By Any Means Necessary. It's hard to see this as anything other than a complete success for the left. It's amazing what you can accomplish when you have no principles or standards other than power.
Well the Republic of Texas still has a crack at him. If there is a God and he hasn't been bought off by Texas republicans perhaps there will be justice some day.
Just presenting the other side of the coin here folks...move along.
@HD, you're kind of piece of sh*t. You do know that, don't you?
With the exception of Beth, the impression I'm getting of liberals is that they can't compromise, won't negotiate in good faith, regard regulations as something to be circumvented.
You can only be surpressed. And you will be, unless you can grow up.
@methandras - Nah. No apologies from AL, HDH, etc. In fact, I predict they double down. After all, there's still hope with that out of control DA in Texas!
But it doesn't matter to them one way or another. Republican = criminal; no charges, no trial, no judgement. Pass all that and hang 'em from the nearest lamppost...
Accusing someone in politics on the basis of their having an association with someone else, and running repeated news stories imitating the latest report of a crime under investigatio is the Liberal /Progressive's favorite trick. The Taliban use stones and the Media/Democrat Industrial Slander Complex uses "Investigations".
Well as a Conservative Republcan, I think he's bad for having iniated the "K Street project" that made the Rupublican Congress an rm of Business, rather than a representative of the People or the Market...
Remember being "Pro-Business" is NOT the same thing as being "Pro-Market."
I didn't like Delay - I thought he represented the triumph of power over policy, and was a large part of where the GOP House went wrong. You may not like Newt Gingrich, and he could be a sonnafabitch, but he had ideals, policies and a program. Delay and his cohort were all about power and incumbency - and that led to a lot of excessive spending and waste, and from there the GOP's loss of moral authority on spending. I was not sorry to see him go as Speaker, but this whole investigation was nothing but a political hitjob.
I agree with Joe. When the Republicans swept into power in Congress after the 1994 elections after embracing the Contract with America, one of the first things that DeLay did was to make sure that the lobbying money that had been going to the Democrats for so long got redirected to Republicans. They now kept track of where the money went, and provided access based on that.
And, in the end, that was part of the alleged "Culture of Corruption" that helped bring the Democrats back to power - Tom DeLay trying to out-Democrat the Democrats when it came to the lobbying game.
Of course, as we have found out over the last couple of years, Republicans in Congress have never been, and likely never will be, as corrupt as the Democrats there, and, in particular, those with lifetime seats like Rangel and Waters in majority minority districts. And why are so many Democrats in Congress corrupt? I would suggest because power corrupts and they tend to stay in office much longer than Republicans, esp. at the top (note that some of the Democrats in leadership positions were in such when the Republicans beat them in 1994). But no one really expects the Democrats to be clean, as they have always been the big city machine party, where corruption has been part of their mode of operating at least since the late 19th Century.
Yes, DeLay got the money flowing to the Republicans, which was great in the short run, but in the end, that money, to some extent ended up harming the Republicans in Congress.
Delay and his cohort were all about power and incumbency - and that led to a lot of excessive spending and waste, and from there the GOP's loss of moral authority on spending. I was not sorry to see him go as Speaker,
DeLay was LBJ without a democratic media to run interference for him.

Innocent until proven guilty? Ah, who am I kidding. We're talking about HD here.
Those aren't crickets you butt head, that is dried crap rattling around in your brain.
Oh goody. I'm in for another HDFlopHouse treat of verbal excrement again. Listen, you living fossil, getting to watch your underarm meat-flaps generate the wind necessary to carry the stench of your rotting corpse as you flop your spindly little arm things around as a means to articulate that little bit of verbal diarrhea, is pleasure enough for me.
You see you human cunt-stain, it's the little things in life that generate the most happiness. Seeing you constantly end up on the wrong side of every argument is one of those little things. But I suppose at your upper echelon of the living dead spectrum, all you have left is little things.
wv = gericap = Not even that will get our resident crypt keeper to be right.
HD and company only see the Bill of Rights as applying to them. Anybody on the other side would get a quick trip to the wall if the Lefties thought people would stand for it.
ohmy he made a funny. wow. you are one clever little fella! what took you all day probably never entered anyone else's mind...
pow..boom...sails right by him.
What are you murmuring about again, you walking shit-bag? Damn, if it isn't getting to see you fuck something up here again, it's the APB that one of your caretakers has to put to find you wandering helplessly through someones freshly made compost pile. You know what that is for you right? Two rotten piles of ofal, except at the end of the degeneracy cycle no one will know how the dentures get there.
Try it. It's liberating, and for some, it could be a daily liberation.
Oh forget it. That's like asking the earth to stop rotating. The day HD assumes room temperature will be a good day indeed. Nothing says fresh, like watching a rotting leftard die off.

