At the Jet Lag Café...

P1140717

... I'm still on Pacific Time, but I'll be fully back soon. Watching the Sunday morning shows with Meade. Meanwhile, carry on. Talk about whatever you like.

It's been a loooong hot summer in SoCal, and it's supposed to be a loong wet winter. Hopefully we get lots of snow too.

Good grief ! Jet lag occurs going west, not east !

No wonder you don't like travel.

No lame, boring stuff. Only Trump.

If Althouse had a seven million dollar helicopter and a 757, flying wouldn't be so bad.

The Washington Times says at least 60 classified emails arrived on Hillary's private mail server (via Drudge).

Two weeks ago a navy reservist was convicted of mishandling classified materials. He apparently downloaded some data from an authorized system to which he had legal access to his person devices (tablet, notebook, and/or thumb drive). He got two years probation and a fine of $7,500 (the cost of one of the Hildabeest's panzoots plus a haircut).

Why hasn't Hillary been charged with a similar violation? The evidence is in.

Rendering and reconstructing in ship curves (rulers), pencil, pen and India ink Sir Francis Drake's ship The Golden Hind for the 450th anniversary of the founding of St Augustine now a city of artists, musicians and well heeled gypsies in sailboats. Sir Francis sailed in and burned the place to the ground in 1586. The King and Queen of Spain will be here - not sure how they will cotton to the remembered ravages of the English. Love tweaking the nose's of my betters. Golf on television and art. A quiet afternoon and then a sunset sail aboard my English Rose on the St Johns river. Life is sweet in retirement.

It means Christmas when the rain usually hits first.

First openly gay baseball player is in the Brewers' organization.

Traveling east causes more problems than traveling west because the body clock has to be advanced, which is harder than delaying it.

Actually, Denson is not the first openly gay player in baseball, but the first associated with the Major Leagues. A pitcher for an Independent League team came out last season.

In Peru, where the phenomenon was first noted.

While El Nino does bring some extra rain to the US West Coast, it's not an enormous boost. What they need is a few of those "Pineapple Express" patterns; huge atmospheric streams of rain coming out of the Pacific from near Hawaii.

The southwest has a long geological history of mega droughts; only the last several hundred years that the Spanish and then the Americans settled that have been abnormally moist. California needs to think seriously about water.

El Nino means a lack of hurricanes developing off Cape Verde. Cooler waters and wind shear stop development. As a surfer I want hurricanes to line up like Rockettes kicking their way across the Atlantic for the swells they generate. As a home owner in Florida its a live hate relationship. Could surf the waves of my life and lose everything I own.

Jet lag over two time zones? Drama queen.

@ Michael K Just read your recommended "The Unraveling". She's not a great writer, but the message is clear. We had created a chance for the Iraqis to make a decent country and the change of administrations in the US led to a failure of resolve that resulted in the mess we see today. I find most shocking that we are prepared to "make a deal" with the Iranians who have clearly been undermining us since the beginning of the Iraq undertaking. From Sky's point of view the failure in Iraq can fairly be laid upon the Obama administration. I am amazed she will be allowed to lecture at Yale!

OK but not my experience. If you want real jet lag fly to Australia. The only solution is to stay awake and go hiking for hours like an Aussie friend once insisted. That worked.

Isn'y that Emma Sky book interesting ? She was opposed to the war and learned about Iraq as she was there.

My current feeling is "Thank God for Fracking !" We will be free of our decades long dependence on oil from the hell hole. The British started it by converting from coal to oil when Churchill was running the Royal Navy.

Now, if we can just get rid of the enviroNazis.

I can't speak for Oregon or Washington, but in SoCal it does indeed mean significantly more rain. We're just hoping it also means more snow, because snow is more useful at refilling our reservoirs.

I can't believe no one got the "El Nino is the Nino" joke made by the late, great, and hilarious Chris Farley. Geez. You people need to lighten up.

"From the historical record alone, it is clear that there never is a 100% confidence in an above-average, below-average or average rainfall forecast, even if there is an El Niño or La Niña. The best we can say is that there is a tilt in the odds in one direction or another. "

Correct me if I'm wrong, but that Muhammad Ali tag refers to the statue of the boxer, I assume. But the boxer is Joe Louis, isn't it? Louis was a longtime casino greeter, one of the big attractions of the early years of Vegas. It sure looks like Joe, not Ali.

Why do writers use "voluptuous" to mean "big boobed"?

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/bandage-dress-not-for-voluptuous-women-lesbians-herve-leger-director-says_55d0dc67e4b0ab468d9d9927?kvcommref=mostpopular

I actually means "sensuous," which could apply to small-boobed or even flat-chested women, depending on taste. The term can even refer to a man or a wine or a holiday.

Michael K said...

"Have you ever gone to Europe?"

Many times and I will again in 3 weeks. Jet lag is always worse going home.

You're welcome.

I've been to Australia twice in the last two years and have had the same experience vis-a-vis jet lag. Taking into account daylight savings time when I traveled, Sydney was 9 hours behind Madison (the fact that it's also "tomorrow" is irrelevant to this discussion). Both times I had no problem when I arrived in Oz but upon returning home it took many days for my clock to resync.
