"A coalition of Massachusetts business groups – including Associated Industries of Massachusetts , the Massachusetts Association of Health Plans, and the Massachusetts Taxpayers Foundation – has sent a letter to state lawmakers urging them to override vetoes by Governor Deval Patrick on budget provisions they say are necessary for maintaining stability for employer-sponsored health plans."
Theft is theft. And the "rich" are not the ones they will be taking from. It will be mostly small busines persons and professionals, who will cut staff and spending in response.
If the republicans give in to Obama's desire for a tax increase as part of a debt ceiling raise compromise.. I will be staying home in 2012.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Same old ducking of heavy lifting. And not just that! Again: I will be staying home in 2012.
Oh, OK. Because there are no local, municipal, county or state offices or positions worthy of your taking the time to go the polls. There are no ballot initiatives or queries worth your taking just a little bit of time, on just one particular day, to weigh in on.
People who say they'll stay home altogether on election days due to their dissatisfaction with candidates for national office are not, on the very face of it, believers in limited, more local government. By definition, they are believers in far-away, national, big-leader government!
Think about it. Seriously, think about this.
You don't care about voting in local, county or statewide elections? Well, then. Why the hell should I care what you think at all, politically or policy-wise? You've opted out of citizenry at the very building-blocks level.
Lem, if you think things are bad now, what do you think an unbridled Obama will do in a second term?
With no constituency to serve but himself and with no election to win or lose in the future, this far left punk will drive every faculty lounge cockamamie idea that ever crossed his mind down our throats.
A "no vote" is a automatic vote for the incumbent.
This ain't about you Lem, buck up and vote.... like your country depends on it.
Note especially the graphs. What would it be like to be a European or Japanese walking around in 2050 in a country whose working adult population has plummeted by 30-45%? (And how many of those "European" adults will have names like Mohamed, as opposed to names like John and Pierre and Luigi?) The thought that comes to mind is Rome in the Dark Ages, when a much-shrunken population lived in the ruins of their ancestors' greatness, with the bitter knowledge that they were far worse off.
Remember the scary books that came out around 1970, the Paul Ehrlich ecological disaster porn about "The Population Bomb," etc? And now, ironically, the real future disaster for civilization will be caused not by population growth but by population decline. It's not the licentious devouring of resources and pollution of the land, air and water that we should fear, but rather the plummeting populations in the civilized world and their inability to maintain and transmit that civilization to the next generation. A lot of people read those books, took the message to heart and didn't have children, or at least enough children to replace themselves. They were going to "help save the planet." Ah, but for whom? Apparently, the Mohameds of the world and their progeny.
It should also be noted that while some nationalities will be sclerotic, others will be growing, although not in the "mostly developed world." It will be the barbarians whose populations will be on the rise as the civilized populations decine. We like to think that history has a narrative arc, that it has been improving for centuries and now culminates with the greatness that is us. However, it has been said that "History belongs to those who show up." And it looks like the Europeans and the Japanese, among others, have decided to cede the field to others.

Nice Lily and I'm assuming it has a wonderful scent.

Whats the point in voting.. for the same Titanic.
On an unrelated note:
Massachusetts it continues to be the canary in the mine re: health care reform
The inexorable movement towards government-run healthcare
"A coalition of Massachusetts business groups – including Associated Industries of Massachusetts , the Massachusetts Association of Health Plans, and the Massachusetts Taxpayers Foundation – has sent a letter to state lawmakers urging them to override vetoes by Governor Deval Patrick on budget provisions they say are necessary for maintaining stability for employer-sponsored health plans."

Because it CAN get worse.
Imagine a Titanic without lifeboats.
Musically, I've found somebody I like.
Also, I have had conversations with several libs today about taxes, and all of them said the rich didn't "need that money," which makes me wonder:
How do you decide what someone else needs?
If they earned "that money," what gives anyone the right to take it?
And finally, can I have yours if I decide you don't "need" it?
Theft is theft. And the "rich" are not the ones they will be taking from. It will be mostly small busines persons and professionals, who will cut staff and spending in response.
This is not good. Not good at all.
Good music clip. Hell of a sweater.
That is a very rude Lily, gesturing like that.
This raising the debt ceiling business is the wrong metaphor..
In the real world when you go further and further into debt its called digging a hole.
If the republicans give in to Obama's desire for a tax increase as part of a debt ceiling raise compromise.. I will be staying home in 2012.

Fine, then. Stay home. Who the hell needs you?

What reader_iam said. And I'll throw in the words of an ancestor, "All that needs for evil to happen is for good men to do nothing".
PS Lovely pic, Madame.
PPS Posting at 2 in the AM? Dare I specualte at what else was going on at that hour?
Lily?! OK, here is mine .
Today, the very rich are practically all Democrats.
So why am I sceptical about this "Tax the rich; they can afford it!" mantra?

Because it does.

This is kind of a scary article by the writer at Asia Times whose nom de plume is Spengler (Via Instapundit):
Why We Will Be Poorer
