"Because I criticized the President, it’s news?"

"Last I checked, he’s President, not King! This is America! Freedom of Speech. what’s the bfd?"

***

I know I've made a lot of Obama tags over the years, but looking for the right one for this post made me realize I have a serious Obama tag proliferation problem on this blog. Few other characters have even one additional tags beyond their name. For example, Hillary Clinton only has 2 extra tags, one dedicated to her work as Secretary of State and another one called "Hillary snaps." But look at my list of Obama tags:

I need to do some tag consolidation! At the very least, all the one-timers ought to go. Including the obvious mistake "obama the." Or is that fascinatingly evocative?

Prolific, certainly, but does it exceed your Bush tags or is it roughly equivalent?

That list confirms to us that Obama is quite a leader...a leader to where is the open question. Al Capone was a Chicago style leader too.

Jon Lovitz tags for Obama: 1

But it's very descriptive. Much more efficient than Althouse!

What part of racist bigot does Lovitz not understand?! You can't criticize Obama and not be a racist. We all know that.

hmmm...two Obama/Palin tags....there's a fix right there!

Kevin Smith stumbles accidentally into some truth "The government can take your shit away. Even your good memories."

And these guys continue to vote Democratic.

I'm as skeptical of government as the next guy, but I don't think that's what took away Kevin Smith's memory.

I'm especially fond of "Obama the"; I think that kind of says it all.

If, as some suggest, Zero is an even bigger sociopath than Willie ever was (and what he says in "Dreams" would indicate that), then your tag list has given visual justification to it.

"Obama wit" is an easy delete.

an Obama's a fucking asshole tag would cover most of those

Ann Althouse said...

I just made the tags all clickable.

I hope you appreciate it... and if you tried them before and found them dead ends, I hope you notice that they now take you to all the old posts.

"Prolific, certainly, but does it exceed your Bush tags or is it roughly equivalent?"

Bush was always only one tag, "Bush" (though there is also a tag "Bush v. Gore").

Tags on other members of the same family are separate, just as Michelle O and "Malia and Sasha" are separate posts.

Ann Althouse said...

The issue here is tag proliferation, not the number of posts.

Zero is a leftist. This is how they work on you.

Complexity.

Nuance.

Bureaucracy.

Distractions.

Perhaps a flow chart would help?

Or a Venn diagram?

Or a bar graph?

Or a beer summit. Really, except for personally shooting Bin Laden, this is Zero's biggest f....g deal.

I couldn't help myself. I clicked on the 'Obama wit' tag. I found him explaining why he didn't give a better answer to a question about his biggest weakness.

“Because I’m like, an ordinary person, I thought that they meant what’s your biggest weakness? So I said, ‘Well, I don’t handle paper that well. You know, my desk is a mess. I need somebody to help me file and stuff all the time.’ So the other two they say uh, they say well my biggest weakness is ‘I’m just too passionate about helping poor people. I am just too impatient to bring about change in America.

“If I had gone last I would have known what the game was. I could have said, ‘Well you know, I like to help old ladies across the street. Sometimes they don’t want to be helped. It’s terrible.’”

That's not WIT. That question--what's your greatest weakness--inevitably comes up in job interviews. How many job interviews has Obama been to?

"Obama, predictable failure" is the one tag you are looking for.

It's magically effective in covering all the mundane aspects of Obama.

"Bush was always only one tag, "Bush" (though there is also a tag "Bush v. Gore").

So Bush, who did more good and less bad than Obama, gets two tags.

Obsess much with classifying and categorizing all things Obama?

Really. "Obama, predictable failure" is all you need.

Ann you could use Glenn's tag of unexpectedly. Virtualy everything Obama does turns out unexpectedly bad.

Imagine the tut-tuts about Lovitz in the Manhattan salons after hearing this. "Too bad he went off the deep end like that. He used to be funny. Al Franken would never say anything like that. Come to think of it, I never really found Lovitz to be funny at all. (whispers)He's just another racist Jew."

Yeah, I had that problem, too. I solved it by consolidating all of my Obama tags down to one succinct tag:

OBAMA SUCKS!!!

Cheers

"The issue here is tag proliferation, not the number of posts."

Tag proliferation is just a fact. When did it also become an "issue"? "Issue" is a word much beloved by lawyers, both in the field of trusts and estates (meaning children or more generally natural heirs) and in litigation (meaning a matter in dispute). No doubt there are other contexts in which it is used. Ann's usage here is intended to steer the conversation in a particular direction and means, more or less, "the subject under discussion," which usually takes the form "in issue."

So what is there to say about having too many tags? We've been given an invitation to a conversation about the utility of tags -- does having too many get in the way of using (finding) whatever they are intended to categorize? Who really uses these tags? I suspect it's just Ann. So it turns out that the conversation is mostly between Ann and the looking glass. But now that we're invited to take the mirror's place, what is there to say about a tool no one uses? Beats me. Someone should ask Alice.

It's because Lovitz dropped his "yea, that's the ticket" personae and appeared to have actually meant what he said.

Honesty is fierce and brave only when it comes from the left.

Lovitz will be doing the usual mea culpas or else he'll "never have lunch in this town again." He'll go on The View[Or the Spew as I call it] and make fun of himself and all the girls will laugh and all will again be right w/ the progressive world. I've seen this play many times before, it always ends that way, like Groundhog Day.

I feel the same way about Mormonism as a cult, Jon, but you should hear how they (Ann, Glenn, and others) scream "bigotry" - or finds some other reason to bitch - every time someone exercises their rights on that.

This is one crazy, screwed-up country we've got right now,...

Ann, please understand that none of this means a hill of beans!

Lefties are now indiscriminately shooting at everyone . . . including you!

You are currently being attacked on a thread on the leftie site, BalloonJuice because . . . well, I'm not really sure why, because the thread was about James Taranto and his recent WSJ column.

But here is an example from that thread where a woman named Anya, admits that she has never read anything you have written, but nevertheless assumes that you are "your garden variety internet wingnut."

I posted the following response there, though I suspect it will not ultimately be "approved" in their moderation process.

@Anya:

So . . . your admitted lack of knowledge, forms the basis for your opinion about Ann Althouse — i.e., that she is "your garden variety internet wingnut."

How sad.

I'm impressed that Lovitz is actually fighting, with Kevin the Monetizing Phony and later against Twitter detractors. I thought he'd back down right away when his blasphemy was publicized.

I never thought Lovitz would be one to back down; I just assumed the stubbornness in his characters was also a part of him. Looks like, so far at least, I'm being proven right.

I tried keeping it simple There's:
President Obama
Candidate Obama
and
He Lied

Now, I may consolidate it down to two because I usually end up having to use both of the top two on all posts about him, he never does anything that isn't campaigning.
