Obama is just being the real Obama here. He is steeped in the ideology that all stored American middle class wealth is stolen from peasants all over the world. Ergo: friends ( Comrades)help one another steal it back while Enemies are those guarding the house from the thieves coming out during the night of Media falsehoods as a cover. It appears that the American middle class has awoken and is now guarding its house again from the Comrades of Kommissar Obama. Palin is in the heart of this battle and she is tactically going after the Media that willingly disguises Obama's army of thieves with fictional "News".
If punishing our enemies is the way to go, bring it. I'm game. The first round of punishment starts tomorrow. I hope Barry and Co. have a good appetite for it.
I wonder why Obama would use such an "inartful" turn of phrase, as "punish our enemies".
I suspect that he was talking down to a group that he considers less educated and less capable of nuance than himself ("Latinos",as he referred to them) and so he reduced things to black-and-white distinctions and very simple common words and concepts like "enemy" and "friend".
(There's a big difference between Nixon and Obama: I don't think that Nixon was as condescending.)
Now, I don't think that Obama used this word, enemy, only because of condescension; I think that Obama really believes that certain groups in this country are his enemy, in a real, visceral sense. Multiple times, he's demonstrated thinly veiled or naked disdain for whites, for people from rural areas, for gun owners, for small businessmen.
I think the amount of hatred and bile in Obama's gut is probably the biggest similarity between him and Nixon.
Except he didn't say that. What Obama did say is that that Latinos should reward their friends and punish their enemies.
Is Obama asserting he's a Latino? Does Obama particularly identify with Latinos?
I think the professor should start calling her own fouls. Quoted at her link:
“If Latinos sit out the election instead of saying, ‘We’re gonna punish our enemies, and we’re gonna reward our friends who stand with us on issues that are important to us’
No, Clinton was like Nixon, only worse; The Zero is a pansy in comparison. What he does, however, is use the Alinsky rap when he campaigns to sound tough.
deborah said...
And yet, I still can't predict with accuracy if he'll be a two-termer.
You're starting to worry me, dear. I detect the faintest traces of Titu.., er, America's Politico.
(This isn't one of those "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" things, is it?)
Is he Nixonish with the press now?
No, they still pretty much love him, but I think we're about to see a Twilight of a Sort of God.
(The Crypto Jew) “If Latinos sit out the election instead of saying, ‘We’re gonna punish our enemies, and we’re gonna reward our friends who stand with us on issues that are important to us’
Parsing words, eh FLS? Obama wants Latinos to vote for HIS party, and punish THEIR enemies…so I’d say that Obama identifies with Latinos, and other People of Colour, and shares their enemies list….
I disagree that Latinos should feed the mouths that bite them. As Hillel said, "If I am not for myself, who will be for me? But if I am only for myself, who am I? If not now, when?"
The professor also forgets that John McCain tagged Obama as "That one" in a debate. Now, did Obama accept the mantle of "That One" or was that button made by another jokester.
Are suggesting Althouse or the GOP would misrepresent something about Obama?
Apparently the President is okay with the idea that Latinos are monolithic and all share the same "enemy". Thus, President Obama cares not a whip for the "content of their character" argument regarding race. He's much more interested in stereotypes and quite possibly should be engaged as such. Epic fail.
FLS: I disagree that Latinos should feed the mouths that bite them.
Now FLS is race baiting. Obama is easily the most racially divisive president in recent memory. As your true colors finally show, the American people are rejecting the left's hatred and bile.
You do put the Obama quote in the proper context. He was telling Latinos to punish their enemies. And that makes him look even worse. Is it really a good idea for the President to be telling Americans that other Americans are their "enemies" and they should punish them? Yeah, that is some real hope and change for you.
GUANTANAMO BAY NAVY BASE, Cuba — A military jury on Sunday gave teen terrorist Omar Khadr a 40-year prison sentence for killing an American commando in Afghanistan, but the sentence was merely symbolic — the United States already had agreed to limit Khadr's prison time to eight years, and Canada last week said it would allow Khadr to serve the bulk of his sentence there.
Canada had been cagey in public about its agreement to the deal, under which Khadr pleaded guilty to war crimes. But the military judge at Khadr's trial on Sunday released an exchange of diplomatic notes between the U.S. and Canadian governments that included Canada's assertion that it "is inclined to favourably consider Mr. Khadr's application to be transferred to Canada to serve the remainder of his sentence'' or whichever portion Canada's National Parole Board decides is required.
Except he didn't say that. What Obama did say is that that Latinos should reward their friends and punish their enemies.
Is there any lie you won't tell?
Obama said "We're gonna punish our enemies and we're gonna reward our friends who stand with us on issues that are important to us." (Quotes in the Washington Post.)
Sounds like Mafia talk. The entire sentence doesn't sound any better than the first 5 words. Hell, Nixon knew better than say that in public, but he didn't have the press in his pocket.
I don't remember Nixon being condescending either and I couldn't stand the guy. He's the reason I didn't even consider voting Republican for 30 years.
I think that Obama really believes that certain groups in this country are his enemy, in a real, visceral sense.
It's not just Obama but a sizabe portion of the lefties think that way.
Now I must ask if DADvocate is dishonest or merely stupid. Obama was not talking about his enemies, but the enemies of Latinos.
The Washington Post quote I found corresponds with the quote Althouse linked to:
"If Latinos sit out the election instead of saying, 'We're gonna punish our enemies and we're gonna reward our friends who stand with us on issues that are important to us,' if they don't see that kind of upsurge in voting in this election, then I think it's gonna be harder," Obama said.
Maybe from a paranoia point of view, but overall, I would think that Clinton is closer than Obama to Nixon.
Nixon and Clinton were probably the smartest Presidents of the previous 65, maybe even 100 years. And, in the end, Tricky Dick resigned to prevent being impeached, and Slick Willy took the impeachment to keep from resigning. Both dishonored the office. Carter, and now Obama, seem to be diminishing the office by being so much smaller than it, but that is a far cry from the dishonoring done by Nixon and Clinton.
Finally, I am not sure if Obama really is as paranoid as Nixon was (but was Nixon really that paranoid, or were they really after him?) Rather, he seems to be trying to incite paranoia in his constituents, which is very different. The Dems have long been the party of divisions, with their strength their ability to play different groups off against each other. And, this looks just like more of that.
Is it really a good idea for the President to be telling Americans that other Americans are their "enemies" and they should punish them?
Everybody has enemies, as the President knows only too well.
January 16, 2009 I got a request here from a major American print publication. "Dear Rush: For the Obama [Immaculate] Inauguration we are asking a handful of very prominent politicians, statesmen, scholars, businessmen, commentators, and economists to write 400 words on their hope for the Obama presidency. We would love to include you. If you could send us 400 words on your hope for the Obama presidency, we need it by Monday night, that would be ideal." ...
So I'm thinking of replying to the guy, "Okay, I'll send you a response, but I don't need 400 words, I need four: I hope he fails." -- Rush Limbaugh
Let's not argue symantics, FLS. Do you agree with his characterization or not? If so, do white people have enemies collectively? Do blacks? Any way you slice it, it was an abhorrent thing for a residing President to say.
There was something cold and Machiavellian about Nixon's dislikes. In domestic politics, all that cold scheming proved disastrous, but in international relations, it certainly had a plus side....Obama's dislikes seem impulsive and not especially well thought out. This impulsivity doesn't seem to be working either domestically or internationally and probably limits his golf game. Obama does, however, remain a likeable person, and that's an advantage that Nixon never had.
