Both barrels are ported to reduce recoil.
I don't know what that gold thing is at the end of the muzzle.
Skeet shooting does not require full hunting type loads since a typical day, at lest for me, is 100 rounds.
You do go home with a bruised shoulder.
The top barrel appears to have an extender choke tube. Longish barrel for skeet. He is holding and sighting like it was a rifle and not a shotgun. Very awkward. I expect he is shooting outgoing trap.

This just looks fishy - and it has been noted already.
That butt looks like it is too high and is going to leave a mark given that it appears to be a 12 gauge with a nice kick. I remember my only time shooting clays, and I made the same mistake. Plus it seems that being able to raise the barrel above a 35 - 45 deg angle would be difficult.
And how the heck does the photographer capture the exact moment the smoke is being pushed? Smoke lingering post-shot would be more likely.
According to the exif data linked to by kimsh, the pix was ran through Photoshop in the Macintosh. That doesn't necessarily mean anything. Photos are frequently ran through Photoshop for cropping and exposure adjustment. But, again, why the blurred background?
Ported to reduce recoil would be something like a muzzle-brake, which apparently is done, but does not look like it here.
This may be ported through the rib to reduce the muzzle "jump," since the smoke, or whatever it is, looks to be either straight up or off to his right.
Again, has anyone seen "smoke" like this from a shotgun?
It's time to [re]watch Mel Brooks History of the World. "they stink on ice"
"Part of being able to move this forward is understanding the reality of guns in urban areas are very different from the realities of guns in rural areas."
Urban areas like Washington DC or Chicago, I suppose...
Comments on Hot Air say it is a Winchester 101 (FN), and it does look like it, but the ported picture I looked at shows ports on both sides at approximately 30 degrees upward angle.
Also says you can get smoke like that if you are shooting blanks, or some kind of custom shell.
"But, again, why the blurred background?"
Because it was taken with a 70-200 zoom at f/4 racked out to 170mm. That's a pretty bog standard sports setup, with gives you good subject separation/isolation while still having some DOF to work with. Since it was captured with a Canon 5D Mark III, the photographer probably machine gunned through a shot at 6 FPS, and picked the best one.
If Obama does shot skeet 'all the time' someone should really security clear a trainer ASAP. As someone who out weighs the President by a significant margin, even shooting gun club powder puffs that upright and with his legs that vertical will get old really quick. Part of the reason you lean in is to get the swing coming from legs/hips, as opposed to the shoulders. What's on display is a rifle shooting stance. Also, as mentioned before, with no vest or shell bag (would be an awkward reach if he's a lefty and the shell were on the hidden hip) makes it a PITA. Maybe he's got a gun carrier out of frame.
Of course, it's entirely possible that the Secret Service set up a thrower the tosses them slowly, in a low arc, straight down the range, and since there's zero chance Barry will ever visit an actual competitive range, he thinks he's an awesome skeet shooter and the Secret Service doesn't have to worry about him doing something stupid.
This official White House photograph is being made available only for publication by news organizations and/or for personal use printing by the subject(s) of the photograph. The photograph may not be manipulated in any way...
...or else what?
"ECONOMY? PULL!" snort-giggle...
Can you name another presidency that publicly mocked citizens of his own country?!?
Obama's point was: I do shoot too all the time, I understand you. But this photo will not make gun owners, hunters etc. think he understands them - the exact opposite. They will see that he thinks that if he held a gun once (and held it wrong) he understands them. He's had the "gun experience." Maybe he's been in combat too. Next week's untouchable pic.
And was it him? And I'm surprised he didn't get a bruise on his face pressing up against a gun like that. But he didn't have bruise last August.
PS You can rent Camp David for a weekend one weekend a month. I found this out while searching the internet.
Thanks, Junyo. I'm aware of the technique, but not nearly as schooled as you. My camera will do that and I've done it a couple times. It just seems the blurring makes it easier to touch up the picture without it looking obvious.
At best, it seems a photo taken just for the purpose used. A John Kerry hunting type thing. At least Kerry served in Vietnam, no matter what his real record was, he knew how to shoot.
Not only that, I understand Obama is not really an American citizen.
I'm surprised that no-one seems to have pointed out that the date the White House gives for this photo is Aug 4th 2012. Aug 4th is Obama's birthday and the White House said he played golf all that day. When did he fit in the time to shoot skeet ? And if he really did shoot skeet that day why would he do something he obviously dislikes on his birthday ?
My doubts about the story: http://experiencedrivenlife.blogspot.com/2013/02/obama-skeet-shooter.html
I'm surprised no-one has mentioned the fact that the date the White House gave for this photo was 4th August 2012. The 4th August is Obama's birthday and the White House told us back in 2012 that Obama spent his birthday golfing. If that is true when did he fit in the time to shoot skeet ? And why do something he obviously hates on his birthday ?
This posed picture, complete with smoking gun, will rank right up their with the Bill and Hill Classic.
Yay another distraction. It is like there is some great calamity just out of sight they don't want us to know or think about. Like they are trying to avoid some subject... What could it be? Trying to pass gun control that won't even come up for a vote in the senate because Reid needs the NRA support he got last time? The only reason they would have a vote on this in the house is to make some dems squirm and embarrass the prez. No, this is a way to keep the country from talking about something. Don't know what it could be though. Very mysterious. Maybe starts with an R. Second letter is an e. Rest sounds like cession. Going to be tough to blame this one on Bush too. Maybe they can blame it on the sequester! Definitely not on Obamacare though. Or President Downgrade either. Here it comes everyone time to bend over..
As a group ("Conservatives"), our premise has been weak on this.
Skeet shooting? Discussion around one of our fundamental civil rights has been reduced to recreation?

You don't shoot skeet, do you.
The president makes an attempt to appear like one of the guys. A regular gun totin' joe. And managed to fuck it up.
Like you did with your comment.
