You really should find some coffee houses that serve Alterra Coffee. First, it's a WI company (Milwaukee). Intellegensia is out of Chicago. Second, it's better.
Barriques in the Madison area serves it and also has whole bean sales.
I was eating a black and white cookie[superb] from Barriques recently. A young man from NYC came running up to me on the square as I noshed. He blurted,"I'm from NYC..where did you get that black and white cookie, I've not had one since I left NY." He was so happy. Simple pleasures.

I'm not positive but I think that cookie and much of Barriques' bakery is also provided by Alterra...Alterra Bakery. Their bakery division is outstanding and is growing leaps and bounds.
Barriques Iced Coffee is pretty blah, if you ask me. Indie Iced Coffee never disappoints. I think they also sell those black and white cookies -- I see them all over town. Had one once. Meh. The cookie was too cakey. I like my cookies to be crisp on the outside, and chewy on the inside.
But even though I like Indie Iced best, I usually get iced coffee at Union South because it's closer and cheaper. It's not always cold however.

I went to this coffee house for the first time earlier this week. They had Peaberry as a "pour over." Having never had pour over coffee I ordered a medium....man, was it good.
It's not exactly in my usual travel pattern, but when I'm in the area, I'm going to give it another go.
Starbucks will do individual pour overs and French press for customers who request any coffee (packaged) in the store. They simply grind up the remainder for use in batches.
@Curious George and others: True that Intelligenstia is based in Chicago but i would note the company's founder and owner -- Doug Zell -- is a cheesehead from White Fish Bay who went to college at Madison. Does that make you feel any better?
Which reminds me of the book I just read (on the advice of a sibling) "A History of the World in 6 glasses"
It has a great review of coffee, its role in modernizing western civilization and the London Coffee Houses (which were decidedly more "than just coffee")
A good, fast read (one plane trip worth)
(PS: The "6 glasses" are beer, wine, spirits, coffee, tea and cola)
Intelligentsia coffee is very good. There's a truck that parks weekday mornings near the building where I teach that serves it, and also makes excellent cappuccino and espresso.

My friend opened a Sweet and Savory Shop, locally. And, she carries Intelligentsia coffee. I had never heard of it, before!
But she was right. When I tasted it I saw that it was a really high quality delicious cup of coffee.
Now, why would any coffee shop ever want to be called "Public Enemy?" Did Edward G. Robinson own da' place?

James Cagney was really scary in Public Enemy.
Maybe in its prior incarnation the coffee shop was owned by a Republican, so among the Madison intelligentsia it was known as "Enemy of the People."

Avoiding these kinds of mistakes is certainly one of the big reasons Mormons don't drink coffee.
We rarely if ever mistake the names of coffee houses.