But it doesn't matter to them one way or another. Republican = criminal; no charges, no trial, no judgement. Pass all that and hang 'em from the nearest lamppost...
An apology of any kind from these types of miserable leftards is tentamount to saying, "I was wrong(ed)" and with this particular crew, that will never, ever, under any circumstances happen. It's not in them to do it or say it and in the face of proof undeniable you will be doubly excoriated for it. This is what leftardism does to a human being. It reduces them to the level of a zombie. Once the ideology is grafted, it becomes part of their genetic fabric. Some have been lucky enough to escape such a chrysalis, and I freely admit, that I was for a time, but for the most part, the siren's call of leftardism is to easy for these weak-minded fools. And that's what they really are, weak-minded. They will believe anything. ANYTHING!!!
Well, it takes a few years for the public to start to forget what a corrupt, incompetent criminal he was. Then it takes a few more years to find and develop a legal excuse for his unethical conduct, and to convince the rest of the political establishment to go along with it lest they be held to the same standard.
But this doesn't change the fact that he's still a corrupt crook who fed his own greed and ambition at the expense of the country, like most of the establishment people in Washington.
A long time ago - after he left the Reagan administration - James Watt was reported to have made something like $400,000 with a couple of phone calls, and the Media and the Democrats went into hyperventilating fits. The funny thing though, was that one got the feeling it was not so much about the money as such, but rather outrage that Watt was poaching on their Clark Clifford's turf.
Similarly, the frothing about DeLay and his K Street Project always has seemed to me to be mostly outrage that DeLay was going after their K Street contacts and diverting the loot to the Republican Party.
And Pelosi only said she was out to end the Republican "culture of corruption;" she never said she was against corruption as such, and in fact, her record seems to indicate that she is all for it, as long as it is for the Democrats' benefit!
I eagerly await the likes of hd, victoria and Dead Julius to speak against that crook.
Oh stop it. Charlie Rangel is a corrupt crook among corrupt crooks, and a master of creepy political patronage too.
Rangel is the epitome of the establishment. I've said in many comments to this here esteemed blog that the entire establishment must be destroyed. I'm totally down with starting with Rangel; he should be escorted from Washington by armed guards and permanently banished from any government building for the rest of his life. You could put him in prison too if you want, but being free and having to stay away from the public money trough would probably be a worse punishment for him.
And yes Rangel is more corrupt than DeLay. Rangel is the worst they come. His constituents have abdicated their moral responsibility by voting for him... but, eh, the nobles among them have gotten their personal payoffs.
Dead Julius, I appolgize for lumping you in with the other Obamabots. You have the intergity to denounce actual criminal activity by the likes of Charley Rangel.

DeLay certainly has a lot of grace for being shat upon from a great height.
Ignoring the Delay case in specific, cause I think he ws a pretty swarmy guy anyway, I was struck by this statement:
The Justice Department does not comment publicly on investigations where charges are not brought.
and a line from "Absence of Malice" that went something like:
And who do I see about getting my reputation back?
great movie about DoJ misconduct and it's collusion with the press to destroy people.
its, not it's
Thank you, Ann. I was going to link to this in response to Alpha/Montagne/Freder's fulminations.
Waiting for, "I'm glad he was found innocent", but not holding my breath.
If only he'd had cash in the freezer - now that'd made the whole thing easier...
Politics ain't beanbag. DeLay most of all knows all sides of that.
They'll NEVER admit they were wrong. They'll NEVER admit that they've been accusing the guy of being a criminal for years. They'll NEVER apologize.
Meanwhile, they WILL continue to defend: Rangel, Waters, Murtha, Jefferson, et al.
Oh yeah...and don't forget Al "No Controlling Legal Authority" Gore...he's the most saintly of them all.
Because Democrats can NEVER be corrupt. EVER.
Them's the rules.
By Any Means Necessary. It's hard to see this as anything other than a complete success for the left. It's amazing what you can accomplish when you have no principles or standards other than power.
Waiting for, "I'm glad he was found innocent", but not holding my breath.
He wasn't found innocent.
I will say he had better luck than Georgia Thompson.
@Jim: Here, here.
If you want to join the Democrats, leave your shame at the door.
has he been convicted of any crime?
This whole thing is stinks to high heaven. it smells like a political hit.
@A.W.: It was exactly that. And it underlines the corruption that rots certain corners of the DOJ.
Am I the only one who is just amazed that this took six years?
So is AlphaLiar going to come back here and issue an apology? How about HDNutHouse? Any other leftard by chance? Am I going to hear crickets?

No. The amazing thing is that the "investigation" was concluded at all and that a public announcement was then made.
I have my problems with some of DeLay's activities, but he is not a whiner and certainly has shown a lot more class than his opponents.
The wheels of justice grind slow...

Was it HDhouse or Jeremy (HD, if memory serves) that claimed the whole General Betray-Us thing was concocted by the right?
That was a blatant, outright, bold-faced mistake and he never admitted to it. What makes you think he's going to be gracious about this?