It is notable that Robert E. Lee only once referred to the Union army as 'the enemy' and that was on the third day at Gettysburg. Up to that point, he always referred to the Union forces as 'those people'.
But I don't think that would work in Obama's favor anymore than making us sit in the back.
In my previous post, I suggested that maybe Nixon wasn't as paranoid as everyone thought he was. Or, is it paranoia when they really are after you?
The problem is that Nixon became a target of the east coast intelligentsia when he got into Communist hunting in the early 1950s, before becoming VP under Ike. If they could have brought him down along with McCarthy, they would have. And, they didn't forget this, when, almost 2 decades later, he became President. So, yes, he had long term enemies who had a lot of power, and who used it against him.
I suspect that Nixon's problem there though was that he took it personally. Pretty much any President, except maybe Ike, has had enemies. It just comes with the territory, and their job is to rise above it, ignore it, and not try to get even through the use of the powers of the Presidency.
The worrisome thing about the Obama Administration is that they really do seem to be using the powers of the Presidency to reward friends and destroy enemies. Before this, it has been on a much less formal basis. Now, though, we are seeing the full might of the federal government being deployed against enemies of the Obama Administration (ok, the Clinton Administration did, apparently, misuse the IRS, and maybe, FBI, against their enemies, but this now appears small potatoes compared to the Obama Administration).
Haven't you been paying attention? Rhetorical question……Big Sis already revealed who the Administration’s “enemies” were, very early on…Obama is just letting the mask drop. FLS just doesn’t like seeing it, it’s too damaging to his/her psyche I guess.
The worrisome thing about the Obama Administration is that they really do seem to be using the powers of the Presidency to reward friends and destroy enemies.
Boehner crushed; Mitch McConnell gasping for breath -- the Obama steamroller just goes on and on.
Obama knows the true enemy is the small businessman. You know like all those Latinos that own bodega's and stuff.
You know in New York City there is a move to let bodega owners get a licensed gun after another Latino owner was murdered last week just like his brother was murdered ten years ago.
I wonder what the President's position on that is?
Limbaugh announces himself to be Obama's implacable foe, which proves that Obama's only enemies are talk radio hosts? FLS, Obama is STILL Limbaugh’s POTUS. His job is to not have enemies at home, UNLESS they are threatening violent overthrow of the Government of the United States, he has OPPONENTS, at home. There’s a difference…Hitler was our enemy, Thomas Dewey was FDR’s opponent. I pity you if you can’t grasp the difference.
Apparently the President is okay with the idea that Latinos are monolithic and all share the same "enemy"
If you don't think latinos have enemies you haven't been paying attention. Ask Rep. Raul Grijalva whose office has been literally attacked twice, with refried bean swastikas and rocks thrown through windows. These are friends are they?
fls, I think there's a difference between "political opponent" and "enemy".
At least there is for me.
Obama hasn't yet reached the stage where I'd consider him an enemy. His plans for re-education camps and forcible conscription in the Americorps brownshirts were publicized too soon and he had to scrap them; otherwise I might consider him an enemy.
If you don't think Latinos have enemies you haven't been paying attention. Ask Rep. Raul Grijalva So this PROVES, Latinos have “enemies?” Looks to me like GRIJALVA has enemies…but I didn’t realize one Latino was ALL Latino’s…I guess they are when they vote the right way, though? I mean if it happened to Marco Rubio or some other self-hating Latino/a it wouldn’t mean anything larger, right?
If you don't think latinos have enemies you haven't been paying attention.
Do whites have enemies, Garage? Are they in office (elected or otherwise)? Do blacks? Are they in office (elected or otherwise)?
Aside from both sets of questions, do you believe it's appropriate for the POTUS to be talking about these kinds of things when trying to gin up votes?
Garage, how do you throw a "refried bean swastika"? The consistency has to be JUST right? I recommend a large flat launching surface and a smooth delivery….not that I am an expert on throwing refried swastika’s.
By the way -- most "Latinos" I know would bop you in the nose for lumping them in with other "Latinos".
There are Mexican Americans, and Puerto Rican Americans, and Dominican Americans, and so on. And the Mexican Americans prefer to be called "Mexican American", or just "American". I've never known anyone that called themselves "Latino".
From the Politico story: House Republican Leader John Boehner plans to hammer President Obama during an election-eve rally on Monday night, for his use of the word “enemies” during an interview with Univision radio that got huge play in the conservative blogosphere.
OMG! Obama's all about teh ENEMIES of TEH STATE! TOTALITARIAN SOJALLESMASM!!one!
The president said: “If Latinos sit out the election instead of saying, ‘We’re gonna punish our enemies, and we’re gonna reward our friends who stand with us on issues that are important to us’ — if they don’t see that kind of upsurge in voting in this election — then I think it’s going to be harder. And that’s why I think it’s so important that people focus on voting on November 2nd.” Uh- wait, that doesn't sound so bad. In remarks prepared for delivery to a rally in Cincinnati with Rob Portman, the GOP nominee for Senate in Ohio, and John Kasich, the GOP nominee for Ohio governor, Boehner says:
“Ladies and gentlemen, we have a president in the White House who referred to Americans who disagree with him as ‘our enemies.’...Mr. President, there's a word for people who have the audacity to speak up in defense of freedom, the Constitution, and the values of limited government that made our country great. We don't call them ‘enemies.’ We call them ‘patriots.’”
There you have it. Not voting is PATRIOTIC. Thanks, Ann!
So either he's creating an enemies' list or inciting a race war. This is not a win-win for Obama. FLS - apologize to the professor for your mendaciousness.
BTW, have you noticed the last week a new meme is appearing among the lefty commentariat in here. They are trying to tar Althouse as a right-wing, mendacious extremist who should be shunned by all correct thinkers. They have some gall to say this to the hostess.
The street gang ethos is second nature to Barry the Coke Head. The feelings of worth, acceptance and empowerment that is derived from being in a FIGHT against enemies is a basic group dynamic. Trial lawyers fake it all of the time. If you can, rent and watch Jimmy Stewart's trial lawyer role in Anatomy of a Murder. It is 98% true to life in its courtroom struggle played by Stewart for the hearts and minds of the Judge and Jury. And it always worked for me too.
Enemy 1: one that is antagonistic to another; especially : one seeking to injure, overthrow, or confound an opponent
antagonistic 1. Showing or feeling active opposition or hostility toward someone or something.
Limbaugh proclaimed that he was Obama's enemy when he demonstrated he was antagonistic to Obama when he actively opposed Obama for Obama's supposed liberal ideas. We know Limbaugh actively opposed Obama for Obama's supposed liberal ideas, because he said he wanted to win against Obama, and because he said "if my party has sacrificed the whole concept of victory [against Obama and his ideas], that makes me the sellout." (All this can be found in that day's Limbaugh transcript).
Given your increasingly dizzy attempts at tergiversating the baldly abhorrent "We're gonna punish our enemies" as being acceptable (or even marginally defensible, for that matter) political campaign rhetoric: your admitted cluelessness is, I assure you, my profound relief.
By the way -- most "Latinos" I know would bop you in the nose for lumping them in with other "Latinos".
HOWARD JOHNSON IS RIGHT. I've listened to round tables on national media in which a group of Latino/Hispanic (whatever) journalists cannot even agree what to call themselves, let alone what we should. I heard a black, I mean, Afro-American, I mean African-American, I mean colored...journalist chastise them for not knowing what to call themselves.
It was probably one of the most hysterical unplanned comedy I've ever heard. The irony was choking.
