The big Tuesday protest at the Wisconsin Capitol looked pretty mellow to me.
I mean, how can you stay angry forever?
It's summertime. Almost. Come on...
Everything's going to be all right.

I'd say it's tougher to get nasty with little kids there, but I know better.
Bottom line, they know it's over and there's no coming back on this one.
If this were a tea party gathering, the first comment would be about the unrelenting whiteness of all the participants.
Yay. Daddy's a socialist.
{ugh}
I love the tweaker in the grey t-shirt huffing his palmed Benzedrex inhaler.
Geez so many fat people. These folks need to toss the signs and go for a walk pronto.
Looking at daddy's t-shirt is the only way that kid's ever gonna learn how to make a fist.
"Geez so many fat people. These folks need to toss the signs and go for a walk pronto."
Protesting is the only exercise many of them take.
Fat. White. Uninspired.
@Dan
Yes, less money for Bugles and Cheetos now that they have to kick in more for their own bennies. Sob.
Don't Tread - yes, but when they keep the money that before they were forced to pay as dues it is a wash.
Yes!
@Dan
Nonetheless. At some point, feigned anger subsides and lives must be lived. Assuming they have productive work, of course.
Correction, Althouse: Everything's going to be all white. First, though, I bet those people are getting hungry. It's been minutes since their last meals...
The protestosterone is low.
"The protestosterone is low."
LOL
@Mary
Understood. They at least in a cynical symbolic sense are examples of trough-eaters that must be weaned.
C'mon, folks! Surely you can do better than this.
Let's fight off that old ennui with a rousing “Shame!” chant.
Everyone, now...
Looks like a nice place to stand around and people watch. Any official entertainment - jugglers, bands, rabble rousers?
What do we want?
Burritos!
When do we want them?
Now!
“What do we want?”
Shame!
No..., wait..., that's not right.
Nice crowd. Star Wars Cantina.
@Lincoln
I'm thinking their very own South Park episode.
@Lincoln
'People Who Annoy You'
Heh.
That they do, that they do.
Not a single item of Green Bay Packer wear. Dane County really has left Wisconsin.
You could put a thought bubble over most of the participants: "I'm bored"
The fatty in the blue walker is no doubt collecting disability and worried about his/her social worker's job.
They look like a bunch of tourists visiting the zoo.
Are we sure these aren't tourists?
Are they going to go home now that the court case is over?
If not, I ask again: what are they protesting now?
Looks like a tea party rally, minus the patriotism and good naturedismness...just sayin'
If not, I ask again: what are they protesting now?
Various aspects of the biennial budget, which is due 1 July.
I wanted to post something pithy but they all been done.
I enjoy the high-res photos of the protards. My local news thingy (kenosha news dot com) has nothing. Not a fsckin thing.
And THAT is why they dont sell advertisng or pulp.
MadisonMan, thanks.
The fatty in the blue walker . . .
. . . with the ironic placard "Freedom!"
No auto deduction or mandatory union dues? We'll see about this "Solidarity Forever" bullshit.
They're protesting the voters, as they have been along. Representative democracy is a barrier to the Unions, so they'll try to destroy it.
what are they protesting now?
The high price of cream puffs?
How will their minds process that they spent all this effort fighting against the raise they just got?
Reviewed the pics again-
nothing pro-America..
Plenty on Communist Fists-
They want overtime for all the protesting they been doin'.
Anyways, I looks at that crowd and thinks polycystic ovary disease.
NTTAWWT.
What's the meaning of a black kerchief in the left pocket of the anarchist poser ( "fenian" tat on the right tricep) in picture 5 or so.
Does that mean he wants black dick?
If these protesters are seeking to meet dates at their rallies, then the ugliness gene is going to spread all over. Can these guys be quarantined?
It's OBVOIUS, from the pictures, that (at least) in Wisconsin, during the Summer.... thoughts turn to beer, bratwurst, and sauerkraut.
Dean Wormer might have warned Bluto that "drunk, fat and stupid is no way to go through life" - but in Wisconsin - we seem to have made this our motto.
The Leechers' Perpetual Tantrum
Continued as the Supreme Court De-pantsed 'Em
The Rancid Tent Squatters
The Aimless Marauders
Wails of Greed to Extort a King's Ransom
"A King's ranson" - so said the wine slob. LOLOL.
More like King Henry VIII gut! LOL.
More beer! Brats! Sauerkraut! Then, a CREAM PUFF!!
OMG! IT'S MR. CREOSOTE!!!!

