Trump himself is not so scary. What's scary is we have so many people in this country with whom such rhetoric registers. People often have talked about going back in time and killing Hitler. But that would have accomplished nothing, as the climate would have given rise to another demagogue. Just so: it's the broader scene , that fact that Trump has an audience, that merits attention here .
Started to read the link and as per usual it's the usual leftist bullshit false equivalence. Short answer: no we do not need to solve Turkey's refugee problem. Or Europe's for that matter. Turkey has a powerful military. Turkey borders Syria. Turkey's Army can go into Syria, lop off the heads of ISIS and get rid of Assad and impose for what passes as a decent government in Syria.
Hmm. Vague quote. On which Roger Simon hangs a full-Godwin Hitlerization of Trump. I was actually surprised not to find a picture of Trump with a photoshopped Hitler mustache before the end.
(Also the utterly bizarre claim that the U.S. Constitution bars candidates from removing hecklers from their rallies.)
Has Godwin's law been repealed?
Oh, God. If we do elect a Republican president, are we in for another four years of Chimpy McBushHitler taunts treated as serious political commentary?
I never really cared for Trump, but i never knew he was a straight up fascist either. That he is still leading after so many months says a lot about the Republican party.
"That he is still leading after so many months says a lot about the Republican party." It does. But he is also the most disliked candidate by most of the Republican Party. We have a lot of angry people. But most of us understand that that doesn't mean you pick the craziest idiot.
Couple of weeks ago, my wife and I went to Manhattan for our anniversary. Strolling down Fifth Avenue, we saw the Trump Towers, and went inside. We were immediately presented with a Trump Novelties stand, a Trump Trinkets stand, and a Trump Towers Information desk. Looking up the escalator, I could see the Trump Cafeteria above and the Trump Bar below. Going up the escalator, I also saw the Trump Chocolates stand and Trump T-shirts. I'm not exaggerating, I literally could not find a place to look where I wouldn't see his name. Eventually I went looking for the Trump Toilets... Can you imagine? - there are probably a few hundred thousand buildings in the United States, and all those losers never realized that they could put their name everywhere on their buildings, until one genius came along and went with the idea. Pathetic.

