took the beard off just once, for less than a week, as a favor to my mother.

I'm sure the Montanans LOVE to have him trolling around Whitefish