When Nixon had every reason to contest the 1960 presidential thievery committed by the Dems he declined to do so because he placed the well-being of the nation above the political fortunes of Richard Nixon. In other words Nixon acted as a patriot. Not even lefties can conflate Hussein and patriotism.
FLS - if the American people were disgusted by Limbaugh's "I hope he fails" statement, then they would have driven him straight from the air. But his audience remains at peak levels. So obviously Obama is the enemy of the American people and Rush had the good sense to point it out early.
By the way -- most "Latinos" I know would bop you in the nose for lumping them in with other "Latinos".
Only the Cubans I know get cranky when you lump them with other Latinos. "Latinos" refers to people who came here from Latin America, and to a lesser extent, to their descendants.
Of course free markets SUCK, so the real answer is to enact the Fairness Doctrine and drive Limbaugh from the air. We won't touch NPR though, they're truly fair & balanced.
fls, if quoting Webster makes you feel better about your boyfriend's embarrassing lack of political instincts, and his inability to hide his hatred for his fellow Americans, then good for you.
Again, a political opponent is not the same as an enemy. Not yet, anyway.
Openly confesses an inability to grok even simple, straightforward declarative sentences... and thinks others have (somehow) been relegated to "the corner."
Latinos covers a very diverse category. Many are upper class and claim predominantly Spanish blood lines. Many are poorer than dirt peasants. But most have a high morality of family loyalty from the Catholic Church's mercy and concern for families. So Obama is following Reid's lead here trying to appeal to Latinos as if they are one family needing protection from Democrats who want no borders. And Obama is right to claim that he has blocked all border enforcement. But many Latinos are against in influx of newbies fighting for their jobs here...unless you are a paid Government Re-Distributer.
What did you all think a community organizer does? He typically points one community towards another and scream "social injustice!". Barack will never escape his roots, planted firmly at the 1983 Cooper Union Socialists conference.
"The moon is made of green cheese" -- sample of a simple straightforward declarative sentence that I cannot grok.
Doubtless. Your point being...?
To repeat: Given your increasingly dizzy attempts at tergiversating the baldly abhorrent "We're gonna punish our enemies" as being acceptable (or even marginally defensible, for that matter) political campaign rhetoric: your admitted cluelessness is, I assure you, my profound relief.
Show me here on the "special" dolly which one(s) of the mean, hard words above hurt you, honey.
Fls it is almost impossible for a law abiding store owner to get a hand gun license. I know because I have tried and it was impossible.
The City Council whould have to make an exception but they won't. Law abiding small businessmen who want to protect their stores are not someone they care about.
So far it seems to be pretty much everyone. Doctors who cruelly rip out tonsils and hack off feet for money, small business people, Chamber of Commerce members, Insurance people, investement advisors, bankers, all of Wall Street, boy scouts, white policemen, religious people from the middle of the country, NRA members, talk show hosts, Fox News people, all Republicans.....it is a pretty extensive list.
I don't think Obama likes anyone except for maybe his children.
What is this compulsion of the so called liberals to group people into ethnic and racial categories and then try to pit the groups against each other?
I think in this context "Latinos" were "people who listen to Univision radio." There's a certain amount of ethnic self-identification going on here -- i don't think Obama invented the concept.
But I'm intrigued with the concept that, absent the liberals, Latinos would have no enemies.
He's a weak pussy! And he's a thug! He’s a moron, he’s an evillllll genius, wow now FLS wants consistency when attacking the POTUS, didn’t seem to bother you or yours when it was Bush ’43. Any way he can be a coward AND a thug…I believe that’s what parents tell their children about bullies all the time. He fears too much, a coward, and uses thuggish tactics, because a fair fight scares him…
If you don't think latinos have enemies you haven't been paying attention. Ask Rep. Raul Grijalva whose office has been literally attacked twice, with refried bean swastikas and rocks thrown through windows. These are friends are they?
so much fail. grivalja's office wsan't smeared with refried swastikas, the state capitol was, and the police DO think it was friends of grivalja since they also wrote AZ=NAZI in frijole.
Well, insurance people and investment advisors are parasites -- skimming the fruits of the sweat of one's brow to mix a metaphor. I wouldn't blame him. But I haven't seen any active hatred there.
As for Wall Street, he voted for the bailout. Maybe he grudges them the money but he gave it to them anyway.
But I'm intrigued with the concept that, absent the liberals, Latinos would have no enemies. Well here’s a clue, FLS, in a word “No.” Certain Latino may have enemies…I assume various gang members fear and hate one another…I assume illegal/undocumented Democrats fear and hate la Migra….but do Latino’s, as a group, have enemies, no…UNLESS you are trying the Progressive/Marxist “us against Them” racial/social/class rhetoric…where ALL Latinos, except for the “coconuts-brown on the outside but white on the inside, have as their enemies the Oppressive White Hetero-Normative Patriarchal Capitalist System. Beyond that tell me who Latino are to fear?
What is this compulsion of the so called liberals to group people into ethnic and racial categories and then try to pit the groups against each other?
How does this thread continue, when I have answered all questions?
This compulsion is about scamming the Fed for money. Liberals "group people into ethnic and racial categories and then try to pit the groups against each other" so that they can loot the treasury.
former law student said... "Obama: "We’re gonna punish our enemies...""
Except he didn't say that. What Obama did say is that that Latinos should reward their friends and punish their enemies.
Is Obama asserting he's a Latino? Does Obama particularly identify with Latinos?
I think the professor should start calling her own fouls. Quoted at her link:
“If Latinos sit out the election instead of saying, ‘We’re gonna punish our enemies, and we’re gonna reward our friends who stand with us on issues that are important to us’ ____________________________
This argument is flat out wrong. The assertion that Republicans are Latinos' enemies and Democrats are their friends is Obama's. The fact that he placed this assertion is someone else's voice is irrelevant.
The fact that FLS has to distort his own thinking to identify this as an Althouse "foul" is an indictment both of his criticism and his thinking process.
Well, insurance people and investment advisors are parasites -- skimming the fruits of the sweat of one's brow to mix a metaphor. What are you out of your FRIKK’N mind!?!?! Insurance and investment advisors, PARASITES!? Geeeeeez, you are dense and clueless…so when the house burns down, you’re self-insured? When you run you’re business and the client slips on the Coke spilled on the floor, you’re self-insured? So you can tell me what is the most advantageous retirement fund for someone of my means and predilections? What do you do for a living, and please explain why YOU aren’t a parasite?
Obama was not talking about his enemies, but the enemies of Latinos.
Not nearly as stupid at you. Obama used the word "We're". That's a contraction of the words "We are". When one uses "We" he is including himself in the group to which he is referring. This is fairly basic English grammar, dumb ass.
Obama is saying "We are going to punish our enemies..." Meaning himself and all the other people to which he refers. Do you ever consider just how stupid you make yourself appear when try to twist the simple rules of grammer, logic, etc. to meet your foundationless points?
That's funny - for some reason I'm not seeing any actual individuals' names in the quote. Do I need special glasses,a decoder-ring or a magical rock in order to see them?
"PAY NO ATTENTION TO THE CURRENT WORLD HISTORY BEHIND THE CURTAIN! YOU MUST FOCUS ONLY ON THE SIDESHOWS IN YOUR OWN COUNTRY! KEEP ALL DOORS LOCKED & ALL TELEVISIONS ON AT ALL TIMES!"
so much fail. grivalja's office wsan't smeared with refried swastikas, the state capitol was, and the police DO think it was friends of grivalja since they also wrote AZ=NAZI in frijole.
