Either way, we'll end up with a president who will expand government spending, increase the debt, use military force unnecessarily against other countries, support the arrests of people whose only crime was smoking, ignore our civil liberties with things like the patriot act, etc.
This is by far the closest I have ever watched an election. I don't think I'll do it again. I feel like tomorrow is the last day of work before a big vacation.
Below is link to relatively discouraging report from Romney insiders. Pretty good indication the "leak" of the internal poll showing plus 1 in Ohio was a fake or a feint. My hope is the Wisconsin/Colorado path saves the day.
One positive note is that the Gallup and hopefully other Obama upticks in national polling were generated on the East Coast, where there are no swing states (other than relatively unhit VA and NH).
Suprising that purported guru Silvers put so much hype in them, but then he obviously is all in at this point.
I most assuredly shall. When I was just a wee small badger, my grandparents lived Cokato, MN. Nearby Dassell, MN has a huge hatchery. They have a large chick out in front of the hatchery, and my Mom and my Aunt tell me that when I was around 2 or so, whenever we would rive by the chick, I would point to it, and yell AWK-AWK!
I go to the local Pizza Ranch on Weds. for the buffet. Their pizza is adequate, but the chicken is superb. So let us hope on Wednesday, I shall be snarfing down the AWK-AWK of victory, rather than the salad bar of despair.
I actually had a candidate for city council knock on my door yesterday and personally make a pitch to vote for him. That's the first time that's ever happened to me.

