The last football Saturday of the year.

If you've got something to say about it, say it here.

ADDED: And now, it's on to the Rose Bowl. But first... pick up that trash:

"Boise State Loss Brings Clarity to B.C.S. Race":

"If Auburn, 12-0 and No. 2 in the B.C.S. standings, wins the Southeastern Conference championship next Saturday and No. 1 Oregon wins at rival Oregon State, they will play for the national title Jan. 10 in Glendale, Ariz. If one of those teams falters, unbeaten Texas Christian, No. 3 in the B.C.S. standings, would be next in line for the national title game, unless it loses Saturday to hapless New Mexico, a 40-point underdog. The biggest beneficiary of Boise State’s loss in Reno could be Stanford, No. 6 in the B.C.S. Since Oregon (11-0) seems destined for an appearance in the national title game, the Cardinal could well secure a slot in the Rose Bowl. What would be fascinating for the B.C.S. is a doomsday chain of events. What would happen if South Carolina upset Auburn and Oregon State beat Oregon? It is impossible to say for certain, other than T.C.U. filling one of the slots. Perhaps Oregon would retain the other spot, since it beat Stanford impressively earlier in the season after falling behind by 21-3."

Yeah, you're right. The place was thronging with Ohio State fans.

I was watching this nature show the other day where this dude had a couple of pet wolverines. He had rasied them from pups.

That was pretty impressive.

Wolverines are known for being just about the nastiest, meanest most destructive animals you could find.

My alma mater had a season of streaks: they lost 5 in a row, then won 5 in a row. You don't see that every day!

I've got my Badger Sweater on and Cheese Wedge beer cozy at the ready. Go Big Red!!!

Professor, I think you're looking for a Hail Mary pass that puts Wisconsin in the championship game. Just focus on beating Northwestern. I went to that game last week in Wrigley. I grew up a Giants fan and watched many a game on tv from Wrigley. It was nostalgic. However, thanks to attorneys and fear of litigation, the game was bastardized w/ teams only using one end zone. I wonder what Ditka and Butkus thought about that horseshit?

Anyway...Northwestern is not a patsy. Wisconsin should beat them handily, but they're not Indiana. And...they got nothing to lose.

Not the last football of the year.

Illinois plays Fresno State next Friday night.

Mark it on your calendar.

Illini look to go 7-5 for the year.

What a bunch of inconsiderate slobs! Where are these kids coming from that they think it's OK to throw their trash all over the place like that?

What sort of thinking goes into an attitude that it's OK to do that?

Sheesh. I hope my daughter doesn't do that sort of thing when I'm not there.

Unknown said...

I was going to say something about how you could tell it was a bunch of Lefties that did that.

Well, I'm glad my last alma mater was U of Akron. They're a little more sane than the people from Columbus.

Thanks Ann. ESPN is saying it's now Wisconsin's turn. We shall see. I'm continually surprised not to hear more pro Badger lobbying to be included in the BCS. As a Bama fan, I am ... despondent is not the word and neither is heartbroken. That game yesterday was sick-making. There must be something that happens psychologically when a team is leading so big. I knew there was a lot of danger, especially after the Ingraham strip. Oh well. From sublime to sick. What will Saban do?

Go Badgers! Is there a conference championship game? Wouldn't this be the ideal time for one if not?

Outside a Badger maybe ;)

I never thought I would see a Wisconsin team run 29 straight times against Michigan. I don't think there is a defense in the country that can stop Wisconsin's offensive line and running game this year. Sometime around the 2nd quarter they impose their will on you and it is just over.

Meanwhile Jeter STILL hasn't signed the overly generous contract the old fading past star has been offered.

The same sort of thinking that celebrated the advent of the "Age of Obama." You didn't see that kind of behavior at Tea Party rallies.

Trooper York said...

Jeter deserves all the money he can squeeze out of the Yankees. It doesn't matter and he will sign for about four years at twenty one million per.

That's why I pay for six dollar hot dogs and eleven dollar beers.

He is worth every penny.

He is this era's Joe Dimaggio.

Clyde said...

@ Trooper York

Of course, DiMaggio was retired at age 37, which is how old Jeter will be next year. The idea of a four-year deal for a player that old is insane.

The Hokies beat the hated 'Hoos to finish the regular season without an ACC loss. People were talking a lot of nonsense about our chances before the season, but we did well to have this good a finish. Two more games to go.

My parents went to UM and I to MSU. We were common in our like for Wisconsin because it was so much like our schools.

We also have a common dislike of sorts for all things OSU.

On Wisconsin, I hope you win and to the Pasadena. If we (MSU) can't then I'm glad it is you.

.....Big Ten nostalgia.......

ps...my word verification is "prick"...no kidding. OSU/prick in one post. I am blessed.

Pigs! I would never leave trash like that, and would not frequent a place that looks like that.

It's not insane to pay Jeter. He deserves it. The Yankees make plenty of money and charge top dollar for everything. If George were alive it would be done already.

What do you think if they sign Jeter for less they will lower ticket prices?

Jeter deserves at least as much as Arod. No doubt about it.

Trooper York said...

All the people dissing Jeter wish he was on their team...or at least that he would have led them to as many world championships as he did the Yankees.

The loss by Boise State puts TCU into the Championship game, but for a last second win by Auburn lead by its new Professional Player from College park, Ga..The NCAA conveniently ignoring that fact for its members TV ratings bonanza is pathetic. There are now two Professional Leagues: the NFL and the NCAA.

HT said...