I didn't say Grivalja office was smeared with a frijole swastika. Grivalja's office did receive an envelope with white powder with a swastika written on it though. This after gunshots breaking windows at his office earlier in the year. May have been the man they arrested for making death threats against him. I'm sure this call be explained, and there are really no enemies here. As with the noose faxes to Rep Clyburn, or the bricks thrown Rep. Slaughter's office, or the white powder mailed to Rep. Weiner with "drop dead" message, or the man arrested for allegedly threatening to kill Sen. Patty Murray, or Glenn Beck disciple Byron Williams, who set out to kill people at Tides Foundation and ACLU. Should I go on?
Garage would you care to discuss the “fun” at the various G-20 and IMF meetings? Mayhap you’d just like to slink back off, as much of the stuff you wrote about has almost NO connection to Rightwing actions, but the stuff I just mentioned is very much Leftwing violence…
Obfuscation Garage ? Nice try I guess you just don’t want to own up to the fact that your side commits REAL, large-scale violence, and whilst much of what you quoted, no doubt breathlessly, can’t even be laid at the feet of any particular cause? Who sent white powder who threw bricks, you want us to BELIEVE, that it HAD to be right-wingers, when I can certainly see it is LEFTWINGERS that trashed Seattle.
Ah no. Just pointing out real evidence of people having enemies. Why would you assume right wingers did it? I didn’t assume it, you did. And this proves LATINOS have enemies? I can hate Jorge and that doesn’t make me an enemy of LATINOS…this is not difficult to grasp. Or is it your contention that if I hate one person of any group I hate all that group? Your logic, if that’s what you chose to call it, is puzzling.
No I didn't. Where? I notice you only use examples of Leftwing victims. It gives one pause…so on with the question how does it “prove’ Latinos have enemies? Please demonstrate this proposition.
"former law student said... Troop, try again now that the Supreme Court recognizes the Second Amendment."
Bloomberg doesn't believe in obeying the law. Just look at what he did with term limits. He does what he wants and dares you to try and stop him.
He doesn't want shopkeepers to be able to defend themselves. He always says to leave it in the hands of the police. Because when every second counts the cops are only ten minutes away.
This post comparing Nixon to Obama is like salt poured onto a slug for Garage and FLS. Cut them some slack for reacting with inane nonsequiturs...think of the agony of that slug dissolving under that salt. Defending a man like Obama is darn near impossible these days, but FLS and Garage have normally done an excellent job of it.
I tend to agree with Levin more often than I disagree, but I'll be wholly honest in admitted the guy is a first rate smug asshole who I can't stand to listen to for longer than the commercial break on the channel I'm actually listening to. Add that smug assholeness to that tinny, shrill tone of voice, and you've got the makings of a dying with dignity aid.
The difference between Obama and Nixon is this, Nixon's perceived enemies were individuals, named people, hence the infamous list. Obama's enemies are whole classes of Americans, particularly upper middle income earners. These are the people who mostly own and operate small businesses, a key component of our national prosperity. In Obama's eyes these people are kulaks, a class that must be destroyed if his envisioned societal transformation is to take place.
Erkle envisions himself as a modern Robbin Hood, where he has the downtrodden's best interests at heart. Therefore instead of actually riding out into the country-side and literally stealing hard-working people's treasure, he just asks for his cadre of capo's known as the Democrat Party to legislate it his outright wealth redistributionist theft instead. He is really punishing the American people and specifically those that voted for him. Will moronic Democrat voters not ever see how they are being used as tools, day in and day out by these people to keep them under constant subjugation and indentured servitude? Of course not because they have been deliberately been dumbed down for over 6 decades with successive generations entrenching themselves even more by the accolades towards Democrats by previous generations and the wondrous things they've done for them.
Here is a typical bullshit story from the New York Times about the hand gun issue. Please note that it is Hispanic bodega owners who want to protect themselves. I know of several people who were deined licenses because they "couldn't show need." That is what they mean when they say no one was deined. No one that they said had a "need" were denied. It is a subtle yet clear difference and exactly how Bloombery operates. He says "Go ahead and apply....and then they deny."
Who is the real enemy of the Hispanic Bodega Owners? Riddle me that Obamaman.
FYI, Mark Levin's been calling him Barack Milhouse Obama since forever.
Perfectly reasonable, when one considers how the left has spent the last two years lecturing and hectoring us, non-stop, that only the meanest sort of racist swine would ever utter The Beneficent One's real, true middle name in polite company.
Really, TradGuy you LIKED Nixon. As a Pragmatic, Libertarian-Conservative Republican, he stepped on everything I believed in…plus his domestic agenda is what endures, OSHA, Affirmative Action, and the like…his Foreign Policy was repudiated, by the GOP, in 1976 and then in 1980 by Reagan…
If it weren’t for Nixon’s enemies, not his enemies LIST, I can’t think of a reason for Republicans OR a Conservative to like Nixon…really just because Ted Kennedy couldn’t stand him doesn’t make him anything to write home about.
And Scottm though you are obviously wrong about the zombie threat I whole-heartedly concur in your dislike of Levin…bright guy, yes, right guy, yes…but oh his .
When the guy is right, he's right. We need to punish our enemies. He's appealing to people who don't (or shouldn't be) voting. I'm appealing to all the rest. By now you know exactly who they are. Remember, you've been paying these people to be your enemies. Fire the S.O.B.s.
And Scottm though you are obviously wrong about the zombie threat I whole-heartedly concur in your dislike of Levin…bright guy, yes, right guy, yes…but oh his .
Speaking of which, "Walking Dead" on AMC was surprisingly good. Very well written minus the 28 Days opening and, I thought, very well acted. I simply don't watch a lot of tv these days, so I'd literally forgotten how annoying commercial breaks are :)
As far as the EMP alternative to the zombie apocalypse, how does a Carrington solar event grab you?
I would say repeated death threats and rocks through your office proves you have enemies. What else would you call it? 1) But they AREN’T death threats and rocks, these were INDIVIDUAL actions, unless you are claiming that people REPEATEDLY got white powder and rocks. See Garage, 10 things happening, once isn’t REPEATED, it’s ten individual things. 2) How does this prove LATINOS have enemies, as Rep Wiener doesn’t seem the Hispanic sort to me…or the Tides Foundation, a haven of Latino Culture. And anyway, how does this prove, Latinos, as a group, have enemies? Please go on, I’m waiting. Because someone threw a rock at a Latino’s office, ALL Latino’s have an enemy, really you can go with that “logic?” I’m toying with you Garage, I KNOW you’ll go with that “logic because it’s all you’ve got. Because, in America, groups don’t HAVE enemies…sure if this was Germany c. 1933 you could say that the NSDAP was the enemy of Jews, but as this isn’t Germany c. 1933, please explain how Latino’s have enemies? I know you can’t or you wouldn’t be using those silly examples.
I DVR’d “The Walking Dead.” Zombies give me the creeps, not sure if I want to watch it. PLUS, the fact that the hero uses the non-existent belly hatch on the M-1 to escape from Zombies bothers the fan-boi in me…I’ve got to work up the nerve to watch the first episode. Again I cannot believe zombies take out M-1 tanks…
The Solar Flare thing is bothersome…it did cause black-outs in the 1980’s didn’t it?
1) But they AREN’T death threats and rocks, these were INDIVIDUAL actions, unless you are claiming that people REPEATEDLY got white powder and rocks. See Garage, 10 things happening, once isn’t REPEATED, it’s ten individual things.
Instead of just saying "yea that's whacked out", you actually try to convince yourself that a rock isn't a rock. What a fruitcake you are.
