"The mouth was wide open and ripped at the corners..."

"... as though she had choked a little in giving up the tremendous vitality she had stored so long."

A garish image of death... in today's ripped-out-of-context sentence from "The Great Gatsby."

We picture the soul tearing out of the body. And the grisly, horrible corpse. Is it laughing at us?

Gatsby? I thought it was a review of Joan Rivers.

Sounds like Raymond Chandler or Dashiell Hammett.

Or Ian Fleming.

A lot gutsier than Scotty.

So Gatsby killed the Black Dahlia?

Heh. Pogo says exactly what my thought was (more or less).

Is it laughing at us?

Most likely it is, of course. What point could there be, otherwise?

Drat, a dame in Gatsby's world has been drastically droned, or dramatically dragged, demonically drugged or deviously drowned in broad daylight.

Her lips ripped. It's not from liquid, or gas, it's from a solid.

Now, look closely at pussy lips. Yes, a disgusting part of the female anatomy, but it looks remarkably like a mouth (often like a slightly bearded male's mouth). What can happen, and often does, when a baby comes out of those lips, is they rip. That's what an episiotomy protects against. Did they have them in 1920?

So, in her death, her mouth was ripped open by the birth of something. Not her soul, I do not think. All she built up while not having a child.

Note, this is out of context, so I have no idea whether the woman was barren or not, let alone knowing what woman was involved. But that's my guess. She gave birth to something really big.

Meanwhile, for those who like to kid around, I'm reminded of the Joker with Jack Nicholson, with his big lipped women. Gotta love that Joker!

And also, my idea for a cool porn flick "Pussy Mouth," in which gorgeous busty women on an island with hungry pussy mouths (with a hidden big tongue) chase skinny men around. Sometimes the mouth bites if it doesn't get fed enough. The poor shipwrecked guy thinks he is in nirvana, until he realizes he can't keep up.

And why is Althouse using the word "Garish?" I thought it meant overtly showy, which it does. Althouse uses it like this: "A garish image of death." She could have used it with the Pope colors, but instead used it with death. I don't know, seems like one of these things is not like the other.

: clothed in vivid colors
2
a : excessively or disturbingly vivid
b : offensively or distressingly bright : glaring
3
: tastelessly showy : flashy
— gar·ish·ly adverb
— gar·ish·ness noun

It needn't be so garish and vivid as a bloody mouth that would result from a gangster-style Glasgow smile, no, it needn't be so garish as that. How about a billboard that's torn at the mouth, revealing a gasping billboard beneath it, and it just seems that long stored vitality is expired?

Those billboards, they're very melancholy sometimes.

Hey, does anyone have a droid app that is a corner-gashed mouth that speaks your words as you hold it in front of your face?

Got a reference? No idea what you are talking about.

So Gatsby killed the Black Dahlia?

Yep, I thought that too.

Naked Ed Gein Robot does NOT "the grisly, horrible corpse."

He sees an Opportunity.

In Steve Hodel's "Black Dahlia Avenger" he connects Man Ray to the murders (either inspiration or possibly more).

He parallels Man Ray's "Les Amoureux" and "Minotaur" (among other pieces) with the disfigurement of Elizabeth Short's body.

In an earlier Gatsby post Ann used -- you guessed it -- a Man Ray photograph (to illustrate an eyelash style).

Now this post.

I am connecting the dots, Ann.

Alas, I have to leave for work -- perhaps more to follow later?

Dante, yes, [glasgow smile] images.

So I start connecting the Man Ray - Althouse - Black Dahlia dots and now Ann's next sentence deconstruction is "A non-"Gatsby" sentence."

Hmmmm.

Please note: I am NOT accusing Ann of being the Black Dahlia Killer.

That would be reckless.

For now.

I will, however, predict that she will not use a Man Ray photograph for a Cafe post for the forseeable Future.

Cute Dog Pictures: that will throw them off her trail.

Does anyone remember that Wisconsin's football team was originally called the "Fightin' Black Dahlias?"

Just because I made that up doesn't mean that it is not Proof.

Constitutional Law.

Am I the only one who sees this?

I was talking to Ann about all of this on my Imaginary Truth Phone and she sounded Nervous.

The Truth is coming closer.

Ann would no doubt claim her Innocence based on the fact that she wasn't 'born yet'.

The "I Wasn't That Precocious' excuse.

I expect more from her.
