The military well knows how to cancel the results of an election. Here's hoping they don't. Suu Kyi's election is a good sign, but the situation in Burma is very complicated and dangerous. This is the beginning, not the end of the drama.
If Myanmar descends into chaos and civil war, will the Chinese step in to stabilize the situation, as they did in Tibet in 1959? Why not?
The US ain't gonna stop 'em, at least until January 2017, and not then if Hillary wins. Obama? Don't make Putin and Xi laugh any harder, they'll hurt themselves.
FWIW, if anybody still cares, the (former, and maybe current, or future) Burmese military regime is a leftover of the post-WWII wave of leftist/nationalist/anti-western anti-colonialism. And of course it was a totalitarian regime from the start. The military aspects of this are just the mechanism of the totalitarian regime. These were not, originally, professional soldiers, as Burma had no real army. Its just that you can't make a 1984 regime without guns. And the Western left were perfectly happy cheering on this gang back when they were going strong.

Well, for one, Tibet has been occupied by the Chi-Coms since 1951. Last I looked, Burma has not.

The internet strikes.
So it's not just a grass roots rebellion in the United States? Interesting.
Yes, the internet strikes. The government is, right now, using Google to search "How to cancel the results of an election."
North Korea take notice

Daw Aung San Suu Kyi is one tough lady. Here's hoping she'll succeed and the generals will show good sense.
I was struck by the fact that the post did not comment on her dress style.

V interested your take on Burma. Major WWII theater, little known. Don't understand a lot about WWII in SEA.

We haven't won a war since 1945.
We have more pressing problems now: safe spaces. We're still working on that though. Check back in 30 years.