It's not an M-1 to begin with. It's only made up to be one. Just from memory, and having been around both quite a bit, I believe it was an M60. I noticed the round edges on the turret when he first got up to it.
They didn't take it out. It was dead (no pun intended) when he got to it. Out of gas, etc. The whole sequence is pretty cool and if you look close, they have the Atlanta street signs in the shot.
Boehner crushed; Mitch McConnell gasping for breath -- the Obama steamroller just goes on and on.
Try a political test for which car dealers got to keep their dealerships and which didn't. Plus sic'ing the IRS on political foes, and, now, we see that the civil rights and voting rights laws are being applied on a partisan and racial basis by the DoJ.
Of course, a lot of this sounds more like Chicago politics than merely revenge.
Instead of just saying "yea that's whacked out", you actually try to convince yourself that a rock isn't a rock. What a fruitcake you are.
If you could provide proof that those incidents weren't false flag operations, then you MIGHT have a point.
But we've seen over and over again (Columbia professors hanging nooses on their own doors, Democrats vandalizing their own offices, etc.), that the Left is perfectly willing to commit violence so that they can blame on their opponents.
If there wasn't an ACTUAL history of Leftists openly advocating and executing such false flag operations, then perhaps such incidences can be taken seriously.
But you guys have been wearing wolfskins and crying "WOLF!" for far too long to take any of it with anything BUT a colossal grain of salt.
Perhaps you should speak to your compatriots about their Alinsky-tactics backfiring. That seems to be the real source of your problem.
Well, insurance people and investment advisors are parasites -- skimming the fruits of the sweat of one's brow to mix a metaphor.
I was tweaking investment advisor dbq there -- pulling her leg as it were.
Obama is saying "We are going to punish our enemies..." Meaning himself and all the other people to which he refers.
Ya got me. Obama identifies with Latinos 100%. He thinks he is Latino. You can tell by the serape and huaraches he wears, the pupusas, platanos and yuca frita he favors for lunch, and the bottle of Malta forever tipped to his lips.
On the bright side: At least if Obama identifies as Latino he's unlikely to identify as Muslim -- no Muslim Latinos that I know of.
I am SO DAMNED BORED with this zombie apocalypse thing. Forty-odd years ago George Romero took up this very limited genre and proceeded to beat the living shit out of it over the course of a three decades worth of repetitive and formulaic movies.
Now after an all too brief cultural pause this garbage is back with a vengeance. The absolutely abysmal affluence that passes for popular cultural in this country sometimes make me wonder whether Bin Ladin has a valid point.
wv: frockus - what seminary students say in unison.
Now after an all too brief cultural pause this garbage is back with a vengeance. The absolutely abysmal affluence that passes for popular cultural in this country sometimes make me wonder whether Bin Ladin has a valid point.
Your mistake is to think that because a sub-culture you despise is very visible to you, that means everyone subscribes to that sub-culture. Stop stereotyping 320 million Americans. Some of us prefer Kubrick, Bach and Merlot.
and proceeded to beat the living shit out of it...
Did he beat it to death? Did it get up and walk afterward? I could care less about the actual zombie aspect of it. These days, it's less about the gore and far more about the collapse of society stories.
Now after an all too brief cultural pause this garbage is back with a vengeance. The absolutely abysmal affluence that passes for popular cultural in this country sometimes make me wonder whether Bin Ladin has a valid point.
So, then... this would probably be a really bad time to bring up my idea for an all-singing, all-dancing zombie romantic musical called Eat, Prey, Love, right...?
Now after an all too brief cultural pause this garbage is back with a vengeance.
You know why? Cause there are a whole bunch of folks who want more gratuitous zombie killing and less metrosexual vampire movies whose sole appeal seems to lie with 13 year old girls and their 40+ year old moms.
Do you make the mistake that I can enjoy Kubrick, Bach, and Merlot as well as apocalyptic fiction?
No, I partake of apocalyptic fiction a-plenty(zombies do rock). I just don't obsess about it or cast aspersions on the entire population of a country because of it.
Cause there are a whole bunch of folks who want more gratuitous zombie killing and less metrosexual vampire movies whose sole appeal seems to lie with 13 year old girls and their 40+ year old moms.
As yourself why Twilight films offend you so much. Ask yourself why you obsess about teenagers and their 40+ year old moms.
How did you get the idea that I'm stereotyping all 320 million Americans when I bemoan the state of our culture?
Do you deny that the zombie apocalypse meme is a prominent part of that culture? If you have any doubts check out some recent fiction best seller lists.
I too prefer Bach, though I sometimes have my doubts about Kubrick and I'd much rather have a glass of Chambertin if I can get it.
Joe...The Nixon I remember is the Nixon who stopped the military draft and withdrew the American Troops from Viet Nam in honor. The EPA was a great instrument to clean up the rivers and streams ,was needed and worked. Opening our diplomatic relations with Red China was a master stroke in the cold war. Of course he did try wage and price controls and that flopped. The subsequent Enviros use of EPA powers to punish rational American projects was not a known idiocy at the time, and Congress is in charge anyway. What did Tricky Dick get wrong anyway?
"Ask yourself why you obsess about teenagers and their 40+ year old moms."
That might explain some of the fascination with Sarah Palin. Certain people who blog for the Atlantic Monthly were obsessed with the fertility of both Sarah and Bristol since they appeared on the national scene.
Neither zombie apocalyspe films (including, God help us, a full on TV series)nor metrosexual vampire flicks offend me in the typical sense of that over-used formula.
However, they do bore me beyond endurance. And they do offend my aesthetic sensibilities.
Scott M...I mean what did tricky Dick get wrong on policy and leadership issues. Sure he became paranoid, and he proved many times over that paranoid people have very real enemies. The Verona KGB translations came out after Nixon died in 1994, butthey proved that Nixon had been fighting real enemies all along for 50 years.
The "Latino" tag is clearly an invention of the left who adopted fake Spanish accents to pronounce the names of the heroic revolutionaries and their countries and cities of origin. NPR is the mother ship of this thinking/pronouncing. Listen to them say the word "Sandinista", listen to them pronounce "Nicaragua". The great losing revolutions of the 70s and 80s were occurring at the time that real actual Mexicans were being exploited by being paid to do stoop labor in the fields of California. They used a tool that a few called the Mano de Diablo or hand of the devil. Easy for a gringo to pronounce but splendid in its encapsulation of the evil of stoop labor and the horror of the laborers being paid less than bankers. A non Spanish speaking gringo could then string together a number of Spanish words in a Spanish accent and presto have real true solidarity with actual revolutionaries. Well not revolutionaries but stoop laborers who wanted to make a few bucks to send to their families in Sinaloa. And thus began the use of the despicable term "Latino." A neat catch phrase that included the poor and downtrodden of countries and states and towns that did not lend themselves to easy pronunciation by non Spanish speaking sympathizers. The people of El Salvador do not think of themselves as Latinos. The people of Guatemala do not think of themselves as Latinos. Etc. It is a lefty way to herd a bunch of people under a single voting block using the same destructive language and methods as were used to consolidate African Americans as a lock step unit of the democratic party.
The lefties do not care about Verona, they do not care about the horrors of communism. Lefties have no enemies to their left. Think about that. That is largely the reason why they conflate conservatism with repressive far right regimes. I believe it consoles their vestigial consciences.
FLS does not understand the difference between "opponents" (who are also fellow citizens - or in the case of many in Obama's audience - who are simply citizens, unlike the audience) and "enemies". Obama thinks that Conservatives and others who disagree with him are "enemies" - so he assumes that his Latino listeners feel the same way - but Achmed Ammadinnajacket is just a slightly whacky guy who needs more loving and then we can be friends!
