A perfect Sunday morning gift. As a physical therapy professional my thoughts from day one were, surviving is the least of it. She is making excellent progress, those deficits that remain will not come in leaps and bounds...but, can continue to improve for years after as she continues to work to force the function that was lost or disrupted. I caution... no one mistake expressive communication for receptive. Her ability to discern, think and use the higer executive function of her brain is not necessarily attached to expression. However, finding a method of expression encourages continued efforts to progress. God bless her and the professional team and her family on their journey.
It's heartening to see how far she's come. And like Thomas, I wish her a full and speedy recovery. Still:
Ms. Giffords remains a shadow of her former self as she has difficulty stringing together sentences and relies heavily on gestures and facial expressions to communicate.
Do you think the authorities would let me have ten minutes alone with Loughner if I promised I would use my own crowbar? I really only need five, but I want to do his kneecaps first.
She brings to mind one of the things that bother me about our "justice" system. There is no doubt, none at all, that Loughner is guilty of several counts of murder and attempted murder. Why should his competency to stand trial matter? He has no defense - Mental illness is not a defense in Federal Court. As it stands, if he is found incompetent to stand trial, he will go to a mental hospital for treatment until he is competent( or dies). We could never have a trial and never close this out.
Yes, hate losing one of my 20 NYT hits; but thank God she looks so well.
Those who condemn Loughner have it wrong. According to our betters, including the NYT, Giffords was shot by Sarah Palin. The plot is buried somewhere in the redacted emails.
I think this has been covered here before, but, the NYT doesn't count incoming links from social media toward your limit. There is a Twitter account that posts NYT article links you can use to circumvent this: http://twitter.com/#!/freeNYTimes. However, it can be difficult to locate articles older than a day or two. I've had better luck going the google.com/realtime, and searching for the title in quotes.

God bless her.
I hope and pray she recovers completely.

God bless her and her family. She looks great and her smile is great to see. She'll make it all the way back.
I wish her a speedy recovery.
Her recovery is miraculous. Hopefully she'll regain more cognitive function.
God bless.
I can't help but think of him
Good.
But when does her district get a representative again?
Surely that matters, too?
Maybe she should resign so that they can have a special election. I don't see how she is going to be able to serve any part of her term.
If she gets well enough she can run again, and if she doesn't she shouldn't be in office now anyway.
No one wants to talk about this, but this is clearly incapacity. Resignation doesn't mean she won't recover.
It is good to see some light in her face and life in her flesh. But my main reaction was anger at what that selfish horrid man did to her.
There was another article out around Friday where the prognosis wasn't so sunny.
There's a fear she's plateaued and won't improve much beyond the level she's attained.
Hopefully, they're wrong.
I wish her a full and speedy recovery.

She looks great! Keep fighting, Ms. Gifford. God bless you.
I was glad to see these, but why link to the Times, making us use one of our precious twenty page views per month, when these pictures are everywhere?

I don't come close to the 20 limit, and wouldn't mind even if I hit it.
It's not as if there's anything precious over there.
It's in the NYT because women like stories about tears, diseases and weddings.

If you guys read the papers
The thing is what is her cognitive function? Wasn't a piece of her brain blown away?
