And this is a nice break for Obama and Joe "put y'all back in chains" Biden.
What morsel of moronicness is next on the menu of debased American politic?
And speaking of stupidity:
It's the economy, stupid.

Hilarious.

But don't worry wittle jakie, you'll always have wikipedia!
I mean, its like so factual and stuff!
Really, it is!!!
Suggestion: until the 9 Philosopher Kings appointed with lifetime tenure on the SCOTUS agree to restore the death penalty for rapists that they forbade 20 years ago, then a death penalty for offspring of rapists needs to be shown an equal mercy.
But the best answer is leaving it up to the mother. No one else has found another answer to rape pregnancy.
Since Jay is an idiot and constantly posts misinformation, let's set the record straight here.
From the Bureau of Justice Statistics:
On average, an estimated 211,200 rapes and sexual assaults went unreported to police each year between 2006 and 2010. Although serious violent crime was generally less likely to go unreported to the police than simple assault, a higher percentage of rape or sexual assault (65 percent) than simple assault (56 percent) victimizations went unreported over the five-year period.
As usual, Jay is wrong. But just because the facts are against him doesn't mean dumbass Jay will shut his stupid mouth anytime soon.
Why not give the rape victim a choice to kill an innocent human being? Why not give the rape victim a choice to be a murderer in response to becoming a victim?
The question rather answers itself.
You guys just don't get it. Statistics mean nothing while and after a guy punches your lights out, rips off your clothes and rapes you. Pregnancy is high right up there. STDs is high on the list of concerns. Getting a rape victim test and that personal intrusion, being interviewed over and over, humiliated in court and watching him go free although he admitted that he hit me repeatedly before hand.
You can take your non-violent rape crap and shove it your tight ass.
If Romney loses, it will be due to social conservatives.
FISCALLY, he has Obama in a headlock. So what else is there?
There is a time and a place to fight certain battles. ECONOMICS FIRST. Everything else is a luxury.
the best answer is leaving it up to the mother. No one else has found another answer to rape pregnancy.
Abandoning the mother to deal with this alone is hardly a good answer, much less the best answer, even if it is arguably better than encouraging the mother to become an aggressor and perpetrator of violence against the innocent.
A woman who is raped deserves better than to be coldly left alone or to be told to kill the child within her.
The best answer is that she deserves to be treated with the deepest compassion, enormous support, and special care. The woman -- the mother -- and the child are both victims. They both deserve care and protection.
Lindsey: So you honestly think that a 19-year-old woman who sleeps with a 17-year-old boy should face the same consequences as a violent rapist? This of course assumes the jurisdiction doesn't have so-called Romeo & Juliette laws.

Dear Pinhead.
It IS my married name. If you associate names with random porn stars who probably use stage names then, well, God have mercy on you as you have bigger fish to fry then what this thread is about and the psychos who are trying to explain this away.
Always entertaining to see one dumb-as-shit politician running against another dumb-as-shit politician.
I hope the guy drops out; last thing we need is another moron in Congress (very low hurdle, but somehow most members seem to limbo under it.)
I am afraid I do not credit your story Lindsey.
Perhaps you are really Allie Oop?
She is our resident fabulist.
Which lefty clarified all this by defining some rape as not rape rape?
Yes, most certainly, Lindsey and I are one in the same, "Baron". Baron begins with B, likes to use the word fabulist.
Lindsey ignore this guy, he's a psycho and a stalker.
My dear Ms Oop. Please do not fret.
I am merely an imaginary character.
Much like Ms. Meadows.
Oh and did I say asshole? :)
Thanks Allie. I could hear his knuckles dragging a mile away not to mention his gills gasping for water.
If he is a stalker I hope he has plenty of breadcrumbs 'cause I doubt he open his zipper to pee let alone find his way anywhere.
lol allie..
the asshole adjective was a given. not to worry.