...every Mexican American I know hates the terms "Latino" and "Hispanic". Maybe it's a regional thing.
I think so.
In Texas people of Mexican descent call themselves Latino/Latina. I've never been comfortable with that and call them Hispanic and they seem comfortable with that. And being Catholic and in Texas I spend time with a lot of Hispanic folks.
When I lived in Florida I was surprised by how divided the Hispanic community was. Puerto Ricans separate from Cubans separate from Mexicans.
It's true. Ask any other Latino and they will all tell you that they hate the Puerto Ricans.
I going to have to call BS on that one. In fact it is the Mexicans that all other Latinos hate. Ask the Colombians, the Panamanians, Costa Ricans, etc. I've heard it from all of them.

1 – 200 of 229 Newer› Newest»People hear echoes of Richard Nixon and his notorious "enemies" list.
Very telling -- if not damning, outright -- that the only "enemies" Obama ever seems capable of discerning are dissenting U.S. citizens.
Going back to review the Dems panty-twisting after Palin's "reload" comment is especially funny nowadays.
And yet, I still can't predict with accuracy if he'll be a two-termer.
"We're gonna punish our enemies..."
But those fellow citizens who want to punish us in return - for treating them as "enemies" - are extremists!
How nonsensically evil can you get?
Obama is like Nixon.
Ouch.
That's gonna leave a mark.
What kent said. Why do politicians and bloggers lose track that the people they criticize are fellow citizens?
Is he Nixonish with the press now?
What kent said. Why do politicians and bloggers lose track that the people they criticize are fellow citizens?
Perhaps its because politicians view us as subjects rather than citizens.
If punishing our enemies is the way to go, bring it. I'm game. The first round of punishment starts tomorrow. I hope Barry and Co. have a good appetite for it.
@deborah, just with Fox News, and probably Reason TV.
“If Latinos sit out the election instead of saying, ‘We’re gonna punish our enemies, and we’re gonna reward our friends who stand with us on issues that are important to us’
Kent won the thread on entry 1
Oh yeah FLS, that's much better. Obama is inciting racial hatred and warfare.
Except he didn't say that. What Obama did say is that that Latinos should reward their friends and punish their enemies.
Oh. So he's just attempting to incite a race war.
So I guess that's alright, then.
(The Crypto Jew)
“If Latinos sit out the election instead of saying, ‘We’re gonna punish our enemies, and we’re gonna reward our friends who stand with us on issues that are important to us’
Parsing words, eh FLS? Obama wants Latinos to vote for HIS party, and punish THEIR enemies…so I’d say that Obama identifies with Latinos, and other People of Colour, and shares their enemies list….
I think the professor should start calling her own fouls. Quoted at her link:
Are suggesting Althouse or the GOP would misrepresent something about Obama?
Nixon was intellectual capable of the kitchen debate.
Obama would have agreed, and there would have been no debate about it.
Many scoffed[myself included] when McCain said during the 2008 campaign that Obama was @ his core, a Chicago pol. Few are doubting that now.
How is conservatism anti-Latino? Explain it without being racist.
Epic fail.
When most Latinos are talking about the enemy they are talking about Puerto Ricans.
FLS: I disagree that Latinos should feed the mouths that bite them.
Now FLS is race baiting. Obama is easily the most racially divisive president in recent memory. As your true colors finally show, the American people are rejecting the left's hatred and bile.
"There is not a black America and a white America and Latino America and Asian America -- there's the United States of America."
-- Barack Obama, 2004
"If Latinos sit out the election instead of saying, ‘We’re gonna punish our enemies [...]'"
-- Barack Obama, 2010
FLS,
You do put the Obama quote in the proper context. He was telling Latinos to punish their enemies. And that makes him look even worse. Is it really a good idea for the President to be telling Americans that other Americans are their "enemies" and they should punish them? Yeah, that is some real hope and change for you.
Obama gets more repulsive by the week.
Completely OT:
How is conservatism anti-Latino?
Who said it was?
Obama suggested not voting for people on the wrong side of issues important to Latinos. If the shoe doesn't fit, don't wear it.
It's true. Ask any other Latino and they will all tell you that they hate the Puerto Ricans.
I admit it is hard to figure but it true.
I blame J-Lo.
Now I must ask if DADvocate is dishonest or merely stupid. Obama was not talking about his enemies, but the enemies of Latinos.
The Washington Post quote I found corresponds with the quote Althouse linked to:
"If Latinos sit out the election instead of saying, 'We're gonna punish our enemies and we're gonna reward our friends who stand with us on issues that are important to us,' if they don't see that kind of upsurge in voting in this election, then I think it's gonna be harder," Obama said.
http://tinyurl.com/37pgltx
Obama was not talking about his enemies, but the enemies of Latinos.
Who would those be specifically?
January 16, 2009
I got a request here from a major American print publication.
He promised us he would have universal principles. What happened to that?
Crowley incident showed his true character: bizarrely one-sided, venomous, and hell-bent on revenge. Drag Me To Hell, Part II.
(The Crypto Jew)
Everybody has enemies, as the President knows only too well.
Funny the enemies that need punishing are his fellow citizens, though?
Everybody has enemies, as the President knows only too well [...] "I got a request here from a major American print publication."
Absolute, inarguable truth of posting at #1, above, duly proven.
"Funny the enemies that need punishing are his fellow citizens, though?"
Why? Did you think it was the Muslim terrorists?
Haven't you been paying attention?
Absolute, inarguable truth of posting at #1, above, duly proven.
Limbaugh announces himself to be Obama's implacable foe, which proves that Obama's only enemies are talk radio hosts?
(The Crypto Jew)
Why? Did you think it was the Muslim terrorists?
Haven't you been paying attention?
Rhetorical question……Big Sis already revealed who the Administration’s “enemies” were, very early on…Obama is just letting the mask drop. FLS just doesn’t like seeing it, it’s too damaging to his/her psyche I guess.
Not to defend Nixon, but he had specific individuals as enemies. B. Hussein has more than half the US population as enemies.
The worrisome thing about the Obama Administration is that they really do seem to be using the powers of the Presidency to reward friends and destroy enemies.
Boehner crushed; Mitch McConnell gasping for breath -- the Obama steamroller just goes on and on.
Limbaugh announces himself to be Obama's implacable foe, which proves that Obama's only enemies are talk radio hosts?
Is there something in your DNA that goes from one person being an enemy to another all the way to inclusion of the entire group?
Obama knows the true enemy is the small businessman. You know like all those Latinos that own bodega's and stuff.
You know in New York City there is a move to let bodega owners get a licensed gun after another Latino owner was murdered last week just like his brother was murdered ten years ago.
I wonder what the President's position on that is?
Obama's dislikes seem impulsive and not especially well thought out.
What part of "the Cambridge police acted stupidly" didn't you understand?
Is there something in your DNA that goes from one person being an enemy to another all the way to inclusion of the entire group?
Beat me to it. ;)
(The Crypto Jew)
I can't follow the kentian logic -- I was asking him to throw me a lifeline.
Troop -- Heller and McDonald are settled law -- what's keeping the NYC City Council from letting the citizenry have handguns?
fls, I think there's a difference between "political opponent" and "enemy".
At least there is for me.
Obama hasn't yet reached the stage where I'd consider him an enemy. His plans for re-education camps and forcible conscription in the Americorps brownshirts were publicized too soon and he had to scrap them; otherwise I might consider him an enemy.
