Heh. When we had a black German Shepherd growing up, we had its hair cut short every spring. Even when it was old, old, old, it looked like a puppy with the short hair.
You do know that those long coats help dogs stay cool in the summer, right?
It's counterintuitive because humans use an entirely different cooling system than dogs do -- sweat vs panting. (*)
It's like the insulation on your house in the summer -- if you're cooling the house by opening windows, the insulation hurts. If you're cooling the house with air conditioning, the insulation helps.
(*) Yes, I know dogs sweat on the surface of their paws. Doesn't change the point.
All that said, some really cute dogs, before *and* after.
If Althouse ever goes full dog, and I know she's not going to go full dog, she just wants to borrow the dogs, but if she ever goes full dog, I am seeing a little dog bias in Althouse, and a big dog bias in Meade. Uh-oh!
"You do know that those long coats help dogs stay cool in the summer, right?"
I agree but my golden retriever lived in an air conditioned house and in summer would get "hot spots" where she rubbed the hair off and scratched until it bled. She was happier with the shave and it grew out by fall. She didn't have fleas, it was just the hot dry weather.
SaintCroix, you are correct about the little/big bias but I don't see us ever going full dog. Owning a dog is a huge responsibility. Not owning a dog is a great freedom. Other people's dogs give us all the dog pleasure we require.

Whenever I get my hair cut, I always walk out of the barbershop uglier than when I walked in.

You have to be careful with some breeds that hair over their eyes shelter the eyes from too much light and cutting it can cause injury,
*sigh*

Alpacas cool themselves by rolling in dirt.
I keep myself cool by playing a Fender EP.

That's like me explaining why I'm still single!
Predictably, there will be a Lady and 4 puppies in your future, Tramp.

I have learned the hard way never to push a meatball with my nose. Women do not like that move. At all.
At least not in a restaurant.
