"France to close embassies in fear of cartoon backlash."

In 20 Muslim countries. The cartoons, published today in a satirical French publication called Charlie Hebdo, "show the Prophet Mohammed naked and refer to the incendiary US-made film which has been fueling deadly unrest among Muslim communities for over a week."

ADDED: This post and the earlier post today about David Letterman saying "You haven't seen me naked" to Barack Obama make me want to quote this verse from an old Bob Dylan song:
While preachers preach of evil fates
Teachers teach that knowledge waits
Can lead to hundred-dollar plates
Goodness hides behind its gates
But even the president of the United States
Sometimes must have to stand naked
Hundred dollar plates? Man, that really is an old song. After the Letterman interview, Obama attended a $40,000-per-plate dinner!

Now that we're almost done with the diversion, why don't we discuss why Good King Bumblefuck and Hillary The Wisest Ever! ignored the specific warnings concerning the direct attacks on our embassies in Libya and Egypt and didn't secure them--or evacuate them to Europe--if they could not be secured in time. Hmm?

Furious, you are making less sense as the day wears on, Darrell, you actually are making a bit of sense.

Unlike what my friend Whores thinks, I'm not an Obama whore and if it can be proven in some sort of Congressional inquiry that they screwed up, then they deserve the fallout.

"Or do they just install a plaque in the lobby when you are totally wiped out?"

I hear the UN Study Group on Srebrenica has been reconstituted to see what they can do to protect the Copts. So at least there's some good news.

Congratulations to Charlie Hebdo for daring to take on the Jihadis.

Anybody got a link to the cartoons?

Here you go.

Charlie Hebdo's offices were firebombed the last time they did something like this. So kudos to them (and France) for bravery under fire.

Allie Oop ...let me repeat part of my last comment to you on the prior thread....

AllieOop said...

Aridog, on my daughter's Marine base they carry fully loaded weapons with them wherever they go ...[snip]... That base that was attacked was the base my daughter is on, Camp Leatherneck ...

" I'm pretty sure you know, likely to your dismay ... that even at Camp Leatherneck US Marines are disarmed from time to time ... for example: that is where Leon Panetta visited and US Marines were ordered to stack arms, including side arms, outside the speech area. Being the mother or father of a soldier in harm's way cannot be comforting.

That said, medics are the best of the best who have to go where the fire is already concentrated...no stealth involved. Not sure I could do that. "

On topic for this thread....

The Bastion/Leatherneck incursion was on one side of the base, right at the airstrip. It does confound me how it could happen as described, even with insurgents wearing US uniforms.

But one thing is certain, it was in no way spontaneous due to some video...not with the logistics and planning to don US uniforms and hit the fence in a vulnerable spot with the tools to penetrate it...all specifically on 9/11.

I'm not crazy about trouble making yappers when consequences can be tragic...however, I am far more concerned about how the Bastion incursion could happen at all. I think we've about wasted enough energy on nation building and touchy feely trust extending, and my disgust reaches all the way up the chain to CJCS. We are no longer feared enough...therefore, we are toast sooner or later if we do not change, or pull out.

And to make it clear, when I mention Copts I'm not referring to the film maker. I'm referring to news like this from last year, i.e not related by one iota to anything Nakoula might have done.

"Thousands of Muslims attacked and besieged Copts in elGhorayzat village, population 80,000, killing two Copts and severely wounding others, as well as looting and torching homes and businesses...

The events started on Monday, November 28, when John Hosni, a building supplier, had a quarrel with his neighbor, Mahmoud Abdel-Nazeer (48), over some steel rods and cement Mr. Hosni had left in the street to use for erecting a wall around his house. This was perceived by Mr. Abdel-Nazeer as extending the home into the street, which is public property. "Instead of reporting this building transgression to the police or local authorities, Abdel-Nazeer took the matter in his own hands and brought some Salafists and torched the store and the home of the Copt," said an eyewitness.

Angry Muslims murdered two Christian brothers, Kamel Tamer Ibrahim (55) and Kameel Tamer Ibrahim (50), in revenge. The brothers were not a party to the altercation...