Almost nobody posts blog comments using their full real name. When people use full names it's frequently a fictitious name that's meant to provide some insight into who they think they are - like I assume the Jake Diamond posting here would like to be in some way associated with the detective novel character, although it's possible that Jake Diamond really is his name. Realizing that nobody would come here and talk about her rape while complaining about the intrusiveness of having to talk about her rape and then post under her real name, I googled you to find out what your screen name would say about you. Turns out it says that you're pretty ham-handed when it comes to self-parody. I believe that that's your real name about as much as I believe somebody who admitted to beating you wasn't convicted of committing a violent crime against you.
Lindsey, I have no doubt that statistics don't matter to the victim herself and I am very sorry that you went through that terrible ordeal. Statistics do matter, though. The fact that a victim of rape must absolutely be terrified of becoming pregnant isn't really up for debate, though. We get that. The question is how often does it happen and what should be allowed when it does.
It's like the kidnapping of children by strangers---it happens rarely and lawmakers should take the statistics that show that seriously when they are looking at laws regarding child safety. But that doesn't much matter to the people who actually did lose their child to a stranger abduction (or who survived an abduction themselves) and it doesn't mean that parents whose children go missing (because they are lost, ran away for a short while, etc) aren't terrified of it. And, we need to separate rapes like what happened to you from "rapes" that happen between two willing-but-legally-unable-to-consent teenagers, just like we need to separate actual abductions from teenagers running off with their "true loves".
Lindsey, yeah that knuckle dragging sound is always a dead give away, lol.
Apple Bottom,
Sorry. Your Nancy Drew attempt again falls flat. The Baron is someone else. I'm B. I'm not the Baron, EDutcher, Fen and so on and on. There's a surprise, given your demonstrated smarts. (Bint begins with B also.)
If a great many commenters all come to the same conclusion - that you are a liar - it doesn't mean they are all one and the same. It means that you are an easily recognized and transparent liar.
Now I could continue to use the kinder characterization of fabulist, but I think you've well earned the liar title at this point.

Oh Jay. Stupid, moronic Jay. You claimed that "rape & sexual assualt are over reported." But according to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, rape and sexual assault are grossly underreported. That means that
(a) you are wrong, and
(b) you're a dumbass.
Are we clear about this now? Rape and sexual assault are underreported. Every time you claim otherwise, you're deliberately ignoring the facts in order to propagate a myth. I don't know why you want to believe that rape and sexual assault are overreported, but I'm sure you have your own perverse reasons.
B, you are such a funny fabulist! My favorite fabulist! I know you wear purple tights when your wife isn't home, her purple tights.