Yeah, traditionalguy, but then the rented mules COULD be doing a bit better for professionals, couldn't they? They are pros and they aren't. You gotta give em a little somethin somethin to lure them there, but it's never enough for what they're worth.

I guess you don't subscribe to the notion that they all do it. But I grant you, it's extremely awkward watching a team content that has a player who is very possibly in violation. Not very elegant. But hey, that's Auburn!

HT said...

Ok, Wisconsin. Settle down.

Play with class, now.

Let's go Red! Hopefully, they out-pace OSU in the BCS

JAL said... Why do people who are well educated leave their trash on the ground?

Because moral character isn't formed in the classroom. When you send a pig to college, the best result you can get is a well-educated pig.

Northwestern punted 4th and 5, down 47 pts, from their 40 yrd line with around 12:00 something left. That to me was when Bielema gave the Mercy Order. Meaning that's when Northwestern told Wisconsin they "give". Bielema won't call off the dogs until he sees that.

So some guy from that place by the lake called me up and goes, "Yo, Chip. We'll give you 100 bucks if you come up here and clean the place up." And I'm all, "No way." And he goes, "Okay then, we'll make it 125 bucks." And I go Okay." And he goes, "Will you decorate the place too?" And I go, "That'll be another 5 bucks."

"Wolverines are known for being just about the nastiest, meanest most destructive animals you could find."

Hiking this summer I met someone who had a friend who was attacked by a Wolverine. He barely had time to grab and activate his bear mace.

It's good to know that this spray is effective against Wolverines. And, I'm sure that it'd also deter a bear. Although, the noise from a pistol may not work. On another trail this summer I met someone who found that the sound of a GLOCK wasn't enough to scare a group of bears. Strangely, his wife blowing a bear whistle did sent them packing. Ha.

I'm sorry to see that the BCS (probably) wasn't thrown into chaos. A real tournament would be better for a lot of people and worse for only a few people. But those few are making a lot of money now and hanging on for dear life.

It was always silly to say that, say, Boise State "deserved" to be in two team tournament. It was never obvious that they were better than the teams in the ACC (having a very bad year as a conference). Undefeated, they deserve to be in an eight team tournament. Heck, they deserve to be in a sixteen team tournament now. But we're going to have to pry the tournament from the cold, dead, hands of the BCS bowls and the college ADs and presidents they bribe.

I agree.. Jeter almost lost an eye going after a foul ball.

In all the times I've seen him play, I've never seen Jeter give any less than 100%

I've seen him play hurt.. there are not many players today you can say that about.

traditionalguy said...

Steve Spurrier's team can beat anybody...or else Steve will let them have it. He is a driven man and he wants driven players...so he drives them. Auburn hasn't won this thing yet.The big game in Atlanta will decide this. Then what can the NCAAA do? TCU will do what they say can't be done.

kjbe said...

Man, this thing needs to end after 3 quarters. It would be the humane thing to do.

Come on, the Badgers made one pass play in the second half...and 6 NW turnovers? They could have scored 100,easy.

Loved the tip drill interception in the OSU/OU game. Thing. Of. Beauty.

You need a Tea Party to break out near those tables. Tea Partiers clean up after themselves, and would probably spruce up the tables, too.

For Trooper York and Lem -

Re; Jeter: I wasn't saying that the Yankees shouldn't resign him, only that a four-year deal like Trooper was talking about would be insane. When baseball players hit their late 30s, it isn't uncommon for their skills to deteriorate quickly. Last year was the worst of Jeter's career on offense, and while he won the Gold Glove, his range was well below league average. His .989 fielding percentage showed that he was good at catching the balls that he did get to. Will he rebound offensively in 2011? It's possible, but for guys his age who aren't on the Barry Bonds juicing plan, the trajectory at age 36/37 is usually downward.

Jeter is a sure-thing first ballot Hall of Famer, and the Yankees should bring him back for at least one more year, but he's at the stage of his career where he should have to prove every year that he's still worth the big money.

AllenS said...

Damn, Chip, that was funny.

Here's something of valueable historical importance:

In the 1999 Rose Bowl, Wisconsin upset UCLA. But, the stadium ran out of beer before halftime.

Go Badgers! On Wisconsin!

However, Ann's and my alma mater, the Michigan Wolverines got whupped on again, buy Ohio State, for the 7th consequtive year!!!!
We need a new coach in Ann Arbor.

Just remember, Badger fans, revenge is sweet. Things won't always be this good, and when they're not, don't expect any sympathy or sportsmanship.

Buckeyes win with class. It's a Tressel thing.

AllenS said...

rasta,

Badger fans know that. What sets us apart from everyone else, is that we'll still be Badger fans, even if we don't have that good of a season. It's happened before, and it will happen again. But right now, man, this is sweet.

Auburn's beaten South Carolina once this year. Though I can't believe I'm saying this, that must count for something if they happen to lose. Of course, Bama provided a great deal of clues on how to go about beating Auburn. People, Cam is not that fast. That little stutter step he's been doing when he starts his runs is going to be his downfall. If Auburn wins, then unofficially at least, given the week in week out schedule, they are national champs. Of course, for recruiting purposes, I do hope that should they win, Oregon whips them in the title game. In which case, I concede that they would be the best team in college football. But alas, there are so many fine teams this year, and seemingly Wisconsin is one of them. Though last night's matchup was less a game than a weird foggy over-long .... malfunctioning videogame. I don't know. It was very strange watching it.

kjbe said...

BTW, the Rose Bowl for the Badgers isn't a done deal. We won't know for sure, until the final BCS comes out next Sunday.
