The Blonde got in last night. She slipped in the kitchen up in Canada (not hurt, thank God), but she's glad to be back. There was a lot of drinking - something she can't stand since her ex was not only homicidal, but a drinker, so she appreciates me a bit more than when she left. All to the good.

I said it on my site, and what the hell, I'll say it here...Happy 100th Birthday Ginger Rogers! A good reason to go dancing I say...
By all means, Happy Centenary.
PS Like the closeup. As I said when you posted the picture originally, it gives you a look of grandeur; as if you were the skipper of a four-masted schooner guiding your ship in the China trade.
Interesting study referenced by Mark Steyn in his latest column. The title is "Financing U.S. Debt: Is There Enough Money In The World – And At What Cost?" Interesting question. Apparently the answer is something like "technically yes," provided everybody else is willing to live in austere economies by donating 19% of their GDPs to the US debt.
Maybe it really is time to start pruning useless programs? They can start with "green jobs" that don't exist and never will, and continue with the Education Department.
David Ignatius (sp?) writes a column for the WaPo suggesting that the great communicator has a communication problem.
The comments were brutal.
I thought I was reading comments at the Althouse!! I'm seeing the same brutal comments in the Seattle Times.
I keep up with a high school girlfriend. She has a son that is doing the "Teach for America" thing. His contract states that he is responsible for the resources (computers, books, what not). Of course, the computers were immediately stolen, and he has to reimburse the government for the loss. He doesn't have the money.
Yeah....she's a liberal Democrat. It's gotta be tough to have such a wake-up call in your 50's.
With regard to what Big Mike said, the (grimly) amusing thing about the budget kabuki going on right now is how useless the debate is. Austerity is coming, the only question is whether the landing is a forced one or a full on crash.

That study, in one form or another, has been around for a bit.
While I'm no big fan of his father, the only one even close to reality on this is Rand Paul. If anything, I'd go him several better and get rid of every cabinet department created in the 20th century (not to mention the one created in the 21st century). And, yes, that means the DoD, too.
We seemed to do a lot better at that sort of thing when we had a War Department. And it's interesting to note, most of those 20th century departments, aside from those created to funnel money to pet Democrat constituencies, usually seem to house only one or two vital functions inside a huge bureaucracy.
for example, does Commerce do much more than run the Census?
How have I lived and traveled all over this country and not realized that 18 states still run government monopolies on liquor sales? And with 32 states already practicing free market sales, how can the PA liquor sales union claim that their services are an essential government function?

What do kids make in art class today instead of ash trays?
Ah, a new sandbox.
I hate succulents, except for apple.