And what was the methodology for that?
Oh a survey.
But don't worry it is par for the course for your "facts"
And of course Jakie can't bother examining problems such as:
The FBI found that 84,767 rapes were reported to law enforcement authorities in 2010. The Bureau of Justice Statistics’ National Crime Victimization Survey, the gold standard in crime research, reports 188,380 rapes and sexual assaults on females and males in 2010.
Pound that keyboard little boy, you found a "fact"!
Tell everyone how smart you are!!!!
Again, sorry apple bottom.
You can wake up and to the fact that everyone recognizes you're a liar and stop the lying - the smart move - or continue to beclown yourself by thinking everyone who does is one person.
I hope you don't actually. You're the poster child for the characteristic liberal talking point slinger - positions without principles - and it's handy being reminded of that now and again.
Jay -
You just make yourself look like an idiot by denying the facts. The Bureau of Justice Statistics says that rape and sexual assault are grossly underreported. You claim that rape and sexual assault are overreported for no other reason than you want to believe it. In other words, you prefer your fantasy world to reality.
The more interesting question now is why you are so desperate to believe that rape and sexual assault are overreported. What perversion drives you to deny facts so that you can believe that women overreport rape? You must be one sick puppy.
B, funny how Baron Zemo disappeared and you appeared! Like magic!
Again, sorry apple bottom.
I don't know who this "B" person is, but the creepy factor is off the charts.
My Dear Miss Oop.
You seem to make enemies wherever you go.
Please do not include me among their number.
As has been said before I merely find you insipid.
Enjoy your day.
Hey, it only took Baron Nutjob a few minutes to respond to a post directed to "B." An interesting coincidence...
Who knew troglodytes wore purple tights and used the internet. I guess knuckle dragging stalkers can be trained monkeys.
You do not know me, thank goodness. There is something very disturbing about you.
Allie - I hope you don't think that I subscribe to such crackpot beliefs. It's very important to me that you don't believe that!
Jake, I know who this person is, he has now been "outed". That was great, lol.
I'm glad you saw his creepiness factor too.
Jake,
Apple Bottom - or rather something not to far from it - was one of Allie's many personnas on this site.
Since I share the Professor's opinion of her as a bullshitter, when she starts in, I mock her with it. I've no patience for worthless bullshitters like Apple Bottom, (or yourself for that matter).
Welcome to the board Lindsey!
B, the Professor has never weighed in on what you are implying. How creepy that you are still stalking me after all this time. That shows a pathology, you are a scary man.
I've no patience for worthless bullshitters like Apple Bottom, (or yourself for that matter).
Yeah, I can tell. That's why you keep coming back every few minutes to "mock" (i.e., stalk) Allie.
Creepy.
Back to the topic at hand, I think Shanna has it right in what he meant with the following:
Here is Web MD regarding stress and pregnancy:
Alpha-amylase is secreted when the nervous system produces compounds known as catecholamines in response to the "fight or flight" stress reactions.
Buck Louis says there is early evidence that catecholamines released in response to this type of stress reduce blood flow, which slows the passage of the fertilized egg to the uterus.
If that is what he meant or something like it, despite how inartful it was said, is he in fact wrong?
Doesn't that interpretation make more sense than Althouse's argument that he thinks women can't get pregnant if they don't have orgasms. My guess is, he couldn't muster the scientific argument when talking off the cuff and so came up with what he said. My follow up question is, how many people who think what he said was really dumb are aware of this fact?
My guess is probalby most AREN'T.
It's like finding fault in Sarah Palin's statements on Paul Revere. How many attacking her themselves have no real understanding on the topic they are attacking her on.
Lets at least find out what he was talking about before accusing him of forgiving rape.
Look at the rest of blog my dear.
It seems the professor is mocking you.
Fabulist.
Ha,ha,ha,ha,ha,ha,ha.

See, Apple Bottom, this is why I call you a bint. Not only are you without an original thought in your head, but you can't even keep track of your own bullshit. Or do you truly think that any reader who notes your inveterate nonsense is stalking you?
On the other matter - shall I link the Professor's response to your interpretation of one of her posts? I distinctly recall it as it was admirably succinct. She quoted you, then just said 'Bullshit". You could probably go and delete your inane comment as you've a habit of doing, but unfortunately, you can't delete the Professor's.
Have a nice day, bint.

B, asshole, she has said bullshit to many other commenters she has disagreed with from time to time, that she does not prove anything except that you are a weirdo, "Baron".
I'm not responding to you anymore in this thread, it's too important an issue to allow you create havoc to distract from the issue.

Nobody disputed they say that, idiot.
You claim that rape and sexual assault are overreported for no other reason than you want to believe it. In other words, you prefer your fantasy world to reality.
Um, no, actually I say that because DNA examinations exonerate approximately 25% of the accused.
You skipped that part, you silly little liar.

