The resurgence in the popularity of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk in this decade is a response to Islamic fundamentalism. Once people get a taste of civilization, it's hard to go back to living like animals.

I, for one, would like to see such "othering" performed as strongly in US politics, just for grins. Hillary would be openly scorned for her support of her husband's adulteries, Trump would be ridiculed for his combover, Biden would be treated like a senile uncle, Sanders would be returned to his Senate office under sedation. And the US would be better for it.
