... for showing your appreciation for my diligent bloggerly scribblings by starting your shopping here:
On most items, Amazon is sharing 7% of the purchase price with me, so it's really quite a big deal... costing you nothing more than you'd pay anyway. So, if you've been enjoying the daily nuggets of interestingness on this blog, make it the jumping-off point for whatever diverse consumerism is on your personal agenda.

Why don't you offer to share half that 7% with me, the consumer? The fact that you don't is the only thing that keeps me from ordering through your blog.
@jimbino That would violate the terms of service.
Sorry Ann, I bought my 50-inch plasma TV from Amazon last month before I noticed your Amazon portal. I'll use it in the future though. I enjoy your blog.
Lawgiver: See, what you do, is you return it and then buy it again through Ann's portal.
I promise, Ann, once I decide between the 80mm F/1.8 or the 70-200mm f/4, I'll go through your Amazon portal. I just don't know which direction I want to go with my photography. It'll be my first non-kit lens! Oh, the stress.
"Portal"... I like that term.
Portal...that's what Andrew Sullivan calls Sarah Palin's vagina.
Got some German candles. Probably didn't even pay for a small cup of coffee for you.
Planning on buying an LCD soon...glad to know I can "pay you back" a little for the daily read. Other than direct family, you're usually the first person I check with in the morning and last thing checked before bed.
The link is broken for me. Doesn't show up at all on the page. Also garbled in the RSS feed.
What link?
We see this in the RSS feed:
<A HREF="http://ws.amazon.com/widgets/q?ServiceVersion=20070822&MarketPlace=US&ID=V20070822%2FUS%2Falthouse-20%2F8002%2F3a22dfae-914b-4823-8a05-e65d8f7fb434&Operation=NoScript">Amazon.com Widgets</A>
But I click through and see nothing. I assumed it was a glitch!
Wait, now I'm not seeing the Amazon box on the right-hand side of the page!
@Jana Thanks. I'd made it wider. I'll narrow it.
How is it now?
Longtime reader (and fellow Newark DE native). I plan on doing all my shopping through Amazon this year, hopefully you'll see some coin. Please know that your bloggerly scribblings are very much appreciated...
My ex wanted some help with ordering an xbox and kinect on the intertubes (I think she wants to dance those pounds away).
We started here, Hope it helps a little, I love the prof's blog.
Enough with the blegging. Please stop.
I was cubing up a block of Wisconsin white cheddar when the cheese slicer I'd been using since college (2-plus decades) went "sproing" and the wire/handle assembly disintegrated. I think it might have been my second-oldest possession of any kind. So I replaced it through this link.
As far as the "blegging" goes, I think those who have complained about it should immediately get their money back if they're dissatisfied with those posts. Because it's not as if you can just skip them.
And I'm sure those who appreciate the blog and the blogger don't mind, which brings to mind my eternal question about such things: Why would someone continually return to a place they dislike, peopled by commenters they despise? Honestly, what is wrong with someone who does that?
In additon to the revenue, the purchases from Amazon probably gives you a good picture of the type of people that appreciate your blog. It'd be interesting to see the list, or at least a "best seller" list.
I bought a couple of books from Amazon from authors that you had recently mentioned. That didn't cause me to buy the books, but it felt good to make a contribution to your blog.
@fivewheels - why should I skip what I dislike without comment? Do you think our hostess wants only agreement with what she writes? If that is what she wants, I've been had for the last six years.

Were it only one the first post with links to items personally recommended by Althouse, I would have no problem.
It's the continuing begging with the "appeal from personality" overtones and the mention of specific $amounts and percentages that are grating and crass.
Even Instapundit, with his multiple daily Amazon links, has never stooped that low.

It's only grating if you pay attention to it. It takes a microsecond to skip over the parts of the blog that are not of interest or that you dislike.
It's not your blog, but you can customize it by just reading the posts you want to. Personally, I see nothing wrong with being candid about wanting positive feedback for something that one puts a lot of effort into.
Received my two orders of Young Cookware sets yesterday. It should have put $2.15 in your pocket. Not much, but I'll toss a Paypal gift at you around Christmas.
I'm not saying anyone doesn't have the right to complain, or that Althouse doesn't enjoy the ill-tempered troll-type posters. I'm just not understanding what drives these things.
I don't like the American Idol/DWTS posts, so I move right along. It seems pretty simple to me. And I don't go to blogs about new-age poetry or Oregon football and complain about how the people there are all stupid hippies (or whatever the opposite of hillbillies are) for months on end. Why would I? Seriously, why would I?
Just bought a few things through searches here -- a baseball mitt, a hand vacuum, and a video game. Thanks for providing interesting (and free!) content.
Please Note:
If you use a Firefox browser with Adblock, the Amazon button is not visible. I had to briefly turn off Adblock and reload the page to use it.