"This is not revenge; this is simply an excuse to kill people because they are Christians, as well as loot their property," said an eyewitness.

Yes Aridog, I bet some heads are rolling as they try to figure out how the perimeters weren't secure enough. My daughter and her roommate work 12 hour days, seven days a week, yes, NO days off, so they never get to attend any of those photo op visits of the high and mighty.

When my daughter was able to contact me, via iPad messenger, she said they had just gotten back to their "can" ( barrack room in a box car type structure) when at around 10 PM their time, they heard explosions, and then the Brits got on the loud speakers announcing something, which man of the American troops didn't understand because of the strong British accent. It was comical the way she explained it, they all were looking at each other for a few seconds saying " What the fuck did that fuckin' Brit say?!"

They were put on lockdown, told to stay in their cans with loaded weapons and stay put because the perimeters were breached. Before going in their can my daughter and her roommate saw massive amounts of smoke, a huge fire and helicopters shooting tracers along the fence line. Then when things calmed down, my daughter and her crew were escorted to where they work.

I've read accounts relating similar details in the press, so I'm not violating OPSEC by relating her account of this to me here.

Cedarford, I realize you're some kind of shitty troll, but please stop with the shoddy argumentation.

Look up the word "incitement" and get back to me when you figure out that the difference between inciting and provoking. Hint: the filmmaker did number 2.

And as far as hornets, they sting in self defense. Islamists attack out of aggression and their need to convert or kill. That's why it's courageous and also praiseworthy to hurl invective at them, they are the enemy. That there are troops in harm's way, well, that is the fault of the government for doing nation building instead of nation destroying.

Are we using "locals" to work at our Afghan bases like the Soviets did--even letting Afghans refuel the helicopters. Pakistani engineering students designed the small altimeter detonators (using the microprocessor chips just appearing on the market at the time) for the explosives the Afghans dropped in Soviet fuel tanks. I would like to think we learn the important lessons, but you never know.

Anonymous said...

Also what is concerning about the breaching of the perimeter fence line by insurgents, my daughter and others go jogging at night along the fence line because it's too hot during the day, thank God she had a late day at work and skipped jogging that night.

Anonymous said...

Yes, Afghan nationals do work on the base, they do the crap jobs, literally emptying the septic containers, etc. the cooks and other contracted personel are from other countries.

No Afghans are allowed on base with weapons from what my daughter tells me, although she may be trying to keep me from worrying.

Good post.

Shows why this whole "don't inflame the poor Muslims!" tripe is from idiots without a clue. Islam is a culture of domination. They won't stop cause you treat them nice. Ask the Thai teachers that were beheaded Muslim fanatics or the Nigerian Christians who have had to flee their homes because of progroms. Someday it's going to hit Europe, and then what will you say? Probably turn your heads and ignore it.

France to close embassies in fear of cartoon blacklash

That headline made me laugh. I envision a rioting rampaging group of cartoon characters.

Donald Duck with a pitchfork. Scoobie and Shaggy, burning the French flag. Jessica Rabbit beating the crap out of someone with one of her stiletto heels. All of the Dogpatch characters rioting.

A cartoon riot.

"Poor Muslims"? Who the hell said they were poor Muslims? Who here is sympathetic to their cause or religious fanaticism?

Coptic have been persecuted and live in danger, so how is it a good idea to make things even worse for them, such insanity.

Darrell said...

Unless they make them live on the base--or put them through metal detectors, explosive sniffers or airport scanner (which I seriously doubt), that is a major weak link. How closely do you even look at the septic-tank guy when he returns to base? Could it be a Taliban or AQ dressed in rags with a dirty face instead?

In some matters caution can not be stressed enough. And double-check that.

No one gets on that base without being thoroughly searched by Marines with loaded weapons. The Marines (including my daughter a Navy Corpsman) go nowhere on base without their loaded weapons on them, even BEFORE this happened.

Dust Bunny Queen said...

AllieOpp. I remain baffled by your view on free speech. It appears to be conceptually something you approve of but something you would modify in practice, depending on the situation.

