But perhaps an exception should be made for a great late night talk show host. The funnyman's mood and ego need boosting. Just as he must have an office full of people who can write jokes and comic routines — who must share a lot of not-that-businesslike camaraderie — he needs pretty ladies to keep his senses well-honed. It's part of the structure of a business that revolves around a performer. The funnyman needs his supply of sex, and the paying career positions on the staff can be used to create a pool of potential sexual partners who will keep the old man bolstered up.

Letterman's a creepy old jerk, but he has power and influence, so of course the sanctimonious gasbags of the entertainment industry will forgive any indiscretion. It is only when someone loses their influence that we can see the moral preeners finally descend on him like jackals.
For all of Fey's feminist posturing, she respects actual power and influence, and to stay on the right side of the right people, so she can wax moralistic about Bill Cosby because he has no power or influence that matters to her, but will forgive Letterman because he still has power (even with his upcoming retirement).
This is what fauxminism has wrought. A world ready for Hillary!

I have long thought that Tina Fey would be a unanimous selection to the Hall of Fame wing of the Academy of the Overrated.
Tina Fey isn't a feminist, she just plays one on TV.
I'm sure Fey has addressed the fact that in her own life her move from relatively-obscure writer to on-air talent (with the attendant massive increase in her personal fame and wealth) happened right around the time she got into much better shape physically and started dressing better/sexier--it's not hypocrisy per se for an outspoken feminist (or "feminist") to follow that trajectory, but it is at least interesting to note the arc from "I'm valuable for my mind and my talents so the world shouldn't care what I look like and it's sexist to insist it does/should" to "now that I'm in the public eye I'd better look and dress well in order to advance my career."

Despite her one-time status as Chairwoman of the "liberal" Hive's Agitprop Division (Comedy Unit), I used to find Fey attractive (she looked great in DATE NIGHT) and had fantasies about banging the statism out of her. Seeing her strip, however, freed me from that fantasy.

Okay, I watched that. I give up. What are Amy Schumer and Bill Hader spoofing... other than Letterman generally. There was no stripping in that clip. So I still think it's the famous old Barrymore thing.
The Schumer-Hader thing was good, I guess, if you need help seeing what's bad about actresses on talk shows.

I finally actually watched the whole Tina Fey clip. Boy, did that go on painfully long! They should have cut to commercial much sooner. She was stuck just standing there in her bra and Spanx for so long, with nothing really to do, sort of posing... as if it wasn't awkward, unpleasant, and un-pretty. Especially given Letterman's history.
The Schumer-Hader was much better, except for throwing white liquid on her in the end. Schumer is expressing contempt for women... women who deserve it. I'm not sure if she's able to get credit for being a feminist. I don't watch her show, but I read a New Yorker article about it.
The New Yorker piece on Schumer is subtitled "The raucous feminist humor of 'Inside Amy Schumer,'" so that must mean it's supposed to be feminist, but:

That isn't stripping. There wasn't any more skin showing after the so-called strip than there was before.
Sometimes even skilled comedians/writers fall flat.
The Amy Schumer bit is every young starlet on these types of late night shows. The flirting, the Host saying I am leaving my wife for you (Conan) ..the shiny legs...and the outfits. Perhaps it's a bit too inside. I am sure the producers of those shows give a lot of direction. The girls talk about their dogs and say what nerds they are in real life. The last few years Amy is on every one of those shows 2x a year. Perhaps Dave had requirements for women and hence Tina will not be needing shoulder to knee girdles.
I liked Tina Fey's show, 30 Rock. The jokes were funny, and she was likable. That said, there was a lot of product placement for the Democratic Party talking points. They subordinated the talking points to the jokes mostly, but less so around the time of the Presidential election. Letterman's monologues were relentlessly partisan. I don't especially like him, but he knows how to deliver a line and get a laugh. You can be sure that if a Republican says or does something stupid, there will be plenty of jokes about it. Only when a Dem becomes a buffoon of Weiner's dimension does he become a fit subject for comedy.......They complain
about the influence of the Koch brothers' money in politics. How much money would it take for the Koch brothers to bribe every late night comedian and sitcom star in America to dump on the Democratic Party?