(The Crypto Jew)
If you don't think Latinos have enemies you haven't been paying attention. Ask Rep. Raul Grijalva
So this PROVES, Latinos have “enemies?” Looks to me like GRIJALVA has enemies…but I didn’t realize one Latino was ALL Latino’s…I guess they are when they vote the right way, though? I mean if it happened to Marco Rubio or some other self-hating Latino/a it wouldn’t mean anything larger, right?
Garage, how do you throw a "refried bean swastika"?
And what does the swastika have to do with "latinos"? Didn't Hitler court Mexico and try to forge an alliance with them?
If you don't think latinos have enemies you haven't been paying attention.
Do whites have enemies, Garage? Are they in office (elected or otherwise)? Do blacks? Are they in office (elected or otherwise)?
Aside from both sets of questions, do you believe it's appropriate for the POTUS to be talking about these kinds of things when trying to gin up votes?
Wasn't thrown, it was smeared on the capitol window.
So if you're opposed to illegal immigration you're an enemy to Latinos.
Is that it?
If we simply extend a waiver to all Latinos of all legal requirements to live and work in the US does that mean we can be friends again?
(The Crypto Jew)
Garage, how do you throw a "refried bean swastika"?
The consistency has to be JUST right? I recommend a large flat launching surface and a smooth delivery….not that I am an expert on throwing refried swastika’s.
By the way -- most "Latinos" I know would bop you in the nose for lumping them in with other "Latinos".
There are Mexican Americans, and Puerto Rican Americans, and Dominican Americans, and so on. And the Mexican Americans prefer to be called "Mexican American", or just "American". I've never known anyone that called themselves "Latino".
From the Politico story:
House Republican Leader John Boehner plans to hammer President Obama during an election-eve rally on Monday night, for his use of the word “enemies” during an interview with Univision radio that got huge play in the conservative blogosphere.
And that’s why I think it’s so important that people focus on voting on November 2nd.”
Uh- wait, that doesn't sound so bad.
Thanks, Ann!
garage, how did they know it was frijoles? Did someone taste the swastika?
So either he's creating an enemies' list or inciting a race war. This is not a win-win for Obama. FLS - apologize to the professor for your mendaciousness.
BTW, have you noticed the last week a new meme is appearing among the lefty commentariat in here. They are trying to tar Althouse as a right-wing, mendacious extremist who should be shunned by all correct thinkers. They have some gall to say this to the hostess.
The left wing are liars and rude. This is bloodsport after all right? You couldn't possibly be NICE to our hostess?
I can't follow the kentian logic
FLS
Come on, really? Holding a nation radio personality to the same standard as the President? Do you really want to open that can of worms?
FLS - those fucking dirty Cubans right?
fls, if quoting Webster makes you feel better about your boyfriend's embarrassing lack of political instincts, and his inability to hide his hatred for his fellow Americans, then good for you.
Again, a political opponent is not the same as an enemy. Not yet, anyway.
Holding a nation radio personality to the same standard as the President?
Huh? Go back in the corner with Kent. What I said:
1. Even the President has enemies.
2. His enemies let him know who they are.
fls -- I don't know any Cubans, but every Mexican American I know hates the terms "Latino" and "Hispanic". Maybe it's a regional thing.
his inability to hide his hatred for his fellow Americans
Who does the President hate, in your estimation?
FLS - remember "bitter clingers"? Obv Obama's hatred is not just reserved for Republican leaders.
re: Race War
Just to be clear - Obama is telling Latinos to punish their enemies by voting.
Clearly the man is a monster.
Pretty much anyone who disagrees with him. Anyone whose even been paying lackluster attention can see that.
Huh? Go back in the corner with Kent.
Openly confesses an inability to grok even simple, straightforward declarative sentences... and thinks others have (somehow) been relegated to "the corner."
Heh.
There shouldn't be any surprise at Obama's remark. It's Chicago politics, writ on a national scale.
Side note: Whoa! An ad for Jenna Jameson on the Althouse blog.
Openly confesses an inability to grok even simple, straightforward declarative sentences...
"The moon is made of green cheese" -- sample of a simple straightforward declarative sentence that I cannot grok.
Anyone whose even been paying lackluster attention can see that.
Lackluster attention to what? Sean Hannity?
"Latinos" refers to people who came here from Latin America, and to a lesser extent, to their descendants
My Aunt is from Argentina. The family is of Northern Italian heritage.
Is my Aunt a Latina?
What is this compulsion of the so called liberals to group people into ethnic and racial categories and then try to pit the groups against each other?
Hispanic men! Hispanic women! The Republican is using the Anglo as muscle against you!
What is this compulsion of the so called liberals to group people into ethnic and racial categories and then try to pit the groups against each other?
Scamming the Fed for money.
Fls it is almost impossible for a law abiding store owner to get a hand gun license. I know because I have tried and it was impossible.
The City Council whould have to make an exception but they won't. Law abiding small businessmen who want to protect their stores are not someone they care about.
Who does the President hate, in your estimation?
So far it seems to be pretty much everyone. Doctors who cruelly rip out tonsils and hack off feet for money, small business people, Chamber of Commerce members, Insurance people, investement advisors, bankers, all of Wall Street, boy scouts, white policemen, religious people from the middle of the country, NRA members, talk show hosts, Fox News people, all Republicans.....it is a pretty extensive list.
I don't think Obama likes anyone except for maybe his children.
Not true DBQ. He loves those there Iranians. Wouldn't say a cross word to any of them.
He's a weak pussy! And he's a thug!
@12:05 p.m. Garage mahal dissembled:
"Wasn't thrown, it was smeared on the capitol window."
Really? Which capitol building?
What is this compulsion of the so called liberals to group people into ethnic and racial categories and then try to pit the groups against each other?
I think in this context "Latinos" were "people who listen to Univision radio." There's a certain amount of ethnic self-identification going on here -- i don't think Obama invented the concept.
But I'm intrigued with the concept that, absent the liberals, Latinos would have no enemies.
(The Crypto Jew)
LOL...perhaps Garage Mahal thinks Grijalva serves in the Arizona legislature.
Obviously Ann was alive during the Nixon time (I know she was but a comment like that seems to argue against it).
Nixon "enemies" were personal enemies...people who he was out to get because they were out to get him.
Obama makes a clear difference between his personal detractors and those who are true enemies of modification and reform.
(The Crypto Jew)
It's so simple. Point A to Point B.
Why make it so complicated?
Troop, try again now that the Supreme Court recognizes the Second Amendment.

“If Latinos sit out the election instead of saying, ‘We’re gonna punish our enemies, and we’re gonna reward our friends who stand with us on issues that are important to us’
____________________________
This argument is flat out wrong. The assertion that Republicans are Latinos' enemies and Democrats are their friends is Obama's. The fact that he placed this assertion is someone else's voice is irrelevant.
The fact that FLS has to distort his own thinking to identify this as an Althouse "foul" is an indictment both of his criticism and his thinking process.
Well the Latino's kind of hate the Cucarachas. That's why they wear those pointy shoes...so they can kill them in the corners. Just sayn'
"true enemies of modification and reform. "

What do you do for a living, and please explain why YOU aren’t a parasite?
and the police DO think it was friends of grivalja since they also wrote AZ=NAZI in frijole.
Game point: Comrade X.
Ann, how is it you can so woefully misattribute what Obama said and yet still be tenured?
End times must truly be near if there's a refried bean swastika epidemic afoot. Yikes.
Echoes of Nixon's Enemies List?
That's funny - for some reason I'm not seeing any actual individuals' names in the quote. Do I need special glasses,a decoder-ring or a magical rock in order to see them?