The more interesting question now is why you are so desperate to believe that rape and sexual assault are overreported.
Because actual evidence, not surveys, show that to be the case.
But hey, you get to point to surveys, which would indicate that rape victims don't want to talk to police mind you, but some statistician from the Bureau of Justice.
The real question is, why do you want to believe something so stupid?
Oh, because you are stupid.
Never mind.
Jake Diamond said...
You claim that rape and sexual assault are overreported for no other reason than you want to believe it.
That's right!
It wouldn't be discrepancies like this:
-The CDC’s National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Survey found that, in the United States in 2010, approximately 1.3 million women were raped
-The Bureau of Justice Statistics’ National Crime Victimization Survey, reports 188,380 rapes and sexual assaults on females and males in 2010.
-The FBI found that 84,767 rapes were reported to law enforcement authorities in 2010.
No!
Added to the fact that it is estimated that between 8-10% of rape accusations are false, which we could be looking at as many as 20,000 false accusations.
No, I'm just here ignoring your "facts" jakie!
Like, really, I am!
Classic stupidity from Jay! Every bit of relevant evidence cited, by me AND by him, proves that he's wrong about rape and sexual assault being over reported And yet, Jay the moron clings stubbornly to his idiotic opinion.
Fact: Rape and sexual assault are grossly underreported.
Fact: Jay is a dumbshit.
I'm still curious about the perversion that is driving Jay's denial about rape.
"Why should the rape victim be forced to pay for the sin AND crime of her rapist?"
I don't consider a new human life to be a punishment to anyone. Rather, it is beauty from ashes, the silver lining, whatever metaphor you prefer. Then there are a gajillion people who would adopt said child if the mother was not prepared to raise the child. The world is a dangerous place, and stepping outside your door involves risks. Two wrongs don't make a right. I have three daughters, all teens or preteens, and I would never make the horror of what they lived through worse by suggesting that they have murder on their conscience as a way to escape their current suffering. If it happened to me, my husband and I would gladly raise the child. I don't understand the mentality that would seek to inflict evil on another in order to escape the evil that has been done to her.
Ryan was one of the 64 co-sponsors of HR-212, the so-called Sanctity of Human Rights Act, which gives "personhood" rights to the fertilized egg. Took about 45 seconds to find it.
http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bills/112/hr212
Of course, not even a died-in-the-wool knuckle-dragger like Ryan would sign on to a bill that banned all abortions. Such bills already exist in many states (maybe even yours), but the USSC ruled them unconstitutional 40 years ago. Ryan might be dim, but he's not stupid enough to openly flout the Supremes. It would limit, shall we say, his political future.
Shana, I also have three daughters and if one of them were to have been raped and become pregnant, to force her to carry her rapists baby would seem the height of cruelty. The morning after pill would be the best option in such cases, yet social conservatives want to prevent women from obtaining it.

Well, Allie, to paraphrase Lyle Lovett - that's difference between you and me.
I don't consider a new human life to be a punishment to anyone.
Why should a rape victim care about your opinion?
Yes, Shana, good observation.
Well, Jake, 'cause I'm not a utilitarian asshole. I'm a woman who has family members and friends who bitterly regret their abortions.
Jake,
I suspect that if her preteen daughter were to be raped by some big slobbering, slope headed, homeless alcoholic, drug addled troglodyte in a park somewhere, she might think twice about forcing her young daughter into carrying her rapists child.
Um, actually it doesn't.
Jay, you're a dolt. There is NO evidence that rape and sexual assaults are overreported. All of the evidence shows that rape and sexual assaults are grossly underreported.
What perversion is driving your denial of the facts? Are you trying to make excuses for some of your past behavior by pretending that women make a huge number of false accusations? Or is your denial of reality a reflection of misogyny?
People like you who try to minimize the disturbing frequency of rape and sexual assault against women in our society are sick assholes. Please crawl back under your rock.
Allie, were you under the impression that I believe rapists are all from Lake Woebegone? You don't know what the hell you are talking about. I have many friends who have willingly adopted the children of just such as you describe. Those children are human too. What a small, ungenerous mind you have.

Good God are you fucking people embarrassing.
Allie,
I'm sure you're right. Note that she doesn't say that her friends and family members regret an abortion following a rape.
I have many friends who have willingly adopted the children of just such as you describe.
Bullshit.
Actually, jake, in the pro-life, homeschooling circles I run in, there are too many handicapped or crack babies being raised to count. I know one family that has two biological children, and SEVEN adopted children from various terrible backgrounds - prostitute mothers, sexual abuse, etc. Maybe you just don't have any compassionate friends. Gee, I wonder why.
You mean other than the fact that up to 20,000 rapes are false accusations, right?
Jay you innumerate dumbass,
So-called "false accusations" do not outnumber unreported rapes and sexual assaults by any estimate--in fact, it's not even close.
Your focus on "false accusations" and complete denial of the evidence regarding unreported rapes and sexual assaults supports my theory that you have some sort of personal connection to this issue.
Creepy.