Psychologists tell us that during times of prolonged stress and emotional fatigue felt continuously on a subconscious level over time leads to depression and anxiety.
Short diversions are recommended that transport and momentarily refocus the individual off troubling matters and onto simpler things of truth and beauty and goodness thus a psychological realignment occurs and the person is better able to pick up with daily life on a balanced and even keel.
Aaaaaw I just made that up. Pimping the birds. They're cute. From around here, up there by Red Rocks in Morrison. You make noise like that and ping the birds just cut out. But this time of year they are already long gone.
Good Morning from the great Battleground state of Oiho. I'm getting ready to do my poll worker thing, ready to deliver a forearm shiver into the noggin of anyone that wants to cast a provisional ballot in my precinct contra the established rules and reasons.
I'm still predicting that there will be no winner announced tonight. Ohio will have a half a million provisionals that can't even be counted for 11 more days. If it's as close as some predict, the outcome will be in those provisionals. That's your Help America Vote Act at work.
I was so depressed about the federal situation, I almost didn't vote even with the absentee right in front of me. But I finally filled it out and I'm glad I did. The other measures were definitely something I would want a say in, however small.
" … When you go to the polls, remember that we are broke. Whatever they promise you, those are just promises. Like money printed out of nothing, it means nothing. The perfect is the enemy of the good, Tim. Will Romney further tarnish the name of capitalism? Got me. At some point, however, I have to stop worrying about what people will think in 8 years and start looking at actual policies.
I do know with absolute certainty that voting for Ron Paul would have been as useful as voting for Ronald Reagan. And that sitting at home and sulking about how awful everyone is while stupid people ruin the country will make things worse.
If POTUS Obama wins, then two things have happened:
- SANDY == OCTOBER SURPRISE
- PRESS, esp. NYT == DECIDER
NB: I mentioned on Monday last that Sandy was the October surprise and that it will left Obama pass Benghazi silence. I also have said many times how NYT has made itself the conscience of voters.
NB2: I voted for Romney on Friday week before last.
Let us see what happens today. I am prepared to start crying.
You know what's really good before a long day of waiting in line to vote? A nice hot plate of biscuits and gravy, that's what. This is chicken gravy with chunks of shredded roasted chicken. Can you stand it?
Recommendation: avoid coffee. You know, it's not good for you. Works on your nerves. Your poor little nerves. Your last good nerves. Better to have something mild that won't make you break out of line to go have wee. Something like Ovaltine.
I early-voted last Thursday here in Florida. I was wise enough to fill out my sample ballot in advance, since I knew that the ballot was four pages, front and back (the last one was blank), so having my picks on the sample ballot really sped up the process of filling in the ballot. I showed up fifteen minutes before the polls opened and was done by 7:30, for a total of 45 minutes. And I voted for every last Republican, from Romney down to the county commissioners, becaus if Obama is re-elected (God forbid!) I don't want him to have any more friends to help him.
We have learned, despite the best efforts of the 'press', about what 'CHANGE' means in the hearts of Obama and the progressives that have hijacked a once proud democrat party.
It is their intention to cede American sovereignty to the globalists and the UN.
In short, America as we have known it, is in the final stages of life. The America-hating self-loathing progressives began their assault almost 100 years ago under Woodrow Wilson, and have 'progressively' pushed America 'forward', towards the brink of doom in the form of crippling debt.
Liberty must be tirelessly defended. Yes, our freedoms have been incrementally eroded by progressives, but today, they will hear us.
Be confident, for voting today is our expression of freedom.
I don't think the story about claiming victory early will pan out. It just seems like a silly risk to take and would make the winner seem small. I expect the news networks to play it safe and not call VA or FL for quite a bit.
Remember, also, that next to April Fool's Day, Election Day is one of the biggest times for false stories to get play. Slashed tires, illegal electioneering, etc., etc.
Be skeptical, stay frosty and demand proof before repeating rumors you hear. I don't doubt people on both sides will do some shady things, but without proof, rumor mongering won't help your candidate.
“Elections belong to the people. It's their decision. If they decide to turn their back on the fire and burn their behinds, then they will just have to sit on their blisters.” ― Abraham Lincoln
I'll be voting around lunchtime. Generally, voting on election day seems to be easier than early voting (many, many more precincts available!) so hopefully I can get in and out.
Also, I get a kick out of the little old lady registrars checking a big book with my name in it.
I found it weird that as soon as I said my name, both the D- and R- poll watcher scanned through their strike lists. The R- poll watcher's face lit up as he could strike my name off. I think this is going to be a fun day for one of them.
Here's the line at my polling place 30 minutes before voting starts...in 34 degree weather. Most of these people are Romney votes; they told me as much.
The more power we give to government or allow it to acquire then the more important it is who controls that power which is yet another reason for less government.
I saw on Fox News how Home Depot prepared in advance for the storm as compared to Fema. Guess which one was better prepared to have what was needed where it was needed. The private sector has a better understanding of the law of supply and demand. Think about this example, despite a limited supply of gas, New York officials foolishly increased the demand by announcing free gas thus quickly running out of their limited supply.
Nice catch on Johnson's rationale for voting Libertarian. I suppose being a lawyer allows you not to get an obsessional neurosis in noticing such things. Less irreverently, it appears that voting Libertarian means you think the government should manufacture 2 different brands of marijuana cigarettes. That way you have the freedom to choose.