The joke's on you progressives.
For years, you wondered out loud why base Republicans allegedly "voted against their economic self-interest" (as you defined the term). Why should working-class Americans vote for globalization and free trade? Evidently you believed that eventually they would shrug off this "false consciousness" and vote progressive.
They seem to be turning against unrestricted global capitalism now.
*BUT* you also accused the GOP base of being racist and nativist.
You just didn't follow your evidence to its logical conclusion.
Anti-globalization and anti-Wall Street combined with racism and nativism does not equal progressivism. It equals fascism.
That's why right-wing populism is a very different animal than left-wing populism.
On the one hand you have Hillary! who says all Muslims are peaceful and have nothing to do with terrorism, and on the the other hand you have Tromp who says that Islamic terrorism is a real threat and we'll have to do some stuff to fight it that we haven't done before. Sensible people who support Hillary! think she doesn't really mean what she says. I'm ready to accept that she lies with every word she speaks, but her performance as Sectretary of State does not give me reason to think that the "real" Hillary! wouldn't make things worse than they already are. Sensible people who support Tromp don't believe that he really proposes to require all Muslims in America to get on a registry.
I think Tromp would be a terrible president with respect to terrorism, because I don't think his skills suit him to creating the kind of international coalition we need to fight IS and its ilk. But I see no reason to believe that Hillary! wouldn't be worse.
On this Thanksgiving Day, I thank God that there are other options, if we Americans are wise enough to choose them.
"Oh, God. If we do elect a Republican president, are we in for another four years of Chimpy McBushHitler taunts treated as serious political commentary?"
Yes. And much worse. I have come to believe the Libs will not accept the election of a Republican president in 2016. Their repudiation of and constant opposition to a Republican administration will be much, much worse than anything seen during the Bush presidency. Think civil war, 21st Century version.
This is another case where what Trump says is basically true. We do need better tracking of terrorist activities. Paris provided a tragic but needed corrective to the government-shouldn't-spy nonsense of recent years.
Unfortunately, Trump does it in his inimical, ignorant-of-history style that excites his worshipful fans and turns off most everyone else.
I never really cared for Trump, but i never knew he was a straight up fascist either
1) Trump is about as far from being a Fascist as possible. As far as the Fascists are concerned, Trump is the ultimate enemy.
2) If you were trying to call Trump a NAZI, that's false too. People like Trump were tools to the NAZIs.
3) If you were trying to say that Trump would be an authoritarian dictator, He couldn't possibly be worse than the current president.
4) There is no possible way to disparage the Republicans for supporting Trump while the Democrats are supporting Hillary. The Democratic sin is much worse in every way.
It is refreshing to see someone running for office who: ..does not project how desperately and deeply he believes the office is due him; ..speaks clearly and to the point, does not tip-toe around the subject for fear of offending anyone.
OK, the man is shameless with hyperbole. Frankly it's easier to deal with than the obfuscations and empty words of Obama, Hillary, and most others.
The "Stump for Trump Ladies" seem at ease with it. Sit back and enjoy.
"The Constitution says both are allowed as free speech. But the Constitution does not rule at Trump rallies. Security rules. Just as he promised. And so the black man was kicked and punched. Trump looked down upon him with lofty disdain. “Get him the hell out of here!” Trump said. “Throw him out.” The man was led away.
right. Because prior to Trump NO ONE who was a heckler was ever led away. I'm pretty sure even Obama had hecklers ejected. This is what's passing for criticism? It's pretty much standard that if there is a heckler he or she will have security drag them out, often kicking and screaming. This is so common I could pull up countless links highlighting this very thing. Yet, here it's suddenly behpyond the pale beciase it's Trump and because the heckler is black.
Is Roger Simon an actual journalist? He's writing as if he's seized with bush derangement syndrome where security becomes akin to a police state. Will he next be making the argument "giving up freedom for a little security gives you neither? Is he going to start screening the movie V for Vendetta out of his office. Holy crap, the unthinkable thing he mentions is kicking a heckler out of a speech. Get a grip Roger, You are an adult, not some college kid at an anti war rally.
Also, what does he mean things "we haven't done before" we've done them before, if you have a security apparatus in place, those are the types of things we do. And we have a security apparatus in place. Trump says he'd bring back water boarding. Despite Obama's claims to the contrary, I bet we never got rid of watsrboarding. We just outsourced it to Egypt. But it's still being done. We just do a better job making sure no one in the room has a camera.
"First they came for the black people, and I did not speak out, because I was not black.
Then they came for the Muslims, and I did not speak out, because I was not a Muslim."
Actually, the only people I see them coming for are the white Christians. And Roger Simon does not speak out, because he is a liberal. Which, as Robert Frost said, is "a man too broadminded to take his own side in a quarrel". More exactly, Simon is an "eat-me-last" liberal, the kind that expects to can save himself by feeding his betters to the Beast. I am sure he is careful to arrange his affairs so that neither black crime nor Muslim terror will reach him and his. Then he climbs on his soapbox, and damns the rest of us, because we don't care to serve as the buffer between him and the enemies of civilization.
This is one of the things I seriously dig about Trump. He drives people like Garage crazy. And these idiots at political go to sleep crying and setting their beds, trying to figure out where the safe spaces went.
The really sad part is, they can't say a word against Trump or any Republican. They've stayed silent about Obama and Hillary and now they have no credibility.
"Certain people will be registered. Their houses of worship will be spied upon. Names will be taken down. But as long as these people are not Christians, do you really care? Trump is betting you do not."
oh you mean like how certain republican businesses were targeted by the IRS? Did YOU care Roger? I certainly didn't see the huffington post article.
When I saw this, I thought, oh maybe this is finally "something" to be concerned about. Then I read the article.
This is why satire is dead. After seven years of lawlessness and con and lying in the White House, the administration, the IRS etc, they're suddenly worried about facism? Ho Ho Ho.
So Writ Small says Trump is ignorant of history? I happen to agree.
But the problem is that around 99 and 44/100th percent of the US population (to use the old Dial soap figure) are ignorant of history. And the liberals and progressive types probably tip the dial to a full 100% ignorance. All you have to do is look at the screaming whiners taking over colleges today and realize that historical ignorance is the current American Way.
I'm not a Trump fan--he's just another blowhard. But he's got lots of company in the current political class. Folks need to wake up and smell the coffee and figure that the Donald is likely to be there in the morning--and for many more mornings to come.
What would happen if we were faced with a Trump versus Hillary presidential election next year? It's time to pull out the two word version of history. "Jesus wept".
Led away? Al Franken assaulted a guy and the Democrats were so outraged they elected him to the Senate. Elected after they "found" enough ballots, after the polls were closed.
The alternative to intrusive security in the US is basically a genocidal war of attrition against entire populations worldwide, so hey, I am all for trying a few years of other ideas first, before the nukes fly to Riyadh, Tehran, Damascus, and other cities. Because I am tolerant and compassionate, not a murderous zealot, this seems reasonable to me.
For the same reason, regarding Israel, Palestinians still live in the West Bank and Gaza, and Assad sits in his strife torn Syria.
Let us hope the world does not change so significantly that we in the US, or our Israeli allies, change our minds about this.

As if hecklers aren't removed from Clinton rallies.
1st Amendment rules at public functions; not at private rallies.
What Simon claims Trump will do as president is a page torn from the anti-Tea Party strategy of Obama and the Democrats.
Something must be done. This is something. Therefore, this must be done.

I wonder if weaponizing the federal bureaucracy to the degree the left has done against conservatives counts as something not seen before.
But thats cool. Those guys are conservatives as opposed to tertorists bent on murdering us.

Damn right. We're gonna fight the Commie Leftist punks in the streets, in the schools, in the boardrooms, in the bureaucracy.