Your continued dipshit assertions on this issue demonstrate you likely molested little boys in the high school locker room.
Shana, of course the children are human too, but maybe you forgot the victim is human too.
Yeah, Shana, I don't believe that you have "many friends" who've adopted babies that are a consequence of rape.
In any case, it's not really relevant, is it? The fact that you know someone who adopted a baby that resulted from a rape has no bearing on whether the victim should have the option of abortion.
Jake, this whole thread has been creepy.
Lindsey Meadows: statistics don't mean anything when you're having your lights punched out and your clothes ripped off you and you're getting raped.
No, they don't.
But they mean quite a bit when allocating resources and forming and evaluating public policy.
Welcome to the big-kid's table.
Jake,
You need to get out more.
It's pretty common for Christians/homeschoolers, etc. to have one or more adoptions, and I suspect nearly every good sized church to have families in it with multiple adoptions - often kids from missions who were conceived and brought into the world in simply inhuman conditions, both domestically and abroad.
All without government making them do it. It's the damnedest thing.
If they're adopted, as opposed to just foster children, they don't even qualify for Medicaid.
The churches frequently help out.
You live in a bubble.
Please name a crime category where up to 10% of said crimes are falsely reported.
Why? It's totally irrelevant to the question of underreporting of rape and sexual assault. Every bit of evidence supports the conclusion that rape and sexual assault are grossly underreported. You can't change that fact by whining about so-called "false accusations."
Again, your obsession with "false accusations" and your stubborn denial of the clear evidence that demonstrates beyond a shadow of doubt that these crimes are underreported leads me to believe that you have some sort of perversion or personal involvement with this type of assault.
Jake, this whole thread has been creepy.
Yeah. Unfortunately, creepiness isn't a rare feature at the Althouse blog.
It's pretty common for Christians/homeschoolers, etc. to have one or more adoptions
Bullshit.
Rephrase your claim or quantify "pretty common."
Let me put it this way, shit-for-brains...
If pregnancy via rape is so damn common, those kids are going somewhere. And they aren't getting adopted in droves by atheists.
Liberals are always assuming their own narcissism and degeneracy are normative, and therefore projecting their own character flaws onto normal people.
Let me explain that another way, Jake:
Shana and I associate with a better class of people than you do.
Libtard.
Yo Jason,
Do you have an ounce of science to back up anything you say or are you just writing down what you hear when you break wind?
Now there's a mature voice.
Jake,
Here's an in-depth look at the evangelical "adoption movement." From The Nation.
http://www.thenation.com/article/160096/evangelical-adoption-crusade#
A few exerpts:
in the past two years evangelical advocacy has skyrocketed. In 2009 Russell Moore, dean of the School of Theology at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and author of the 2009 book Adopted for Life, shepherded through a Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) resolution calling on all 16 million members of the denomination to become involved in adoption or “orphan care.” Last year at least five evangelical adoption conferences were held, and between 1,000 and 2,000 churches participated in an “Orphan Sunday” event in November. And in February, the mammoth evangelical adoption agency Bethany Christian Services announced that its adoption placements had increased 13 percent since 2009, in large part because of the mobilization of churches.
...One result has been the creation of “rainbow congregations” across the country, like the congregation Moore helps pastor in Louisville, Highview Baptist. An active adoption ministry has brought 140 adopted children into the congregation in the past five years. These children don’t recognize the flags of their home countries, Moore proudly noted at a 2010 conference, but they can all sing “Jesus Loves Me.”
The movement cuts across evangelical distinctions, with the Southern Baptists taking a doctrinal lead; charismatic prayer warrior Lou Engle, co-founder of TheCall, praying for “the most outrageous adoption movement to be released through the church”; and Rick Warren declaring that members of his Saddleback Church will adopt 500 children in three years.
Really, libtard... you didn't perceive this? This is like not perceiving a thunderclap.
Churches report a “contagious” “adoption culture” in which even small congregations have adopted dozens of children in just a few years.
If pregnancy via rape is so damn common, those kids are going somewhere.
Pregnancy as a consequence of rape ISN'T common, at least not using the ordinary, accepted definition of the word "common." One reason for this is that abortion is an option for women who've been raped.
I suspect that there are relatively few babies available for adoption that are a result of rape or incest. I seriously doubt that a substantial fraction of women who've been raped, become pregnant as a result, and decided to carry the fetus to term, then decide to put the baby up for adoption.
Sadly, you appear to be a very poor reader. I don't doubt that certain religious groups have higher adoption rates than the population in general, but if you actually stop and think about the numbers involved in rape pregnancies, it's highly unlikely that you or Shana have "many friends" who've adopted children resulting from rape.
The fact that you've tried to change the point of debate from adoption of children conceived as a result of rape to adoption of children in general further convinces me that you don't have a clue.
Shana and I associate with a better class of people than you do.
Highly doubtful. For one thing, a "better class of people" wouldn't make such a ridiculously ignorant and classless assertion.
Pregnancy as a consequence of rape ISN'T common, at least not using the ordinary, accepted definition of the word "common." One reason for this is that abortion is an option for women who've been raped.
Umm, abortion doesn't prevent pregnancy, genius.
it's highly unlikely that you or Shana have "many friends" who've adopted children resulting from rape.
Do you know the same people we do?
I know about five such families, personally. Three via extended family, two via agencies. That's where I know the circumstances.
So if you don't know the same people we do, then STFU.
I suspect that there are relatively few babies available for adoption that are a result of rape or incest. I seriously doubt that a substantial fraction of women who've been raped, become pregnant as a result, and decided to carry the fetus to term.
Only if you think that 48 percent is not a "substantial fraction."
32.2 percent of known such babies are carried to term and kept, according to the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Another 12 percent miscarry, and 6 percent are placed for adoption. So only about half of rape-induced pregnancies abort.
http://www.ajog.org/article/S0002-9378%2896%2970141-2/abstract
Adjust for false rape claims and you have a majority.
This is what I meant when I said liberals are always trying to project their own degeneracy and narcissism on normal people.

