It was another protest march, last night. Something — the state of Wisconsin? — is deemed to have symbolically died. Watch for the street-theater-style cardboard coffins.
Meade catches up to a bunch of MSM photographers who are set up in mid-street. They scurry off to the sides when the crowd reaches them. Unbound by the strictures of MSM photojournalism, Meade moves forward into the crowd and continues recording as the faces stream by and walks though until he emerges at the end.
I'm not there, because I'm with my law school class, talking about the Commerce Clause. Meade needs to get back to the car so he can come by to pick me up, but he stops for a moment to hang out with a Brittany Spaniel. That's not the first dog in the video. Back in the march segment of the video, there's at least a poodle and a Great Dane.

Wisconsin's new version of Mari Gras without the beads and boobs.
What a strange New Orleans theme to be leading their Union Parade. The Majorettes are leading them in a funeral procession to their graveyard where more voodoo ceremonies will be enacted. It's Midnight in the Garden of Good (government) and Evil (unlawfulness). Madison has it all.
"This is what a gaggle of spoiled, clueless drama queens looks like."
Althouse + Meade + blogging + meadia = best and cutest couple ever.
I get the sense that Madison has
1) numerous gubmint jobs for which attendance is optional
2) a cache of trust fund babies
3) a lot of folks on the dole
4) a lot of students who do not go to class
5) plenty of retired ex-hippies
6) a clutch of out-of-state agitators
And it is clear they want those who are not in those positions to fund their parades in perpetuity.
"Waht do we want?
Papier-mâché heads!
When do we want it?
NOW!"
"What do we want?
Papier-mâché heads!"
Nature, in her eternally prescient way, granted them their request long before this. ;)
What fun!
The protest leaders should apply for a NEA grant to fund future protests. Think about it: more costumes! Better papier mache! Superior funny cheese-head hats!!
I can't wait for the stage version.
I got an invitation to this on Facebook a couple of days ago. It was called the "No Concessions Funeral March", and here was the description:
Under the banner of "No Concessions" and "Kill the Whole Bill," there will be a New Orleans-style funeral march on Thursday. It will start from the UW Library Mall at 5:00 pm, and march up to the Capitol. Expect a fantastic band such as Mama Digdowns. Each casket will have a
placard naming one of the program cuts Walker's bill would enact. We
need mourners dressed flamboyantly in funeral gear including veils,
hats, umbrellas, etc. Come dressed for a funeral, and ready to dance!
Governor's Budget Repair Bill hurts BadgerCare, transit, and other important programs. None of these provisions can stand.
I know that these folks think that the costumes and theatrics show how clever they are.
To folks who work at a job for a living, outside the confines of academia, this bullshit makes the clowns look like spoiled children who are poking them in the eye.
What better example of the waste of public money?
retired ex-hippies
Somehow this phrase reminds me of George Carlin's question: "What do dogs do on their day off? They can't lie around; that's their job."
The more I see, the less I can take these people or their position seriously. And the less it seems to have to do with actual teachers and more with the far left in general. That sign with the upraised fist just doesn't seem very teacherly to me.
I got my weekly New Richmond News yesterday, and the school officials are going to have to lay off about 50 teachers. They are short about $2.5 million.
Headline page 2A:
Wisconsin's financial mess hampers nursing home planning
Hey! I've got a good idea, why don't we have a fake fucking funeral procession in Madison? That should help. Right?
This parade portends a massive hangover in the morrow.
Its an American version of Honne and Tatemae..
Honne refers to a person's true feelings and desires. These may be contrary to what is expected by society or what is required according to one's position and circumstances, and they are often kept hidden, except with one's closest friends.
Tatemae literally "façade," is the behavior and opinions one displays in public. Tatemae is what is expected by society and required according to one's position and circumstances, and these may or may not match one's honne.
Via Freakonomics.
A strange dancing woman lures New Media Meade over to a funeral procession.
Wow - a strange woman did the same thing to John Edwards.

