'Crackers' is not a racial slur. My wife and son were both born in Florida and proud to be known as Florida Crackers. Sure, some people try to use the term as a synonym for a bigot -- those people who do that are badly misinformed. And by the way, the name of the Negro League baseball team that was in Atlanta many years ago? The Black Crackers.

So, now Althouse is using a racial slur?
I think the quote is something Karma said...not to Karma.
That's how it sounded to me, but I agree it wasn't exactly a clear parse.
"So, now Althouse is using a racial slur?"
But people do eat crackers.

Really? Even with Karma being a dog?!
Oh, I see how you could get confused. You're seeing it like a play script:
MAN: I love crackers.
But the dog's name and the thing said are both in italics. I take the italics to indicate the quote, so the name of the dog is in the thing said.
I am going to tell my wife that when she gets home.

I don't see any meat on their plates. Leftard academes?
The most self-centered pretentious blog in the history of the blogosphere...unless it's satire.
What are the chances that Nina's blog is so subtle in its satire that I've missed its point entirely?
Probably not good.
The Blonde lives on Cheez-Its occasionally.
Nina, you have very good posture. I bet all that walking and trail-threading promotes good posture.
And ignore rastajenk, he knoweth not of what he speaketh eth.
You give and give and give and that's the thanks you get.
I prefer a hearty soup or chili with my crackers.
Saltines or the small oyster variety.
I do not give them to the dog.
Ms. Althouse,
Yep, you're right.
I parsed it wrong. My apologies for muddying the waters.