Did you notice down there in a previous thread, recent, a few down, a commenter said something about racism that was challenged. I think the original comment was something about our splendidly interracially mixed country being fundamentally racist to its core. That was challenged, and then the part where my attention arrested the commenter persisted, "can I just get someone here to agree that there is at least one single racist person in this country?"
Is that a stunning thing to ask?
It sounded positively biblical.
That's an episode in the book of J, the Jahwist, portions of the first five books lifted identified through a unique use of language.
Part of it's strangeness is Abraham negotiating with God. Will you destroy the good with the wicked? And God goes, What good? There isn't any good down there in those two cities. And Abraham is terrified and fearfully suggests there might be. And God is all, WHAT? Find me 100 and I'll spare 'em and Abraham goes okay.
Oops. Then Abraham started to worry. Maybe he'd have trouble finding 100 in time so he starts bartering, 50 45 30, each time thinking he's really pushing it and God might just clobber him, it's bit comical and quit pathetic, written in a sarcastic tone. The writer could work of Jon Stewart today. Eventually Abraham gets down to one. Find one good man. The comment today was like that in reverse. Surely there's one racist in America.
Not to nit pick your poll watching but that kind of poll is spelled p o l e. Ahh, the vagaries of a mispent youth. And middle age. And old age.
@Tinglesman
If Zero looses, I predict many many lawsuits. It's what they do. It's ingrained in every neuron in their brain...something didn't work out like you wanted? Get the gubment to fix it for ya'.
I'm seeing more than one place reporting about the Republican poll watchers being kicked out in PA and replaced with uh... apparently New Black Panther members, so, maybe my warnings of taking those reports with a grain of salt was a bit pre-emptive, since it may very well turn out to be true. Or not. Someone'll post pictures soon enough if true.
Longest lines I ever saw. This was pre-work voting.
I'm not saying this was a good or bad sign for either side. Our town is pretty evenly split Dem/Rep, an that includes an even split amongst the go-to-work crowd.
I voted. My precinct is in the heart of left-wing lunatic land, but mirable dictu! the Republicans had four volunteers handing out sample ballots and were fortified with coffee and donuts while the Democrats had one, forlorn, lady handing out sample ballots. In the sixteen years I've lived in Northern Virginia it's always been the other way 'round at this precinct.
Inside the lines to vote were 10-12 people long. And there were at least as many Republican sample ballots clutched in people's hands as Democrat.
I was certain that Romney-Ryan would win Virginia handily, but the notion that this very left-of-center precinct might be even close to competitive for Republicans is simply amazing.
They say Obama will win big early in the day, then people will get off work and vote and It'll swing to Romney. Are there enough people who still have jobs?
Remember, also, that next to April Fool's Day, Election Day is one of the biggest times for false stories to get play. Slashed tires, illegal electioneering, etc., etc.
Be skeptical, stay frosty and demand proof before repeating rumors you hear. I don't doubt people on both sides will do some shady things, but without proof, rumor mongering won't help your candidate.
After watching so many retired and elderly people queue up long before the polling places opened, I'm confident that Romney will win Wisconsin quite easily. These people didn't have to get up early and wait in the cold but they did.
Here's why Romney will win: - Dem turnout numbers down - WI, MI, MN, PA suddenly in MOE or actual ties in the last week of election, when polling accuracy becomes more important to the companies than propaganda - President Obama (Mr Cool) crying - that President Obama said "Voting is the best revenge" is what someone who knows he can't win says - the sullen look on his face as he said "Voting is the best revenge" - last-minute campaigning and ad buys in IA, PA, OH, WI, MI, MN for both campaigns mean Romney is surging in these "firewall" states. If Obama were going to win the battle would be in Missouri, Florida, North Carolina, Montana, Nebraska (for the split vote) - The Obama Campaign telling supporters during conference call to not worry if early totals show Romney up - Obama drew 4k to Cleveland a few days ago, where he drew 80k 4 years ago - Obama underdrawing expectations in Madisaon - the fact that Obama spent several key hours the day before the election campaigning in Madison (!!!) - Romney has been drawing crowds that endure uncomfortable weather to exceed expectations AND venue capacity - EPA rushing to complete plans to enact regulations during lame duck period should Obama lose - Obama tired, flinty, bitter vs Romney relaxed, happy, calm - No one disputes Romney is winning independents by 22 points - Obama apparently cannibalized its solid voters for the early vote, rather than new/sporadic voters; Romney has eroded the lead using sporadic/new/weak voters, saving the solid voters for today
The daughter reported that she arrived at 7:03 and the line was out the door. And that the machine that eats the ballot was broken. So people were just leaving ballots in the care of the pollworkers, and that was that. I think the pollworkers were waiting on someone with a key or something.
Just voted in east Tosa. About 10 minute wait. I heard on the radio that turnout in GOP areas is huge...not so much in DNC areas. Of course a lot of DNC voters need to sober up first....
Last night I dreamed that Obama was my dentist. I like going to the dentist, so there was no negative connotation there. He was a very good dentist. Very phlegmatic.
I voted here in Lake County, Illinois around 10 am. I didn't have to wait in line, but I had good timing. There was no one in my letter line, then no one at the precinct line, and an open booth just as I needed one. The machine that eats the ballots was open just as I got there too. I had one lady ask to see if there were initials on my ballot. There were three machines to eat ballots, two precincts to each machine, so the guy at the machine made sure my number matched the machine.
I've never seen that kind of crowd at 10 am. The pollworkers told me that it's been steady all morning and there was a line at 6 am when they opened.
I'm in the new 10th CD (it was 8th before). There's actually a chance that the 10th could make the difference for Illinois in this election. It's a long, long shot, but there is hope for change.

