FOUR SCORE AND SEVEN YEARS AGO... I DRANK YOUR MILKSHAKE!
Lessee now, a movie by Spielberg, master of the historical epic, based on Kearns Goodwin's Lincoln book, which was supposedly the basis for the Zero administration.
Gee, can't wait.
PS Have to agree with the commenter who said Liam Neeson would be a better choice.
Yea, that's pretty inspired casting.
I was introduced to a great movie today, called "Winter's Bone". It's shocking how such a good film can come out and hardly anyone will mention it, but let the latest lame installment of "Harry Potter" show up and it's the talk of the town. Do we really want to be culturally stupid and uninteresting?
I swear, in that way, we're a fucked up, ass-backwards culture.
Anyway, my inter-racial double-bill for this picture was with "City of God". I chose that one and it was funny:
My friend thought my choice was too intense (a kid got shot) and "Winter's Bone" made me tear up a little.
All in all, a great day watching movies.
It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open one's mouth and drink your milkshake.
Lindsey Lohan for Mary Todd Lincoln.
Danny DeVito for Sec of State Seward.
David Arquette for John Wilkes Booth.
And Christina Henricks as the Beaver.
Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom for Grant and Sherman.
PS Too far, Troop.
Tracy Morgan for Fredrick Douglas.
John C Rielly as Edwin Stanton.
As long as Brad Pitt plays R.E. Lee and Phillip Seymour Hoffman plays U.S. Grant - I'll go see it.
Charlie Sheen as JEB Stuart.
Titus as former President James Buchanan.
Helena Bonham Carter for Mary Todd Lincoln.
Spielberg just committed to Robopocalypse, but it looks like Lincoln will be shot first.
Kinda funny, said that way.
...the film is scheduled to be released during the 4th quarter of 2012 .
Rest assured, the shooting schedule will not slip. There is an important convergence that needs to take place.
Both my great points already made in the article's comments.
Oh well.
I hope the Abe Mary Todd sex scenes are tasteful.
AND ALSO FEATURING:
Joaquin Phoenix as Gideon Welles.
Clarence Thomas as Frederick Douglass.
Al Gore as Gen. George McClelland.
Johnny Depp as Nathan Bedford Forrest.
John Kerry as Himself.
Popcorn's Better When Reality's Sprinkled On It
Cher as Mary Todd Lincoln.
Seriously.
Daniel Day-Lewis was the star in a movie I called a violent war movie and my wife called a chick flick. His mixing those two together shows quite an acting range. Last of the Mohicans is that movie and it is well worth watching again.
...I don't give shit...Oregon State is leading the Trojans 20-0 at the half..what has happened to the world?...
I always thought Ted Cassidy, "Lurch" on The Addams Family, would have made a great Lincoln.
...sorry, i meant to say "a shit" in that previous post...
I am in talks with the studio about playing Buchanan but nothing is confirmed.
Troop please wait for the press release.
Who's going to play the fag that "slept" with LIncoln for many years.
What was that fag's name?
On my dad's dear hunting trips the guys sleep with each other. They are sleeping with each other right now in Ladysmith Wisconsin.
Is that wrong?
Go badgers!
How about an American actor?
Peter
Oh, but the film was written by Tony Kushner, a homosexual communist.
Titus, the guy's name was Joshua Fry Speed, but much of the writing on that subject is attributed to eisegesis.
I recommend Sean Penn for John Wilkes Booth. Sean's a fine actor, and it will emphasize the historical parallel of asshole actors trying to upstage the grand events of their time.
It would take prostheses, but Depp could totally do Lee.
And of course, you'd need John Malkovich for John Wilkes Booth.
Actually, William has a point.
I didn't know you could be a homo and a commie.
Interesting.
@crack
I saw Winter's Bone a few weeks ago because it was the only thing that didn't make me ill at redbox.
Really liked it - total surprise. Simple plot, but had me riveted.
Trooper York, he did that part already in shooting Wild Bill. What do you want young David to get type cast?
Crack: I saw Winter's Bone too. Fantastic film. If I'm not mistaken, there were many locals in the film. The young lady who played Ree was just phenomenal. It is based on a young adult novel by Daniel Woodrell.

Not impressed with Spielberg rendering of historical drama.

How 'bout Nick Albukerk playing Lincoln? Defense lawyer from Chicago........
Are you sure Daniel Day-Lewis isn't playing Lincoln in Robopocalypse? I mean, Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln at Disneyland was some creepy shit.
Just finished a movie called "My Left Foot" where Daniel Day-Lewis plays a man with cerebral palsy. Safe to say he really *becomes* the character he plays. He was also outstanding in "There Will Be Blood", which may have been the best movie of the 2000-2009 decade.
Or Tom Hank his descentant as Abe
It will be interesting to see how they finesse the fact that not just Lincoln but his entire cabinet were all Republicans. Perhaps Kushner can draw out how Lincoln was in the pockets of the railroads (the oil companies of the time) and the Civil War was just a way of eliminating southern opposition to the transcontinental railroad. After all, if he could make Ethel Rosenberg a saintly presence in Angels in America, he can make Linoln a diabolic schemer in this work.
I thought Winter's Bone was just okay. They couldn't throw the guy's dismembered limbs on the porch in the first place? Would have saved everyone a lot of trouble.
but it looks like Lincoln will be shot first.
"... and later, the Universe will explode for your viewing pleasure."
"What's in these drinks?" Zaphod breathed.
Or words to that effect. Verification word: "fauccula," which I gather is a tastefully fake vampire.