Pregnancy as a consequence of rape ISN'T common, at least not using the ordinary, accepted definition of the word "common."

wv: silygov
double heh.
Umm, abortion doesn't prevent pregnancy, genius.
Correct--it terminates pregnancy, dumbass.
Do you know the same people we do?
No, I don't hang out with religious freaks and fanatics.
I know about five such families, personally. Three via extended family, two via agencies.
Know of? LOL. Yeah, that doesn't constitute "many friends" by normal standards. You're just proving that you're full of shit.
Only if you think that 48 percent is not a "substantial fraction."
You really think 48% of babies available for adoption are the result of rape or incest? Ok, you've convinced me that you're a nutjob.
Adjust for false rape claims and you have a majority.
You're an innumerate clown. Seriously.
So Akins was right?!
Your ignorance of science is noted.
You really think 48% of babies available for adoption are the result of rape or incest? Ok, you've convinced me that you're a nutjob.
No, genius. 48 percent of babies concieved via rape are carried to term or miscarry. That is, not aborted.
Do try to read more carefully.
You're an innumerate clown. Seriously.
Says the idiot who severely misread the statistics in your very last post.
Says the idiot who said he doubts that a significant percentage of rape conceptions are not aborted, and then was proven to be grossly wrong.
You lose, clown.
I don't hang out with religious freaks and fanatics
Bigot.
Says the idiot who said he doubts that a significant percentage of rape conceptions are not aborted, and then was proven to be grossly wrong.
When I said you are a poor reader, I didn't expect you to prove me right again.
What I wrote, quite clearly, is that I suspect that there are relatively few babies available for adoption that are a result of rape or incest. The statistics you posted prove my conjecture is correct.
I'm sorry to say that your stupidity seems to be a major obstacle to moving this conversation forward. Let's leave it this way: I am right and you are wrong, as proven by the data.
Thanks for playing, loser.
Jake: I seriously doubt that a substantial fraction of women who've been raped, become pregnant as a result, and decided to carry the fetus to term.
Jake, at 8:06, above.
Your own words, dumbass.
Own them.
