The most charming bookstores in the world...
.... here... including that one in DUMBO that fit the path of my wanderings 7 years ago during my exile in Brooklyn.

Those are some beautiful spaces, but for that I normally look to libraries. My favorite bookstores are a bit dank and hoarderish, dusty and musty. I don't want to pay extra for the decor, I want unusual books cheap.
For that, if you're in New York, you go to the Strand. (And if you are looking for a beautiful setting, you still don't go to DUMBO, you go to the research library on 42nd Street.)
Are there still places which market the big heavy wads of paper pages bound between hard boards. That seems so old fashioned.
But they make great coffee houses.
Charming?
That Portuguese bookstore looks like a toothed vagina.
"during my exile in Brooklyn"
Better: during my brief sojourn to civilization.
As for Brooklyn bookstores, DUMBO's is for 30-somethings. Bookcourt is for longer term residents who still read (if they aren't using the AA Amazon portal, that is).
Livraria Lello in Porto is the only one I've been to on that list. Very worthy of inclusion.