By the looks of these people (and I thik I'm allowed after all the Megan McArdle hubba earlier today) is any indication.. they should be protesting the first lady.
The protestosterone is low.
Good one rh..
It's nice to know that in at least one case, even though the gal in the green shirt doesn't support Walker, a walker supports her.
If the numbers are correct (I believe they are Google's numbers) Althouse is on a pace to break her own posting record of last year.
And here I thought that her marriage meant the blog would suffer.. the contrary seems to have happened.
The blog has blossomed.
Strange term Ann, I think. 'Mellow'. It very much dates you. As it does me for thinking such.
I guess, meaning what is your comparison to the use of that term. I mean, these folks aren't trying to change the world, they are trying to prevent the world from changing them.
MadTownGuy - LOLOLOL.
"A walker supports her" .... What .. IRONY! WIT! POWERS of OBSERVATION!
But, what a sad truth. No respect...for herself.... and too dumb to know the difference.
MTG: even though the gal in the green shirt doesn't support Walker, a walker supports her.
This comment is the thread's pillow mint.
I think the bet line of this whole thing is in Althouse's last photo. Everything is going to be all right.
Somehow we need a conservative John Stewart type to narrate these protests and explain to the viewers that even after the evil Scott Walker took over Madison, everyone will still have their jobs tomorrow with their massive pensions. Retirement at 55 with full pay is still the rule. And full civil service protections.
I think the unions truly fear the fact that these budget actions are going to be viewed as very popular about six months from now.
LUTHER - the problem is that World has ben supporting them. America is only 300 or so million - out of approx. 7 billion. Now, the rest of the World would like to live like... you and me.... OOOPS! Not enough resources - so do we share, or have war - nuclear war...It is coming to that. Peak oil, and, all such.
"fenian" tat on the right tricep in picture 5 or so.
Oh cool. I have people! Fenians.
Edited to add that Wisconsin IS honoring our independent and progressive heritage with the Walker initiatives.
We are the first State post the 2008 economic meltdown that proactively took decisive action to be adults and face our fiscal problems head on with the tough medicine that in the long run is the right decision.
The US Congress and President could look to Wisconsin as the example of how you can step outside of the political bubble and solve serious problems to ensure prosperity for future generations. Forward.
Btw Althouse said in another tread that we are coming up on a million comments..
I have no plans to become the one millionth commenter.. but if the loyal Althouse commenter's stop commenting to allow me the privilege of becoming the first millionth Althouse commenter.. I will gladly accept the challenge ;)
I see at least 2 non-white folk in the photos. Is it celebrate diversity day in Madison?
I was there earlier in the day. I should have been shouting, "lame, lame, lame".
enicar333.
The problem isn't resources, the problem is lack of individual freedom to strive.
The younger people are attractive, but everyone over forty has a weight problem. I don't think it's a left-right thing. More like an American thing....People in NYC are much thinner. There's an upside to anxiety and neurosis.
People in NYC are much thinner. There's an upside to anxiety and neurosis.
Mark my words: that will change now that Bloomberg's draconian anti-smoking laws are in effect.
I can haz protestz
Whenever I am in an airport in another state I am struck by how much thinner and taller people look than compared to what we see here in Wisconsin.
The Governor was polite enough not to go after uncollected insurance contributions retroactively. The budget include an additional $30 million to cover that.
It will take a while for the unions to start feeling the pinch of reduced contributions no longer given them by the state through forced payroll deduction. In the meantime, Union coffers are still full.
If it is going to be all right, it will be awhile, at least no sooner than this fall when the recalls are done.

Consider it the runner-up prize, since Meade absconded w/ the gold.
Lot's of cottage cheese on display. Yuck.
Lem, honey?
This ain't no million-man march here.
It's friggin' Althouse!
Ha ha
She's good at a lot of things, but near as I can tell?
Counting to a million isn't high on the Althouse list.
You want to be the millionth commenter, Lem? I think you're just gonna have to convince her that you've been keeping track of these sorts of things.
Just up and tell her you are in charge of the warehouse, and you're perfectly capable of keeping an accurate inventory. And commenting TOO!
Given the above? Who ELSE would be the millionth commenter on Althouse? ;)

...that's as wide as her ass!
They've got to get a better crowd. A white trash crowd at a Saturday afternoon yard sale in Frankfort, Kentucky would look like boulevardiers on the Côte d'Azur by comparison.
On the other hand Garage Mahal has a real nice doggie in the third picture from the top.
EGBOK was Ken Minyard's motto on KABC in the 70s, "Everything's going to be okay."
I think they are there in support of the creampuff matter
School must be out for the summer in Wisconsin - we can't really expect that they'd protest on their vacation time, right? It's for the children /s
It's all about Freedom Fries
We are the first State post the 2008 economic meltdown that proactively took decisive action to be adults and face our fiscal problems head on with the tough medicine that in the long run is the right decision.
Ohio is doing this, too.
.People in NYC are much thinner. There's an upside to anxiety and neurosis.
And walking to get places.
The picture of the two children in red shirts holding onto the legs of the man in the blue shirt while he tries to walk pretty much sums up this whole thing.
These pictures and an earlier comment suggest
Mellow Yellow
"....People in NYC are much thinner."
Obviously you've never ventured outside of Manhattan, or above 96th street.