Free speech, except when it is inconvenient or disagreeable or makes someone get all wee wee'd up or they disagree with you or just except whenever......shut up!!

Instead of standing firm on our freedoms, some people want to give up freedom for the illusion of safety. As anyone knows, or should know, that when you give into threats, you get more threats. The bully knows that he can get what he wants by threats, rioting. Why would he stop?

Giving in and giving up is NOT an option if you want to remain a free person or a free country.

Allie, now in the spirit of military humor, here's a pair of signs from the perimeter jogging area on another Afghaniland compound.

The key issue for Conex ("Can") or MilVan living is how far away is the head/latrine. It's been said that "...the difference between sleeping quarters and garbage receptacles is electricity." (From a vet's blog elsewhere).

And to still be that friendly and dignified.

"Duly noted. Free speech only in winter."

No, don't mock. If AllieOop has sound tactical advice on how to safely obliterate Muslim enclave, I want to hear it.

As for C4, astonishing how you would truckle to the Muslims. I suppose it's just because I am some wicked Jew, but I think their civilization is almost entirely worthless and their crap should not be tolerated; rather they should be kicked at every opportunity, much as you seek to do to my people. Humor them? I think not. Let them know what we really think of them.

I guess the Muslims have resources you want and Israel doesn't; but you could just kill them and take it, or enslave them through satraps, none of which would seem to disturb your morals since you have never seemed to have any.

Anonymous said...

Nichevo, drones seem to do a pretty good job of eradicating terrorists. Oh maybe thats wrong of Obama, huh?

Anonymous said...

Creely, I may end up having to ignore you, either you are willfully ignoring what I say or you are not on your game today.

Hmmm, Creely, IIRC, you are the guy who thought the lady who put fried bacon slices in the Koran before she burnt it, while filming herself a hero a few days ago.

Allie: No, I'm consistent. I quote you and respond to what you said. You, on the other hand, don't quote me and ignore what I said.

I still support the Koran/bacon lady. As I said, I think it's better to stand up to bullies than appease them.

If you don't want to argue freedom of speech -- and it is clear that you will throw that freedom overboard in stormy weather -- then you have to make a strategic/tactical argument in favor of appeasement in the near term so that a couple of people might not be killed in the next few weeks.

Maybe. But that's a tough sell, considering that Muslims will just keep killing and killing no matter what. Another reality that you ignore.

If I thought that one could appease Muslims, I would give it some thought, but there is no historical evidence to back that up.

Obama thought he could appease the Muslims by his quasi-Muslim heritage and of course that he was just the smartest, the bestest, and the most wonderfulest guy to ever become POTUS. The Middle East is still in flames, our embassies attacked and one of our ambassadors killed like a dog and his corpse hauled through the streets.

You will not make a serious argument in favor of your approach. Nor will you even explain your approach beyond vague handwaving about responsibility. Nor do I have any sense you understand Islam or are willing to make an effort in that direction.

Anonymous said...

Creely some of the things you say are outlandish and I try my hardest to ignore you and not insult you. After your whole hearted support of bacon lady, I knew it wasn't worth my breath to discuss anything with you.

Yeah, Bacon Koran- Burner lady, a true American hero! Long may she smell like a butcher shop!

Anonymous said...

Perhaps she should fly to Egypt and do that in front of a crowd of Muslims, lets see how brave she is then. How easy to be a free speech hero while safely in the USA.

Allie: Ann Barnhardt, the Koran/baccon lady, didn't fly into Egypt to burn a Koran, but she did the next best thing -- she burned it and put her name and address on the internet and said, "If you want a piece of me, come get me." She included the Obama administration in the challenge.

However, note that Coptic Christians in Egypt were so moved by her Koran burning that they translated her Youtube into Arabic to challenge the rabid forces of Islam.

Ann Barnhardt figures that some of those Copts have been executed. While you might not think worthwhile to stir the Islamic hornets' nest, they did, because they were already being killed off by the totalitarian ideology of Islam.

Now, that may not make sense to an appeaser like yourself. But those people did have the kind of courage to put themselves on the line and so did most Americans once upon a time.