Don't know if I can sleep.
Finally, the election fatigue will be over.
Stay cheerful Tim.

Bin there dunit.
Rather, I'd like to take my camera and a few good lenses and do some poll watching and some good solid reporting.
And then I realized they probably won't appreciate me bringing a camera into the dance club but I could still have a few drinks and watch the girls.
@wyo sis
I'm almost always cheerful, but when the government gets involved nothing good ever happens.

Be forewarned.

Just voted here in PA.
On a related note there are reports of Dems. kicking Rep. poll watchers out of polling places.
I don't think the story about claiming victory early will pan out. It just seems like a silly risk to take and would make the winner seem small. I expect the news networks to play it safe and not call VA or FL for quite a bit.

I didn't vote for either of the fraternal twins of Wall Street being fronted by the two long-discredited major parties.

Vote #96, Ward #98. About a 25 minute wait in line. Not bad.
Have exercised my right to complain for 4 more years. No sitting on blisters here in the land of Lincoln.

My Final Prediction:
Romney 310 / Obama 228
Note: Romney up 92K in OH early voting?
Here's why Romney will win:
- Dem turnout numbers down
- WI, MI, MN, PA suddenly in MOE or actual ties in the last week of election, when polling accuracy becomes more important to the companies than propaganda
- President Obama (Mr Cool) crying
- that President Obama said "Voting is the best revenge" is what someone who knows he can't win says
- the sullen look on his face as he said "Voting is the best revenge"
- last-minute campaigning and ad buys in IA, PA, OH, WI, MI, MN for both campaigns mean Romney is surging in these "firewall" states. If Obama were going to win the battle would be in Missouri, Florida, North Carolina, Montana, Nebraska (for the split vote)
- The Obama Campaign telling supporters during conference call to not worry if early totals show Romney up
- Obama drew 4k to Cleveland a few days ago, where he drew 80k 4 years ago
- Obama underdrawing expectations in Madisaon
- the fact that Obama spent several key hours the day before the election campaigning in Madison (!!!)
- Romney has been drawing crowds that endure uncomfortable weather to exceed expectations AND venue capacity
- EPA rushing to complete plans to enact regulations during lame duck period should Obama lose
- Obama tired, flinty, bitter vs Romney relaxed, happy, calm
- No one disputes Romney is winning independents by 22 points
- Obama apparently cannibalized its solid voters for the early vote, rather than new/sporadic voters; Romney has eroded the lead using sporadic/new/weak voters, saving the solid voters for today
I'll add more if I think of additional ones.
I voted last week.
Last night Andy R dreamed that Obama was his proctologist. But why should last night be different than any other night?
I voted last week. Are you telling me to do it again?
That may be the first time a politician has been in one of my dreams.
Yes, it's election day, and let's accept the shame we deserve for allowing this...AGAIN:

I'm glad that turned out to be an OK dream. My initial picture was Obama asking you, "Is it safe?!"
Hint: It's not safe. Romney >+5

WTF? What is this, Iran?
I think Obama missed his calling.
