"Mic Check! Im Drew from internet. We would like to propose tonight the purchase of occupywallstreet.net for the use of all of us."

"It is time sensitive because the person who owns it desperately wants to sell it and will sell it to anybody but we have put a stop on that for the day. I realize that this is a weird situation, but we would rather that you own it than say the Koch brotherss. The amount is $8,000. Just so everyone knows, we are about to take a temp check..."

Occupy Wall Street hands over $8,000 to Mark R. Ellis, 53, of Sarasota, Florida, who registered occupywallstreet.net on September 23.
Ellis described himself as sympathetic to Occupy Wall Street, calling capitalism “extinction-causing software,” but said he has no plans to join the protests. Regarding the sale of occupywallstreet.net, he said, “It’s not about the money for me.” Asked why he didn’t hand over the domain name for free, Ellis said, “Because I’m a businessman.”

I smell crony capitalism. Occupywallst.com and occupywallstreet.com are already owned by OWS. Who cares about occupywallstreet.net?

Ellis probably gets his suits at Mens Wearhouse.

The lesson here is that you can get OWS people to spend a lot of money on something if you tell them that the Koch brothers might buy it first.

Were the Koch brothers remotely interested in buying it? For what purpose? We had some people out protesting them in Wichita last weekend. They also couldn't articulate why they were against them, that's how we could tell the were real OWSers.

"Because I'm a businessman."

OWS folks can't generalize that to the economy, can they?

“It’s not about the money for me.” Right. Which is why he got $8k for it. And on a completly unrelated note, I have some Occupy Wall Street t-shirts that I need to sell and I would hate to have the Koch brothers get them. Charles has already made an offer. Only $50 a shirt. Just send me $10K of that donated money and i will ship you the 200 shirts. As soon as the check clears, I will send the shirts. Uh, might be a couple weeks delay....for ummm handling.

"In a wide-ranging phone interview, Ellis also volunteered alternative scenarios for the assassinations of John F. Kennedy and John Lennon, claimed to have written Michael Jackson’s Beat It and predicted Israel will attack Iran next year on Purim. “Everyone, as soon as they talk to me, are like, ‘what ship did the aliens give you?’” he said."

Wow. Bilked out of $8K by a crazy guy. Got to be proud of that.

"“It sounds to me that we are giving $8,000 to someone who purchased the domain name simply to profit off of our movement,” said one participant,"

You think?

Mic check.....that kills me.

'“We would hesitate to use the term branding, necessarily, because of the corporate connotations to that,” said DeGroot, a theatrical-lighting designer'

Does DeGroot make his own lights for his theatrical lighting, or does he buy them from a, you know, corporation?

Also, a quick look at his website reveals what appears to be "branding." He seems as confused (though not as schizophrenic) as Ellis.

If he were businessman he would have gotten more than 5k. I guess he's a shitty businessman

If they had to work for the money that was in their coffers, instead of having it given to them, they'd be a hell of a lot more careful about spending it.

This is the same reason we don't want politicians spending our money.

Thanks for yet another validation of my conservative values, Occupy Wall Street!

Notice if you say the words "Koch brothers" the right way you can get these yahoos to do anything. These are not autonomous individuals they are a mob pulled by strings so obvious that it's laughable.

I like that term OWSer though I wonder if Owser might not be more correct?

Sounds very like "Wowser" which has a number of meanings. Urban Dic says:

wowser 60 up, 2 down

"In Australia, it is a derogatory word denoting a person who saps all the fun out of any given
situation."

Another, US meaning, is "Goody two shoes"

And Wikipedia informs us that there is an anime character named Wowser:

"Wowser is a big white dog who lives with his owner, the Professor. In each episode, Wowser's appetite and the Professor's inventions, along with the interference of their wacky neighbors, results in chaos."

I like it. Very fitting. Owser it is from now on. Spread the meme.

They need to be careful at that OWS General Assembly. No telling what those evil Koch brothers are up to.

The OWS general Assembly now has its own website and they don't own it.

owsgeneralassembly.com, .net, .info and .org are now available for a single package price of $24,000 (Only $6,000 each)

If they are not interested, there is no telling where the domains might wind up forwarding to.