BTW -- quote me if you are going to respond to me. It would also be nice if you could include some facts you've researched, assuming you know anything germane to the discussion, as well.

Anonymous said...

Allie: Still no substantive response. Not surprising.

Nichevo said...

Plus the original point: the Copts are being terribly abused and why should their cause not be publicized? To keep the oil flowing? Just take the oil if you feel that strongly. What, are Muslim media always nice and respectful of others? I'm guessing not so much.

When Muslims ask themselves "what would the US want us to do?" instead of "what would a dreadful false prophet named Mo from 1400 years ago ant us to do?" there will be progress.

Don't say it can't be done. The Turks did it for centuries with troops of horse (and no ROE). We don't need nukes either. Four to six penetrating bombs in the Aswan Dam ends Egyptian civilization or rather rolls it back to the point where it was actually interesting.

Yeah we would have to be mean and all that. Ok I guess it's better we all die or submit to them. Islam is a "faith" that was spread by conquest. I don't see why they shouldn't be conquered right back.

Nichevo said...

Allies, drones are fine with me; though Candidate Obama spoke harshly of "air-raiding villages," I guess he has a right to let reality change his mind-I just think it shouldn't be forgotten.

But, drones are cheap and easy. They reduce complications. What they don't do is let you ask "where is your safe house," "who betrayed the Ambassador," stuff like that.

Furthermore, Allie ain't all that friendly and dignified. She blows hot and cold on the nasty scale. In my current exchanges with her she affects a snarky "You're such an outlandish fool I can't be bothered to respond to you."

But that really translates into, "Shit, I got nothing."

=========================
I think we are at war with the Islamoids, but the Will is not there yet to to the hard, hard things needed to prevail.
That would mean abandoning not just George Bush's drivel about the Religion of Peace..but a return to total war - which your fellow Jews over at the ACLU and in the Democrat go hysterical over on low level stuff like GITMO and interrogating 3 detainees. And that doesn't come close to the stuff we would need to cow the Islamoids down for centuries and end their threat.

You alluded to one thing - take out Aswan. With conventional bombs, it would be possibly adequate as starters...with a small nuke, you send all of Lake Nasser roaring down on where 80% of Egyptians live as a wall of radioactive sludge. Take out every power plant, permanently with bombs to the boilers and generators (200 sorties) and..within 2 weeks of blackout - the military is dead in position, with no food and unable to move or act.

We would have to go past that and put the Islamoids in blackout from Algeria on over to Pakistan..kill off perhaps a 3rd of their populations by doing so, and ethnically cleanse them from lands the West, Asians, Russians, Israelis wanted control of. With consideration to relocating Israel somewhere else..pack up the Wailing wall and whatever else mattered...set up a new Israel in Siberia as the Soviets offered, on the periphery of the Ummah, Labrador Canada...or some half of some American state down South in Christian Zionist country.

We are not there yet, not by a long shot.

But back in the AF days, it was thought in hypothetical terms, that no nation would be as easy to destroy with as large a loss of life, than Egypt.

Here, let's bring you in for questioning and frog march you in front of the cameras for the world wide audience to see just a few days after the first attacks and castigating you in international responses to the violence. You know, because we respect the 1st Amendment so much and aren't blaming you at all.

Nice freedom of speech you had there. Be a shame if anything happened to it.

Oh wait, Allie's hero, Mein Obama, already sharply curtailed it.

Well, C4, it's not quite that straightforward, in that you have to have a decent respect for the opinions of mankind. And nuking looks bad; it will encourage the Russians and the Chinese; more importantly, it will spoil some very valuable real estate (more so when cleared of Muslims, ha ha ha).

If you want to talk genocide, I would think biological warfare to be the way to go. They would be extremely vulnerable to it and after all, where does their medical technology come from?

But anyway you want to get ahead of Richard Fernandez's Three Conjectures. President Bush, an extremely decent man, wished to avoid the Three Conjectures, and took the best approach he and his advisors could find, consonant with deep historical research and, yes, his Christian beliefs, naive as you may find them. It's easy to say, "Forget it Jake, it's Chinatown."
