After only 1 day of the convention, Romney gets a 5 point bump.

From The Hill:
Romney had a 43-percent favorable and 44-percent unfavorable rating in nine battleground states heading into the convention, according to an average compiled by Real Clear Politics.

A survey conducted by Wilson Perkins Allen Opinion Research in nine battle ground states Tuesday evening found Romney’s favorable rating among likely voters had jumped to 48 percent. His unfavorable rating dipped to 39.

Given what I've seen of the convention, that's scary.

In fairness, Barky has set the bar pretty low.

Who was saying conventions should be banished?

The same people avoiding Charlotte?

Meh. That many people saw the convention, and changed their thinking this fast? Let's see what polls say over the course of a few days.
I'm tired of news stories jumping around over this little poll or that little poll.

Armstrong and Getty continue it: Our dog was a rat. We used shoes for soup bowls. We used old newspapers for clothing. We chewed on gravel because we didn't have TV - or gum.

And, lessee now, where's Barry?

Oh, yeah, 43, according to Gallup.

Well, so much for likeability and personality.

Now what can the trolls tell us Zero does better.

(ya love it, right?)

At this point I'm inclined to say lies, damned lies, statistics, and presidential polls, though I'd like the Hill's word to be true. I'm just not going to believe any polls except for the one that counts.

Poor! You don't know what poor is.

I'm a bit skeptical about polls offering clues on an events less than 24 hours old. However, if the effect is real....

I suspect that for many Americans the convention was their first glimpse into the strange twilight world of current Republicans without being filtered through the dark glass provided by the mainstream media.

The difference between what they saw last night and what the media has been telling them for the six months may have been quite bracing -- and favorable to Republicans.

No one knows what you've seen of the convention or why you are scared. You know, you're not famous.

To be honest, this is a trend that's been going on for a couple of weeks.

The Romster's favorables have been going up as Choom's have cratered, "free fall" was how Drudge put it.

I've got to say that my email box has been ringing off the hook these past few days with appeals for contributions from Democrats.

When I was in college, I used an ironing board as a desk and a typing table. You could adjust it to any height you needed.

Obama did a half hour IAMA on reddit.com earlier today.

Questions he answered were:
-Are you considering increasing funds to the space program?
-I am recent law school graduate. Despite graduating from a top school, I find myself unemployed with a large student loan debt burden. While I'm sure my immediate prospects will improve in time, it's difficult to be optimistic about the future knowing that my ability to live a productive life -- to have a fulfilling career, to buy a house, to someday raise a family -- is hampered by my debt and the bleak economic outlook for young people. I know that I'm not alone in feeling this way. Many of us are demoralized. Your 2008 campaign was successful in large part due to the efforts of younger demographics. We worked for you, we campaigned for you, and we turned out in record numbers to vote for you. What can I say to encourage those in similar situations as I am to show up again in November? What hope can you offer us for your second term?
-We know how Republicans feel about protecting Internet Freedom. Is Internet Freedom an issue you'd push to add to the Democratic Party's 2012 platform?
-What was the most difficult decision that you had to make during this term?
-What's the recipe for the White House's beer?
-What are you going to do to end the corrupting influence of money in politics during your second term?
-What is the first thing you'll do on November 7th, win or lose?
-Who's your favourite Basketball player?
-How do you balance family life and hobbies with, well, being the POTUS?

Republicans have much to gain and little to lose in the conventions matchup and visa versa for Democrats.

The big scare campaign that Democrats have waged against Republicans may backfire on Democrats now. Romney is simply not the inhuman monsters that the Obama campaign and its media enablers have made him out to be. When voters see Romney, their impression of him can only go up.

Not so for Obama who has been way overexposed the past four years. People know Obama and his shtick pretty well. There is no way he's going to top his 2008 campaign appearance and there is every chance that seeing Obama now will remind voters how disappointing the reality of President Obama compared to the promises of Candidate Obama.

"Obama did a half hour IAMA on reddit.com earlier today." While 'black people' were DROWNING? He did?

If I were famous, would that make me smarter?

What I'd seen was the showcasing of SoCons and the ostracizing of the TEA Party and libertarians. It made me (and a lot of people I know) throw up a little.

That said, these conventions are a circus of idiocy, and illustrate why our TV is seldom ever on.

He ignored questions about why he signed ACTA and a lot of questions about the war on drugs/legalizing marijuana. Also one asking whether or not he likes cats.

Considering how liberal /r/politics tends to be, I expected this to be an Obama lovefest but it wasn't.

He stopped after half an hour, saying he had to get back to DC. I can get wifi on Southwest and he can't get it on Air Force One?