Althouse, you've got a lot of psychotics on SSI in Madison. We've got that contingent in Woodstock, too.
Do you still find this trash interesting in some way?
I lost interest in that trash and their fantasy world a long time ago.
"Some Nazi" comments on the Wisconsin union protesters.
None of these provisions can stand.
And that's what I keep running into when discussing the budget repair bill with those who oppose it: Ok, you don't like ANY of these provisions...how do YOU propose to balance the budget? To which I usually receive only dumbfounded silence and muttering in response...

I disagree. They always give me an answer: RAISE TAXES!
So, the folks in the private sector are supposed to pony up even more, even though the folks in the private sector don't have job security and gold plated pensions.

Oh, come now. You know perfectly well what their preferred method would be, without even having to ask.
Lem you give them too much credit. I think they're paying tribute to their labor-rights heroes - the Molly Maguires - and using this imagery as a subtle terror threat.
Add up the actual working people what have to support them, as they walk by.
Brittany Spears is named for the Brittany Spaniel. So apt.
Demonstrations are good places to train dogs, working on heel and various stays, and signal recall.
It's 100% distraction.
Many of the red printed signs say "BLAME WALL STREET - No Concessions."
I thought concessions were already agreed to and a reason why Walker's bill was unneeded?
Crack, Meade is no John Edwards. Which is a good thing.
EDH, the concessions were given by people in no position to give them.
Two out of hundreds of unions.
So, the protesters carrying the coffins have a point. They ARE killing the state.
"there's at least a poodle and a Great Dane."
Lot's of poodles, many with protest signs.
If they want the public's money for this they should carry donation baskets.
Egad, looks like the Mummers Parade without the banjos (NTTAWWT).
I can imagine why Meade was fascinated by the "strange dancing woman" (Oh. My. God. She's lost it! The creamy hippie love chick center finally broke through!!).

But who will tell Slobbering Barney and the President of the MPAA?
And what of The Zero?
Where will he get his under the table campaign cash?
They always give me an answer: RAISE TAXES!
You would think asking them to pay a 5% increase in tax for services only they receive wouldn't be such a big deal.
What we are seeing around the country is the emerging reality that although taxing the rich may sustain a middle class of private sector taxpayers, it cannot sustain an upper middle class of public employees as well. It's pretty obvious to anyone who stops and thinks about it for the shortest time.
Either they have not, or they don't care. This makes them unworthy of support.
omg priceless
I suspect none of our anti-Warner commenters will come up with a reasoned response to bagoh's last comment. They typically don't let the merits get in the way of a good emotional meme.
"Meade moves forward into the crowd and continues recording as the faces stream by"
aka the Althouse Salmon. I noticed Althouse using this technique at the Breitbart rally.

Huh? That's funny, all I saw were sheep.
I only saw one Fascism sign and absolutely no swastikas. If there was no hyperbole, there was no exuberance. They all seemed rather dour. This was not the San Francisco Gay Pride parade. I suppose you could say that for a rainy day in late winter that that was a good sized crowd. And there's the rub. Civil servants will be much more militant and conscientious in trying to preserve their plush and cush, than taxpayers will be in trying to limit such perks. No one will sleep on marble floors for lower taxes.
That sign with the upraised fist just doesn't seem very teacherly to me.
Maybe they are a student, and this is there way of wanted to get called on in class?
Could someone explain to me why the protesters think acting like a bunch of clowns at a circus parade will make people take them seriously?
To me it looked a bit like Mary Poppins having a try at getting airborne. She needs to turn into the wind.
The bobbed blond wig and long skirt; coincidence or parody of our host?
What Pogo said......do any of these people have jobs for which they have to like show up and work?
The sign with the blue fist is the symbol of AFL-CIO.
There were pins with this same symbol on some of the protesters on one of the videos at the Capital
Perhaps that explains some of the behaviour.

And still no puppets!
Blame Wall Street...
No Concessions
Given the printed nature of those signs someone is searching for a narrative that will get traction.
The masks did it for me. I'm ready to impeach Walker after seeing that.
"They always give me an answer: RAISE TAXES!"
Better still: "revenue enhancement"