"PAY NO ATTENTION TO THE CURRENT WORLD HISTORY BEHIND THE CURTAIN! YOU MUST FOCUS ONLY ON THE SIDESHOWS IN YOUR OWN COUNTRY! KEEP ALL DOORS LOCKED & ALL TELEVISIONS ON AT ALL TIMES!"
those who are true enemies of modification and reform.
This five year plan will be the one that actually, finally SUCCEEDS, dammit -- !!!
so much fail. grivalja's office wsan't smeared with refried swastikas, the state capitol was, and the police DO think it was friends of grivalja since they also wrote AZ=NAZI in frijole.
(The Crypto Jew)
Garage would you care to discuss the “fun” at the various G-20 and IMF meetings? Mayhap you’d just like to slink back off, as much of the stuff you wrote about has almost NO connection to Rightwing actions, but the stuff I just mentioned is very much Leftwing violence…
Joe
I'm sure these are Alinsky plants.
"Today, sadly, we have a president who uses the word 'enemy' for fellow Americans -- fellow citizens. He uses it for people who disagree with his agenda of bigger government -- people speaking out for a smaller, more accountable government [...]."
Possibly this is just building-block-simple enough for the studiedly (and insincerely) oblivious few hereabouts to parse, unaided.
Possibly.
Ask Rep. Raul Grijalva whose office has been literally attacked twice, with refried bean swastikas and rocks thrown through windows.
I didn't say Grivalja office was smeared with a frijole swastika
technically, you're right. you didn't say it, you literally wrote it.
(The Crypto Jew)
Obfuscation Garage ? Nice try I guess you just don’t want to own up to the fact that your side commits REAL, large-scale violence, and whilst much of what you quoted, no doubt breathlessly, can’t even be laid at the feet of any particular cause? Who sent white powder who threw bricks, you want us to BELIEVE, that it HAD to be right-wingers, when I can certainly see it is LEFTWINGERS that trashed Seattle.
Obfuscation Garage ?
Ah no. Just pointing out real evidence of people having enemies. Why would you assume right wingers did it?
(The Crypto Jew)
I didn’t assume it, you did.
No I didn't. Where?
(The Crypto Jew)
No I didn't. Where?
I notice you only use examples of Leftwing victims. It gives one pause…so on with the question how does it “prove’ Latinos have enemies? Please demonstrate this proposition.
"former law student said...

FYI, Mark Levin's been calling him Barack Milhouse Obama since forever.
Full disclosure...I liked Nixon and was proud of his accomplishments. Obama, not so much.
Mark Levin
DADvocate,
What does it mean when 2nd amendment activists warn of government agents showing up on your door saying "We are here for your guns".
It gives one pause…so on with the question how does it “prove’ Latinos have enemies?
I would say repeated death threats and rocks through your office proves you have enemies. What else would you call it?
"how did they know it was frijoles? Did someone taste the swastika?
Oh man, you wouldn't want to be wrong about that one: "Nope, not beans." Nuff said.
Whoever these "enemies" are, they're people Obama thinks they can strike back against by voting. That narrows it down a bit.
What does it mean when 2nd amendment activists warn of government agents showing up on your door saying "We are here for your guns".
It means you should have purchased your equipment and had a shed or garage "fire" years ago.
(The Crypto Jew)

Because someone threw a rock at a Latino’s office, ALL Latino’s have an enemy, really you can go with that “logic?”
I’m toying with you Garage, I KNOW you’ll go with that “logic because it’s all you’ve got.
Libtard: those who are true enemies of modification and reform.
Look at the little fascist go!
Ah it seem's so long ago.
Barack, we hardly knew ya
(The Crypto Jew)
I DVR’d “The Walking Dead.” Zombies give me the creeps, not sure if I want to watch it. PLUS, the fact that the hero uses the non-existent belly hatch on the M-1 to escape from Zombies bothers the fan-boi in me…I’ve got to work up the nerve to watch the first episode. Again I cannot believe zombies take out M-1 tanks…
The Solar Flare thing is bothersome…it did cause black-outs in the 1980’s didn’t it?
Look at the little fascist go!
Adorable, huh? Sort of like the slow, self-satisfied end result of a shotgun three-way between Nancy Pelosi, Increase Mather and Stalin.
"FYI, Mark Levin's been calling him Barack Milhouse Obama since forever."
I thought that was referring to the Simpsons' Milhouse. "My mom says I'm cool."
Obama, what is best in life?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kkSFIWzi7aA&feature=related
Oh yeah kudos to Obama. He hates whole classes of people unlike Nixon who had a short list of names.
As far as the EMP alternative to the zombie apocalypse, how does a Carrington solar event grab you?
Total societal breakdown in the urban centers within 48-72 hours.
Total societal breakdown in the urban centers within 48-72 hours.
Less. If you live in an apartment building, there's no way to get water up without juice.
What's hilarious is I believe that is how you actually think.
Nixon was smarter and better looking.
and proceeded to beat the living shit out of it...
Did he beat it to death? Did it get up and walk afterward? I could care less about the actual zombie aspect of it. These days, it's less about the gore and far more about the collapse of society stories.
What does it mean when 2nd amendment activists warn of government agents showing up on your door saying "We are here for your guns".
You should use a question mark and not a period for interogatory statements.
Your question stupid and off the subject.
Some of us prefer Kubrick, Bach and Merlot.
Do you make the mistake that I can enjoy Kubrick, Bach, and Merlot as well as apocalyptic fiction?
"Ask yourself why you obsess about teenagers and their 40+ year old moms."
Well I know why I do, but I say those comments for the Penthouse forum. Just sayn'
Ask yourself why you obsess about teenagers and their 40+ year old moms.
A.) You say that as if it were some sort of bad thing.
B.) Some "40+ year old moms" are hotter than others.
What did Tricky Dick get wrong anyway?
Farming out an ill-conceived break-in? Letting Frost get the better of him? Letting his jowls get nigh upon rooster length?
and I'd much rather have a glass of Chambertin if I can get it
Gimmie Riesling or gimmie beer.
No Muslim Latinos that I know of...
Jose Padilla would beg to differ
Neither zombie apocalyspe films (including, God help us, a full on TV series)nor metrosexual vampire flicks offend me in the typical sense of that over-used formula.
However, they do bore me beyond endurance. And they do offend my aesthetic sensibilities.
wv: butzate - asskicking French-style
Scott M...I mean what did tricky Dick get wrong on policy and leadership issues. Sure he became paranoid, and he proved many times over that paranoid people have very real enemies. The Verona KGB translations came out after Nixon died in 1994, butthey proved that Nixon had been fighting real enemies all along for 50 years.
Jose Padilla would beg to differ
OK, "Only one Muslim Latino that I know of"
Obama is sounding more like Hugo Chavez than Nixon when he says lets go out and punish the enemy.
However, they do bore me beyond endurance. And they do offend my aesthetic sensibilities.
Then don't pay attention. Nobody is forcing you to watch commercials for that stuff. Go crack open a science book or something.
OK, "Only one Muslim Latino that I know of"
LADO would like a word with you.
...as would tens of thousands of Americans...
Looks like the Dems are the one getting the punishin. But we will see how bad tomorrow.
But we will see how bad tomorrow.
If we have less than a half-dozen law suits about the vote count around the country, I'll be surprised, regardless of the side that's complaining.
The Verona KGB translations came out after Nixon died in 1994, butthey proved that Nixon had been fighting real enemies all along for 50 years.
"Venona."
I am telling you it is J-Lo's fault.
