Why does Miss Wisconsin have a pained look on her puss? So many beauty contestants have that pained look when they win. Why is that?

They're thinking about all the repulsive toads leering at them.

"Miss Wisconsin ices out New York for Miss Amercia 2012 crown"

She didn't just beat Miss New York. She beat -all of New York.-

No, no, no!!!!

That's not Miss America, much less Miss Wisconsin.

Miss Wisconsin and Miss America are both our own fair bloggress!

PS They're telling us about this just now?

Miss America's always crowned the Saturday before Labor Day.

And she's crowned in Atlantic City, not Sin City.

Man, you can sure tell the NY Daily Dirt is Lefty paper.

Gotta be a joke, she looks hollywood, not Wisconsin at all.I've been to Wisconsin and seen better looking ladies on the street by the hundreds,The Althouse is herself far more attractive.

During the Q&A portion of the pageant the Big Apple beauty contestant Kaitlin Monte criticized the Occupy Wall Street movement.

And she's good looking too!

Hot, smart, from Wisconsin. Surprise surprise.

This was interesting:

She was asked minutes before being crowned whether Miss America should declare her politics.
“Miss America represents everyone, so I think the message to political candidates is that they represent everyone as well,” she said. “And so in these economic times, we need to be looking forward to what America needs, and I think Miss America needs to represent all.”
Link.

Huh. Sounds like #wiunion to me. Makes sense, hot and intelligent.

Good point. Women who want to appeal to the national media (advertising as well as entertainment), tend to have a homogenized, standardized look.

And, yes, Althouse has her own sweet, natural look.

Yeah, because public sector unions are like so interested in "representing us all"

Again, you beclown yourself here every day, but you'll be back tomorrow.

I would absolutely bet my life on the fact that every single one of the contestants has something in common. God damn it.

In my lifetime she's gone from feminine ideal to feminist demiurge to camp outing to her present status, hovering between oblivion and nostalgia.

Miss North Carolina had my attention in the swimsuit round, but she never made it past that. So, I turned back to the drubbing that Denver was getting from the Patriots. Ouch!

A 1972 Miss Wisconsin won the big enchilada - Terry Meeuwsen became Miss America 1973. You can see her today as a hostess/moderator/anchorette on one of Pat Robertson's fine Christian television programs (if you'd like to.) What amazed me was that in 1974 I saw her at a YMCA in Wauwatosa, teaching an aerobics class. So, back in the day these things did not translate into great endorsement contracts and modeling gigs.

Garage is deeply impressed by the empty platitudes of a beauty pageant contestant...no wonder he's such a staunch Obama supporter.

Well you all know what "represents us all" means to liberals. It's the same thing that "compromise" means.

She's absolutely right about Miss America though... she shouldn't touch anything political, no matter what. I wish actors would figure that out, too. Why piss on half your audience?

But the actors and the beauty pageant contestants can't help it when they get asked stupid political questions they're expected to answer. Sure, I liked the answer about OWS, but the girl from NY is going to catch flack for it. That's not fair to her.

Just in passing while channel surfing last nite one of the contestants was kicking some butt on the piano...who was that? I didn't stick around to find out.

Miss Wisconsin is a stunner!

Garage is deeply impressed by the empty platitudes of a beauty pageant contestant.

Instead of attacking one group of people [like Miss New York], Miss Wisconsin said everyone should be represented. She seems very clear headed and intelligent. And hot.

Synova said...

She didn't say everyone should be represented, she said that the person (Miss America or politicians) should represent everyone.

It's not the same thing.

You interpreted "represent everyone" as "Yay, she's on our side in Wisconsin, go unions!" But that's not what she said.

By your way of thinking Miss New York should have represented *both* the people who support OWS, by not criticizing them, and *also* those who think they're whining anarchist/communist infants? Some things are mutually exclusive. How does Miss New York represent EVERYONE when asked for her opinion on OWS, garage?

Miss Wisconsin can refuse to take sides only so long as she was never asked to take sides. If she's allowed to only address general things as Miss America, to represent what we DO have in common, then she's golden. Just as soon as she answers a divisive question she can't do that anymore.

Why not ask her... will you vote for or against Walker in the recall... and then figure out how she's supposed to represent everyone, garage.

There are some things that seem to offend... complaining that Walker is Republican and not Democrat and doesn't represent you is as idiotic as complaining that the Pope is Catholic. And yet people have done that, too.

Walker is divisive or Bush was divisive because they don't immediately abandon the policies of their own parties and take up, wholesale, the policies of Democrats. "Compromise" means give up all your conservative ideas and support the liberal agenda. If you're honest you'll recognize that this is why you assumed that Miss Wisconsin's answer was pro-union. You assume that anyone who represents everyone will be on your side, even if the sides are incompatible.

I thought New York was the holiest of holies to the left? For Miss New York to put the verbal smackdown on #OWS had to feel shameful for garage.

Shame? Miss Wisconsin won. The people have spoken!

How did she do in the bow hunting category?

"How did she do in the bow hunting category?"

Good question. Do these women have to show something that shows how well they represent their state? I'd expect a Merlinder to be be able to shuck oysters and steam crabs. I'd probably be disappointed, though.

Synova said...

Fritz... where I grew up the "Dairy Queen" (not kidding), did generally demonstrate the ability to milk a cow.

But the "Queen of Steam" did not have to operate a steam engine (tractor, not train), she just rode on the back of one in the parades.

Unions only represent union members. They do not care about the people they get money from or they are suppose to help. To hell with the tax payers or students in failing schools. Whatever happened to wanting world peace, anyway?
